Despite having been collecting and playing for the last year or so, this is my first attempt at painting anything larger than an infantry model. I'm quite pleased with how the gold parts have turned out although the harsh light i have to use to get a decent picture off my phone has made the brush work look more crappy than it does to the naked eye.

I guess this was a test to see if my army colours would transfer onto something larger, but i'm not sure if i shouldn't have done them the other way round, with the bulk of the tank being gold and the detailing being turquoise :S

Anyhoo, C&C more than welcome!

Amazing paint job in my opinion. The highlights and shading were both well done. Good job

I have to agree it looks pretty good to me. I really like the shading. Did you use a similar paint scheme on your infantry? I want to see pics of them too.

Wow, a very... almost cartoon look. I would say you probably have traditional art skills. Looks good.

Good blending skills!

Even though this is a completely different way of painting than what I do, I can certainly appreciate skill when I see it. And you sir, have it.

As an aside, how long has the tank taken you so far?

Thanks for the kind words!

@Oppenheimer: My infantry use almost the same colours but a slightly darker palette. I'll try to get some pics up.

@jabbakahut: I have zero traditional skills :( I'm actually a physicist. I do like painting things in a cartoony style with bright colours though. I should do Eldar next

@Xanthos: It's taken about 3 hours so far which is pretty speedy for me. Large flat surfaces are a hell of a lot easier to paint than the tiny details on SoB armour though.

That looks extremely good, well done. I think you have the colours the right way around. I think it would look a bit garish if the main colour was gold.

Looks really cool, but I've never really liked the colour aqua.

You did that in 3 hours? That really is something else and the shading is beatiful. I hope you post some pictures of your army, I'd like to see how you do figures.

Sign me up for the ass kissing as well. Ive always been a little overwhelmed when it comes to painting tanks, all those huge flat surfaces. I end up managing but still freaks me out a bit lol. But I have to say, you did a fantastic job on there.

I love the NMM and the violet windows! Not too keen on the aqua/turquoise though.

What colors did you use for the NMM?

For your first vehicle painting job, its really good, the shading and blending is all really nice. Plus the paints you chose really compliment each other.

I've been thinking about physics as a major, how's that industry?

@Romulus571: I used the palette they recommended in the latest issue of WD (Scorched brown, Dark flesh, Vomit brown, and skull white). I wish i'd tried out that combination before as my previous attempts at NMM have been using Bestial brown mixed with yellow and white; which looks quite dull in comparison

@Jabbakahut: PM being sent

There's not much love for turquoise in my local GW either, but i just love the contrast it makes with gold plus it's a great tie in for the small amounts of purple/pink and green that i use for the details on my SoB. TBH, Turquoise makes a great starting point for the lighter blue i work up to (50/50 turquoise/Ice blue) so hopefully, the finished tank will end up looking more like it's been shaded with turquoise rather than plastered with it.

Thanks again everyone, i'll post some more stuff soon. Uni work permitting of course :S

Love love love it! I'm dying to see your infantry. Please post some girls? I have a non-traditional color scheme, too, so I'm really curious as to how they look.

I will try to use that NMM gold for the icon-bits on my rhinos/immolators. My motivation has been evaporating due to the lack of rumors of updates to WH/SoB armies. Thanks for inspiring me to keep on painting!

Here's my take on The Living Saint. The armour was faded from scorched brown through to bubonic brown, the cloth was painted turquiose to start with and faded up to near white, and the pink fire (I'm reclaiming it for the Emperor) is just warlock purple again faded up to almost white. The cherubim aren't finished yet because they're a pain to paint now that I've pinned and glued it together :S Will get them done soon i hope.

The Seraphim's armour was base coated with bestial brown, given a heavy wash with a 50/50 mix of badab/ogryn, then faded up through to pure golden yellow and given a few white highlights. The hair was simply painted white, washed with baal and lightly drybrushed with pure white. Apologies for the slightly blurry pic here, the camera on my phone is somewhat temperamental

Wow. I love it. Stunning armor. The turquoise does really nice things when mixed with white to highlight... And that purple/pink!! Pink fire: you're takin' it back!

The armor is similar to mine, but I go about it a completely different way, ending up with a sort of aged bone/ivory. The only thing exactly the same: Badab/Ogryn mix for a wash... the combo gives a nice warmth, plus depth. Nice work!

I really like the way you've done the armour on your Canoness It really brings out the highpoints (which is hard to do goven the complexity of the sculpt).

Badab/Ogryn is the way to go; it doesn't dry nearly as dark as devlan and, as such, is much better suited for shading. The turquoise is something I'm working on; I hate the fact It's restricted to TK and Eldar at the moment :(

Beautiful painting.

I really like the gold used for the armour etc.

Not too keen on the flame motif on the cape, the rest of the painting suggests something tidier.

Keep the images coming.

That is a great paint job! the contrast between the turquiose and the gold is really good. 5*
