Hi all! Long time no see!

I started working on my original Cyber-Daemon plog 6-7 months ago and since then have gotten married, graduated from post education and moved across the country. During that time a pitifully small amount of work was completed on my Daemon army but I did have a lot of time to think about the army concept, what inspired me in the first place and where I wanted to take this army. So after all this time I've started working on my Daemons again with fervor. A lot of how I want the models to look and feel changed enough that I felt like it warranted a new plog; I also didn't want the new concept "tainted" with the old one Some notes before we get to the actual shots:

1. As I stated in my first plog, a not-insignificant amount of inspiration was taken from Catpeeler's Daemon plog linked below. A great big thanks goes to him--Without his plog I don't think I ever would've come up with a way to unify a group of cross-god Daemons that looked aesthetically pleasing.

2. I make no promises whatsoever regarding updates. I've got a lot of ideas for what units I'd like to add next but unfortunately they all require a fair amount of molding and casting for random bits. I'll of course take as many photos as I can but I want there to be realistic expectations.

3. I take criticism well--Any and all thoughts/comments are much appreciated.

4. In case you're not interested in looking through my old plog the basic idea is that this is a band of blind cyber daemons who work the soul forges in the warp. All of the models have their eyes dremeled out and the sockets widened. Everything will be based on the new plastic Bloodletter--It's my second favorite GW model after the new plastic Horrors.

My comments on these Fiends follow all the shots.

So without further ado here we go:

WIP shots of my Fiends:

All 18 of them together:

The first 9 of them:

The second 9 of them:

Fiend 1:

Fiend 2:

Fiend 3:

If you look at my old plog you can see the evolution of my Fiends. I like the idea of them being these very fast spider-like monsters snaring people with their scourge whips and then stabbing them to death with their pointy legs. I can totally visualize them basically mounting tanks and poking holes in them too--Enough so that I've considered doing a diorama shot of one of my Fiends stabbing into a dreadnaught. At some point maybe.

I like the way that these turned out. The models feel very balanced visually which was something lacking in the others. My only real qualm with them is that they sit a bit big on the bases--It will probably make them hard to transport safely but I'll figure something out.

Comments?

~~

For my next unit I'm going to do either Plaguebearers or Horrors. I haven't decided which yet and as I said there will be a fair bit of casting random bits that goes into either of them so progress will be slow. Mold making materials don't come cheap and I'm trying to maximize the useage of each mold I make.

I've decided to go ahead and completely redo my Bloodcrushers also. New plan is to use the Necron Destroyer as a base but to put 6 mechanized legs into the vents. Inspiration found in the "Your best conversion model" thread and some other stuff from CMON. WIP shots to come after I get a few troop units together

Unfortunately my current plan is to finish all the models before I start painting.

Right now I'm agonizing over doing Plaguebearers or Horrors. I'm working on limited funds for the army so I'm hesitant to pick wrong and then be stuck for a month or two.

Anyone want to offer some pro-tips that'll help me pick?

Hmmmm..... Horrors or Plaguebearers?

Here is my pro-tip that will very easily help you decided which to pick.

PICK PLAGUEBEARERS!!!!!

Did that help?

Well due to what current boxes of sprues I have available to me and what different pieces I can cast I've decided to do Plaguebearers next. I've got to go clean out two rooms of the house to make room for visiting friends but after that I've got about 24 hours to get all the pieces put together and get a mold made.

I'll post update pictures when I can. Should hopefully get a finished Plaguebearer up tomorrow.

Update:

Bits mold is poured and currently curing. I should have some mockups of some Plaguebearers done tomorrow night.

Update Two:

A combination of using 2 dollar Krylon Ultra Flat Black, spray painting in Georgia during the mid-day summer heat and humidity and failing to give the bases a hot-water-and-soap bath results in two days of lost work as I soak the bases in Simple Green, scrub them clean, wash them with soap and then lay them out to dry to be base coated tomorrow.

On the upside I jury-rigged a setup so I can base coat my bases inside where it's a cool 68 degrees and I bought some P3 Black Primer for 8 bucks--With luck I'll have the bases base coated tomorrow.

I also have shots of a 95% finished Flamer and Plaguebearer that I'll get up tomorrow night.

I've decided that I'd like to paint one of my Fiends as motivation to finish the rest of the army. Current plan is for the flesh part to look exactly like the Bloodletters in the studio GW army (the ones with the Bleached Bone painted bumps on the skin) and the metal parts to be blackened iron. I'm a horrible painter but... It's got to get done

Anyways, if anyone has any pro tips for the painting please pass them on.

Thanks again for checking out my plog!

Ugh, sorry it took so long for an update. Been working on these models for a week now but work has been a real pain--12-14 hour days and stuff to do on the weekends. Anyways, here's shots of one of my Flamers. The others just need the cabling that this one has. This is a pre-green stuff shot so please excuse the rough patches--It'll all get smoothed out no problem.

