From this this thread here.

Oswitz agreed to bring his Orks onto Vassal and play against Dash's Dark Eldar with the condition that if he won, Dash would pay him $100. Dash asked me to write up a battle report and I was happy to do so.

Dash (obviously) knew how to run his Dark Eldar and Oswitz was actually quite good with his Orks. I was, for example, very impressed with his movement phase in turn 1 as he showed off just how his cover tactic worked.

Gwar! was the judge for this game and a variety of people including Hulksmash stopped by to watch at one point or another.

Pictures are somewhere or another. I have no idea where they'll end up, so I've labelled them all.

Ozwitz’s list:
1x big mek with 'eavy armour
6x 12 man boy squad, 1 nob with pk/bp in a trukk
2x 20 man Stormboy squad, 1 nob with pk/bp
1x 19 man Stormboy squad, 1 nob with pk/bp

The mission is Seize Ground, 4 Objectives. Deployment is Pitched Battle. Dash places the first objective.

Oswitz deploys first, Dash responds. Trees were removed because they were agreed to not be thick enough to block LoS to vehicles at the relevant height.

Dash rolls for his Wych squads and Reaver Bikes. 1 Wych squad gets +1 Strength, 1 gets Always Strike First, and 1 gets 12” assault. The bikes get 2 squads with Always Strikes Firsts and 1 squad gets +1 Attack.

Dash fails to seize and the battle begins.

Os’s purple Stormboy squad rolls a 5 for its extra movement, giving it a 17” move. The 2 Trukks on the left both go Flat Out for 18” moves. The yellow Stormboy squad loses a boy but gets a 13” move. The Trukk on the far right moves up 18”, the other trukk jumps into the gap. The red Stormboyz also lose a member, moving 13”. The Trukks in the middle move up. The Big Mek heads for cover.

The trukks that can shoot shoot Reaver Jetbikes. Dash saves them all. Os runs with the red Stormboyz, using the 5 to reorder the squad and runs the Mek into the forest. The yellow Stormboyz use their 3 inch move to shuffle around as well.

Dash moves up the Reavers next to the trukk on Oz’s far right. The Ravagers back up to the edge of the board. The other Reaver squads move to block the Trukks in the center. A Raider moves to block the left flank.

The Reaver jetbikes on the right put 2 Blasters and a Splinter Cannon into the trukk next to them and whiff. The bikes in the middle do the same thing to their respective trukks, immobilizing and stunning the one on the right with Blasters before killing it with the Splinter Cannon! A 5 on Ramshackle just drops the squad out, unhurt. Amazingly, the exact same thing happens on the left.

The Raider drops a DL into the trukk it’s blocking, knocking off the Big Shoota. A DL from the Raider on the far right immobilizes it, and the DL and blaster from the warriors inside kill it. Ramshackle blows up the Trukk 6”, getting 8 Stormboyz under the blast. 1 Stormboy and 4 Trukk Boyz die. The Trukk boyz pass their pinning test.

The Raider on the far right of the line fires at the surviving Trukk on the left, killing it. It also explodes with a 3” radius. 4 Trukk Boyz die, and the squad passes its pinning test.

The Warriors inside the Raider fire at the red Stormboyz but do nothing. Dash shoots the next Raider and squad at the red squad, killing 1. The walking warriors and the rest of the Raider line shoot the purple Stormboyz, killing 2.

The Wych Raiders all shoot at the ex-Trukk mob on the left, killing 2.

The Ravager on the far right fires 3 Dissies at the yellow Stormboy mob. 7 die. The Ravager in the middle shoots at the teal Trukk boy squad. 5 die. The Ravager on the left shoots at the other squad near its wrecked Trukk. All of them die but the Nob.

The teal squad falls back 9”.

The Reavers on the right assault the trukk they shot earlier. They do nothing. The Reavers in the middle block Os with their 6” assault move.

Turn 2
The squad that was falling back regroups and jumps into the forest.

