My first post & a big Hi to everyone.
Ive been lurking for awhile reading all the posts but have never really had anything to say, but today i decided to build myself alittle painting desk, i have practically zero space for painting so usually i use my computer desk which is not a clever idea.
So anyway i was wondering what your painting area/desk looks like? , i suppose this question has been asked a million times.
Heres mine.

Looks really nice, I like the rack with all the little paint spots, especially.
I don't have any pics of my workspace, but it's basically just a big dining room table that we never use in my house, which I covered with cardboard to protect the surface. I need a lot of space because I do a lot of scratchbuilding, and all those bits and plastic sheets take up a lot of room. I only recently got my tools and materials in any sort of organized containers, but I'm glad I did.

That rack is awesome did you buy it or make it yourself?
As for my desk is just alitte desk in my dinning room next to a heating duct. The desk has a few draws where I put paints and tools. And a cabinet over head where I put boxes and junk.

Well Mine was a desk, a old computer desk.
But I found out i do more work if im on the love seat.
So i bought two cheap tables from IKEA, and some planks from Home Depot. I built the tables and then laid the Planks on the table to exten the table both lenght and width wise..
I have it up in my room, so i can model, Use the internet, and watch tv.
When i was down stairs in the main part of the house , i would spend hours , on the game systems and not painting...
Here Im focus, and I can watch tv, surf the internet while paint drys or get ideas..

Well, currently my painting desk is an abomination,I'm waiting on some bitz to arive so I have semi-finished minis every place.
I'm also working on some sceneary (an Ork fueling/ammo dump) so I have about two dozen "5 hour energy" bottles scatterd about.

I just use the desk in my room. No special setup, other than an empty pencil cup thing, a lamp, and one of those flat desk calendars that teachers usually have.

This is more or less my current setup: lots of paint pots cluttered about, my bits tray, empty soda bottles, and tons of unpainted figures layin around.

I don't have a painting area, or even a desk, I have to put up with just putting down a cutting mat somewhere and picking stuff out of my toolbox as and when I need it (my room atm is far too small for such niceties as a dedicated hobby area. Ah well
MegaDave, I like the fact that you have a box of band-aids next to your painting area, I'll take it you see safe knife handling procedures as more of a guideline lol!

Theres some very interesting painting desks/areas there, i like them, it would be nice if a company would make some kind of dedicated work station for figure/model painters, although it nice to see how people make up their own painting area.
@The Gate Keeper yeah i made it myself out of some old wood i have laying around, then painted it up with some matt black paint i had in the shed, didnt cost me a penny.
@alanedomain the paint spots are just drawing pins/thumb tacks painted so i know where all the colours belong, looks quite nice though.
@OnTheEdge this is my land speeder storm ive been painting, its only my second vehicle ive painted but i think its coming along ok i think, although i still have the crew to paint up.

Great looking model. I have to admit I am more quantity than quality when it comes to getting my armies ready for battle. (This could have a lot to do with favouring hordes like IG and Orks..)

Yep, if I don't bleed on a model it's not fit for the battlefield! Besides, it's the only way I can seem to get my blood red watered down enough...

I was actually pretty curious how you put this together as well, I saw the extra pictures and was curious if you had access to a wood shop or something for some of it, or did you take an already existing station and modify it?
I'm currently going back and forth between using my computer desk or the coffee table for my work, and am thinking of either expanding and putting another wing on my desk for dedicated work, or making a portable setup much like this, so more information would be awesome
thanks!

I made this thread some time ago about how I made the paint station.
The only tools I used was one of those cheap portable multi-function benches, a jig saw, staple gun, power drill, wood glue and some sanding paper. For materials I primarily used MDF plate and some masonite (hard floor plating) for the bottom plate.
The idea was simply to have a move-all-in-one-go solution for my painting setup since I use that table for a lot of other things.
[edit]Just found this guide on how to make one out of plastic trays and boxes. Should be a bit easier to make if you aren't into wood crafting.[/edit]

Heres a picture of my shed. It gets a bit cold in the winter. Last week I went to use my black magic wash and it had frozen. I also share the shed with a 2.5k p.a. system which is stored there inbetween gigs . It must be said it's a mess and I could do with a whole new set of paints and brushes and more space , in a warm country somewhere.
