I'm tackling an entirely different kind of creature... the Great Devourer of the Void! This is the first thing I have ever scratchbuilt, so I am fairly proud of it. I painted it to match my ground-pounding tyranid force, so that they will match during campaigns.

So without further ado, the fruit of my labor: My first BFG Hiveship

Looks great! I'm not so sure about the tips of its tentacles, but apart from that, awesome work.

This is great, I can't wait to see more.
I've seen something similar before, probably on the tyranid hive, where he used regular infantry guns (devourers if I remember) with some other tiny bits to make the fighters, and they looked pretty good.

Woah. Threatening, yet very Battlefield Gothic. Very very cool.

"If you really want to know what it was like, to fight in the air in the great War, then go up to someone you have never met and who has never done you the slightest harm and pour a two-gallon tin of petrol over them. Then apply a match, and when they are nicely ablaze, push them from a fifteenth-floor window after first perhaps shooting them a few times in the back with a revolver. And be aware as you are doing these things that ten seconds later someone else will quite probably do them to you. This will exactly reproduce... the substance of First World War aerial combat and will cost your country nothing. It will also avoid the necessity of ten million other people to die in order for you to enjoy it."

Yes, the tentacles were inspired by Halo's 'The Flood'.

Thanks for the comments, I'll be adding my cruisers and escorts as I get them painted.

I like it alot better than the GW ones, this thing looks like it might actually rip a cruiser apart!

Let's see... it was made with 3 carnifex carapaces, 2 deathspitters, 1 venom cannon, 2 flesh hooks (the long kind), 12AWG wire, 2 part epoxy putty (the cheap hardware store kind that dries in 5 min and costs only 3 bucks per tube), two spinefists and the base. A few extra gubbins here and there just spiced it up a bit, like the adrenal sac.

@sasori: yes.... my hive fleet must grow!

@megadave: I love that part of the BFG rules... where if both "massive claws" make successful attacks, it latches on like a pitbull and disgorges boarders into the stricken target... that is just freaking cool imagery!

I've started work on a shoal of Kraken. They're supposed to be escorts, so I kept them small and simple:

Scale? Pffft! That is entirely too technical for me. I just throw together things that look cool.

Basically: small flight stands are for escorts and cruisers of 2 spores and below. Large flight stands are for hive ships and for cruisers with 3 spores or more. That is how most fleets are designed, anyway.

I make the Hive ships from 3 carnifex carapaces. Cruisers are made with one. Krakens are built from a single deathspitter, a warrior head, flesh hooks, and spinefists. Vanguard drones are made from a scythe-tail piece, a hormagaunts' scything talon, and a devourer. Alternatively, I use all scything talons with the devourer, or one of those extended carapace pieces from the carnifex kit, but I always try to make the drones with 3 "wings" or "fins", two horizontal and one vertical.