The Trukk on the right tries to get away but immobilizes itself in the forest. The yellow Stormboy squad moves 18”. The last mobile trukk left heads through the forest towards the Jetbikes and drops off its squad. The boyz in the middle shuffle around in front of the blocking Reavers and get ready for an assault. The red Stormboyz lose another member and head into the middle of the board. The trukk on the right drops off its boyz as well, who get ready to assault the Reavers. On the left, the purple Trukk Boyz head up towards the Raider, and the Stormboyz (with the roll of a 6 for extra movement) hop over the Raider and set up for a multicharge on the Raider line.

Orks fire off pistols all over the board, but do nothing.
The teal squad runs towards the Big Mek.
The immobilized Trukk fires at the Ravager on the right to no effect. The mobile trukk shoots the green reavers but does nothing.

The purple Trukk boy squad charges the Raider near it. The purple Stormboyz charge the 2 Raiders on the right of the line and the slogging Warrior squad. The other Trukk boy squads assault the Reaver jetbikes, with the Red Stormboyz joining in on the green Reavers. The yellow Stormboyz attack the Ravager.

The purple Trukk Boyz immobilize the Raider near them. The warriors whiff against the purple Stormboyz, who kill the Warriors, wreck the Raider on the far right, and explode the one in the middle with a 4” radius (which gets all the Stormboyz and 2 from the wrecked Raider). 2 Warriors from inside the Raider and 5 Stormboyz die.

The teal Reavers do nothing to the squads that they’re fighting and get wiped. The green Reavers swing against the Trukk boyz and kill one. They get wiped in return. The Trukk Boyz head for the objective and the Stormboyz shuffle into the middle of the field. The red Reavers also whiff and get swept. The Trukk Boyz head for the objective near them.

The yellow Stormboyz swing on the Ravager and blow it up. The resulting explosion hits all the Stormboyz, killing 4. They make their morale check.

Dash moves the 3 living Warrior Raiders turboboost 24” straight forward.

The “Always Strike First” Wyches head down and right before hopping out below the Raider near the black Trukk Boy squad. The Haemy jumps out near the purple Stormboyz. The “12” Assault” Wyches go straight forward and hop out. The “+1 Strength” Wych Raider moves a bit forward but the Wyches stay embarked.

The Ravagers shuffle left a bit.

The walking Haemy drops a flame template on the purple Stormboyz, killing 3. The Haemy inside the “+1 S” Raider does the same, killing 4. The Warriors from the exploded Raider do nothing, but the Wyches kill 2 with pistols and blasters. Raiders shooting kill 2, leaving just the Nob standing. Finally, the immobilized Raider DLs him down.

The Ravager on the right fires at the green Trukk boyz and kills 4. The other Ravager fires into the red Stormboyz and kills 6.

The 12” Assault Wyches charge the purple Trukk boyz, killing 4 and putting a wound on the Nob. The Orks kill 2 Wyches, then fail their morale check, try the bosspole, kill an Ork, and still fail. They get swept and the Wyches head for the Raider.

The Always First Wyches charge the black trukk boyz, kill 5 and wound the Nob. The Orks whiff and get swept. The Wyches jump into the forest.

Turn 3
Os tries to back his trukk up and immobilizes it. The squad in the bottom right heads towards the middle of the board.

The Big Mek heads for the left edge of the forest, but stays inside it.

The yellow Stormboyz roll a 5 for extra movement and head for the nearest Ravager. The red ones go slower (a 4) and hop across the forest towards the other Ravager and the Raider.

The green Trukk boy squad jumps into the forest but stays near the objective.

The lone Nob heads down behind the trukk wreckage.

The Trukk boyz on the bottom right run into the forest, also hiding. The lone Nob runs into the forest.

The Red Stormboyz charge the Ravager on the left, only shaking it. The yellow Stormboyz try for the other Ravager and barely make it. They only Stun, Immobilize, and take a weapon off.

