Well, I got my Trygons yesterday and spent a few hours converting the second one into a different pose.
The work was all in the tail. With the removal of a few tail segments and a bit of heat gun bending I think that
i've managed to achive a significant amount of difference to make these monsters a little bit individual.
I'm glad it was possible because having more than one of these beasts in an army is gonna look pretty silly otherwise.
I'll probably update with paint in a few days.
Here's some pics...........(Left side is converted, Right side is built straight from instructions)
C+C welcome and appreciated, all questions answered!

Not bad.

How easy was it to convert? Lots of cutting, or are the models fairly flexible when it comes to being put into different poses?

I've fleshed out the original post a bit but yeah it was a fair bit of work.
The model's tail is monopose straight from the box.
I had to remove a few of the tail segments/armour plates with a fine saw and managed to bend the tail a little with a heat gun.

Ten points for working out how to change the pose - I too hate the mono-pose, the one flaw in anotherwise great kit.

It does look bit unbalanced though, like it's going to tip forwards? - maybe add some terrain under the tail to 'support' it?

I thought it looked like it was lunging forward: more dynamic than unbalanced.

Nice work man....
I was just looking at mine wondering how to make the midsection and the tail a bit longer.

Oustanding work! I wonder why GW does monoposed sculpts on expensive pieces like that some times. For $50, you better give me at least one other option.

Really nice work there, looks like a real faff to modify that tail and the new pose is really dynamic.

Looking good. A good dynamic pose from a static kit. Now for your third, you need to model one bursting up from the ground......!

Are you worried about balance in the Physics/gravity/toppling model syndrome sense of the word or aesthetics/narrative?
The model is really solid in the first sense and aesthetically/narratively I feel like she is lungeing though that may not come out in the pics.

I meant aesthetically. But maybe that's just because of the very small amount of terrain under its tail - which I realise isn't the final look, it's just what you added to hold the Trygon in the correct pose - with a bit more terrain also spread over the rest of the base I expect it will be fine.

Wow, I did a search looking for these and out of 11 pages worth of 100 search results, i found this one in 3 minutes.

I like the dynamic pose a ton, and I was wondering if you could maybe outline in greater detail how you did it.

Thanks.

I find it to be much bettre then the original pose intended, since the last one looked more said "I'm just going to sit here and get shot at," while the new pose says "screw this gak i'm going to kill something."

Please excuse the semi necro. If anyone has a problem, i'll take it to PM. It's not too far gone anyway and the P+M forums don't seem to date all that quickly.

Thanks for the kind words TheTrueProtoman and Nightwatch exactly why I converted and exactly my intention.

Night Lords wrote:Wow, I did a search looking for these and out of 11 pages worth of 100 search results, i found this one in 3 minutes.

Yeah, the search function can be a little ropey at times. I often try using the gallery instead. 'Trygon Conversion' only has 2 pages of images and my pics come up 3-6th.
Night Lords wrote:I was wondering if you could maybe outline in greater detail how you did it.

I'm not near the model or a camera at the moment but if it can wait til this evening i'll have a look to remember what I did and take a few detail pics.

Cheers...

Sorry MasterSlowPoke, not done too much on him. just a bit of basing, a brown overbrush and started picking out eyes and spikes.

Ok, i've just had another look at this little fella and it doesn't look too pretty up close. Bit of a rush job to get them on the table before anyone had read the rules i'll bet!

1)Looks like I made a cut with a saw between the scales of the tail in two seperate places. If I remember correctly this wasn't too hard to do and I would definately suggest making a few more cuts and doing the improvements I have listed below....
i)The thinner part towards the tail was cut once and the two bits were then re glued at jaunty angles. If I were to re-do this i'd cut between three or four scales and re join them with less of a twist between each.
ii) The fatter tail section had a cut made between the scales and some tail has been removed before the two section's were re glued. This has left one of the scales standing a bit proud from some angles. Again if I were to re-do this i'd cut between three or four scales and re join them with less tail removed between each and possibly file down any scales that are standing too proud.

2)I've packed out behind the head to allow a more forward facing position without the crest touching the carapace.

3)Filled the hollow tail section that is usually against the floor.

4)Built up the base at an angle that supports the new pose correctly.

5)I also remember spending a fair bit of time with a heat gun trying to get some of the curve out of the tail. I can't quite see where this was now that the model has paint on it.

Hope this helps a bit. The pics should make it a little clearer.
Let me know if you want any more pics or better descriptions. I'll try my best!

Sorry about dragging this one back up again but it seemed a little silly to make a whole new thread.
I've just finished a new Trygon conversion, this time it's emerging from the ground.
All three models need way more paint but the brown overbrush atleast makes these photos readable.
Hope you like them. I'll update with paint when they are all done.
Any questions, comments welcome and answered.