Dash turboboosts 3 Warrior Raiders and the 12” Assault and +1 S Wych Raiders onto the top left objective. The Wyches in the forest, the Warriors in the top left, and slogging Haemy head for the Red Stormboyz.

Dash flames the red Stormboyz with the Haemy, killing 4. The Wyches run 5, making it very nicely into assault range. The Warriors kill 1.

The Haemy and Wyches assault the Stormboyz. They wipe the squad. The Wyches move up to shield the Ravager.

Turn 4
Oz moves the lone Nob out of the forest to take on the nearest Raider. The green Trukk boyz head deeper into the forest, as do the brown ones. The Big Mek moves to the edge of cover and joins the Nob. The yellow Stormboyz get an extra 3” and head over the forest for Dash’s Turboboosting Trailer Park

The Big Mek and Nob both shoot at the Raider and do nothing. The immobilized Trukks and the teal squad shoot at the Raider right over the objective but bounce off of its speed.

The Nob and Big Mek assault the Raider they shot and take off the DL. The yellow Stormboyz charge 2 Raiders, shaking one before the Nob rips it apart (1” radius). 1 Warrior dies and the squad gets pinned.

Dash moves the Wyches down into the forest. A Warrior and Wych Raider head for the top right objective and drop off the +1 S Wyches. The 12” Assault Wyches head for the bottom left objective and pile out. The Raider on the top left objective stays still.

The Haemy flames the yellow Stormboyz and kills none. The Raider that stayed still drops a DL into the Trukk and the squad inside helps out by taking off the Big Shoota. The Wyches in the top middle run 4” towards the Stormboyz.

The Warriors in the bottom left pour fire into the Big Mek and Nob and vaporize them. The 12” Assault Wych Raider kills the weaponless trukk, which explodes due to Ramshackle but kilss nothing. The Warrior Raider and the +1 S Wych Raider hit the Trukk on the far right with 2 DLs and kill it.

The Ravager on the right drops 2 Dissie shots on the brown mob and kills 7. The Ravager on the left fires its 3 shots at the yellow Stormboyz and kills 4 of them (amazingly without killing any of his own stuff). The immobilized Raider kills another. The Wyches fire at them and take the squad down to just the wounded Nob, who fails his leadership and runs for the edge of the board.

The 12” Assault Wyches charge the teal Boyz and kill everything but the Nob, who gets run down. They head into the forest.

The +1 S Wyches charge the green trukk boyz and do the same thing.

At this point, Ozwitz concedes.

Result: Victory, DashofPepper.

You can upload the pictures to your gallery if you like, then use the auto-link feature there to copy/paste the pictures to this battle report.

Also...small note to make: It wasn't meant to be my DE against his orks, it was trying to prove that his ork list was weak against anything well-played. He didn't want to play against my orks, so DE was next on the line.

Dash: Looks like a solid win. Unfortunately for Os, his trukks were not a match for better DE dakka, and when the boyz got caught without a ride, most were ripped apart. And that Big Mek without a KFF really could of helped if it had a KFF to go along with at least one of his flanking trukk squads. Hell, less stormboys and maybe two KFF meks could of made this much better in terms of survivability for those Trukks (and Orks).

But funny thing, the Orks were out-orked by the Dark Elves who were fielded in much smaller sized squads, but with more versatility and units. The orks were grinded by the Warriors and finished off by the Wyches in brutal fashion.

I gotta say, looks like the dice were not on Oz's side. He immobilized what, 3 trukks on DT? That's just bad luck, and of course trukk boyz are gak when they lose their ride before they hit assault distance.

That said, bad luck alone cannot be blamed for a loss, certainly not in this case.

He didn't have reinforced rams.

There was a lot about his list I didn't agree with, which was the whole point of showing up on Vassal in the first place; he wasn't accepting criticism that his list wasn't uber awesome, so I was trying to get him in person to do it.

The point allocation could of gone to giving this list more flexibility. But again, that basically proves your point.

Well done my young pupil! It looks like you have gotten the hang of those fickle Dark Eldar, I was a little skeptical of the 2 Heamons instead of a Archon/Dracon. But knowing that you were playing orks makes it a good choice to take the templates and the bikes.

The only thing I can add is MOAR SLAVE GIRLIES!!

Clthomps, that's not a standard list.

I had to drop my 1850 down to 1750, so I kicked out the Archon/Incubi from my 1850 and beefed up the missing points with some bikes.

It was a little frustrating - this is an anti-MEQ list. I disembarked his army on turn1, and was then left sitting there popping orks one at a time with dark lances.

Is this DE list one you would take against anyone? Or was it tailored to fight the ork list? I've never played DE so I have no idea. It's definitely min/maxed to the extreme.

I would still like to see you pull something like this with Tau... especially a list not tailored to fight orks (i.e. not all flamers).

This is my take all comers 1850 list that got modified on the spot to be 1750.

Yes, it is min-maxed. That's the effectiveness of a raider list. I'd only take one warrior instead of five if I could - its just for the dark lance.

@Tides - That list is pretty standard, if he was taloiring it to beat orks he would have taken the darklances of the warrior squads and changed them to Splinter cannons. Also he most likely would have mounted 3 Heamons with destructors on bikes.

It's nasty, I'll give you that. These are a level (style?) of list that I've never touched before... and I don't think I'd like to.

It proves the point in a sense... but it's beating an extreme list with an even more extreme one... not my cup of tea...

That's not an extreme list. Its literally the only thing in the entire codex that works.

And I didn't WANT to play my DE against him. I wanted to bring my well balanced orks. =p They would have romperstomped his orks...as it was, he gave my DE a good showing because I didn't move raiders or use my mobility wisely. I thought it was going to be a turkey shoot and got punished for it. Cost me two raiders and a ravager.

Dash is right; DE only have like 1 feasible list lol. And its the same no matter what... and it gets stomped normally by orcs (as he said, they pop transports and then run around trying to kill 2-3 orcs a turn) that are a good list and played well; which that orc list was neither.

Well done tho, good game!

The DE list was clearly a tournament level list hard as nails while the ork list was far from optimal. No rams on the trukks?! Masses of stormboyz?!

Vassal is also a tricky one for LOS. It doesn't appear that there was any terrain on the table that block LOS at all.

The bunkers were LOS blocking, and the left and right forests had been intended to block line of sight because there were populated so thickly. Ultimately, when you populate a forest that thickly you have trouble putting models in there, and since he was claiming the two units giving cover to each other strategy, it was irrelevant to him, so we took the trees away to clear any confusion.

My intent was that my vehicles would have no cover, and his vehicles would all get cover (from his stormies behind, stormies in front tactic). It worked out that way for the most part, although he did end up having to separate out his stormboyz from the trukks.

Asolutely not an optimal list olympia - have you read the thread this is related to? The whole purpose of this game was that Os was dismissive of all criticism to his list (that one) that it stomped on land raiders and monoliths alike, dark eldar ran in terror, and everyone else was easy pickings. There was a lot of reasonable advice, criticism and tweaks that were offered and scoffed at.

That is *not* the list...nor even the army I'd want to take to play against his orks. My DE list is a mechanized MEQ destroyer - a glass cannon. Half the game consisted of "Uh...one of your boys takes a cover save from a dark lance" followed by "Alright, one more cover save from the next raider's dark lance" followed by "woohoo! One wound from a splinter rifle, one more dark lance hit - two cover saves" Against MEQs and terminators, that's fun. 6 point boys...not so much. If I had to build an army to fight his, I probably would have taken a wych cult. 6 troop choices of close combat meanies who will strike first, more than likely get the assault because they're fleet, and laugh off powerklaws with all the 4+ invulnerable saves.

And like I said....I would have preferred to bring my orks. My standard 1850 ork list, posted for all to see over on the army list section, nothing custom built to this.