I have no real complaints about how the model turned out other than it being a bit lopsided. Nothing serious though. Originally I wanted them with Chaos Raptor jump packs but after I swapped head designs there was no way to fit a Bloodletter head and a jump pack on the same model haha. I like this design even better. A jump pack is much more mechanical compared to the awesomesauce that is warp technology this bad boy has hooked into his body! I grin maniacally thinking about a squad of these guys disappearing and reappearing in bright flashes of light and then absolutely toasting some Spehz Mureens.

Anyways, comments and critiques much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Any more comments/suggestions from anyone regarding the Flamer? I'd love to get feedback before I finish the rest of the squad and start with the green stuff.

I know it's difficult to see but the cables coming out of the backpack look really fluid to me. They look about right-sized in real life.

Anyways, heading to the pool for a bit and then back to modelling

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Update:

Decided to pull off the secondary power cord that was getting plugged into the Flamer's bodies. I liked the symmetry of it but they were kind of superfluous. The power pack is fused to his back--Why would he need extraneous cords that big running into random body parts? The gun makes sense to me.

So as far as I'm concerned these are ready to be green stuffed. That's probably going to be tomorrow night's project because I'm exhausted from a long day.

Looking for comments/suggestions--Especially if you've got something to say about how I should paint them Thanks in advance!

Update time:

I finished all the green stuff work on the Flamers. Here they are!

I started working on my Bloodthirster/Skarbrand model. I clipped off the weapons and magnetized them with rare earth magnets so that he could be more easily transported. Plus if I want to come up with some other arm designs to make, for instance, a Fateweaver... It'll just take a bit of work I've still got a lot of cabling and other detail I want to add to him but I just wanted to show the direction I'm moving in. Anyways, here are the WIP shots of him:

And finally here are the shots of my Plaguebearer. I decided to go with the straight-up Necron warrior head to help differentiate them. I plan on doing some where it's the Necron face with the back part of the head of a Bloodletter. The idea is that these are some sort of experiments into the fusion of Daemons and machines.

Still looking for comments/critiques and any sort of suggestions I can get--Especially for the painting of them. In any case, thanks in advance and I hope you enjoy!

So do you think they would look better with more Bloodletter bits? Or that they have to have Bloodletter heads? What about Necron faces with the back of the Bloodletter heads?

And thanks for the feedback!

These are by WaaaaghLord and they rock.

I think smoothing your Necrons like this would help get away from them 'looking to much like a necron with chainsaw arms'.

Loving all your other daemons, especially the fiends.

Did you guys know Canada has a friggin desert?

I suggest some flesh on the legs, that might help take out a bit of its necron-ness and also make the legs look a bit stronger as it seems a bit top heavy imo. Also, kickass plog!

No promises for tonight but I definitely should be able to get some more kitbashed together over the next two days. I see what you're saying about the weediness and it makes sense. I'll get some shots up of pre-green stuff ones and get feedback.

I was going to suggest switching the necron upper body for like, a bloodletters and sculpt it to look like the flesh bits are 'merging' with the mechanical bits. I would cut the bottom jaw off of the necron heads to make them look less necron and more just skulls but otherwise I like the look.

Update time!

Here are new shots of my almost-finished Bloodthirster. I need to finish his horns (the ligature is in place but I'm not sure how I want to do them) and then do some last minute tidying up of all the green stuff. There's also a bit more cabling that I'd like to finish--I've already ruined a bit of green stuff work that I had to redo because I kept working instead of letting it all dry. I'd guestimate another day or two before he's finished up.

Both arms are detachable as you can see previously--This way I can swap out weapons etc and turn him into a Lord of Change if I like Also will make him ten times easier to transport.

Here are the WIP shots of my 3x Nurgle Princes and 3x Tzeentch Princes. I decided to use the same base model for them so they'd be uniform. The Nurgle ones will get some wicked power claw type weapons and maybe a scourge whip like my Bloodthirster. I'll also give them backpacks like my Flamers--I imagine my Daemons as teleporting more than flying The Tzeentch ones will get two or three large guns. I'm still undecided on how I want to do the heads. I'm thinking of making like a metal mask that covers their forehead, nose and eyes with a flat plate. I'm just unsure what's going to look awesome.

Now, I have two requests for everyone reading: One, I'd obviously love any comments/criticisms you've got. Two, I'm not sure how I'm going to make the legs look like flesh OR to armor them up. I don't really want them to be cloth. At all. So the choice is to sculpt and bits them so that they look like flesh or to add a lot of armor and then paint what shows through as flesh. I'm looking for any sort of tips or (hopefully) a guide that explains a process similar.

Thanks in advance!

Excellent stuff. Really nice bloodthirster, love the scourge-whip, although that rear shot almost got a double-take. Like the idea of the masks, my suggestion would be armour and cabling on the legs, but that would be because I can't sculpt well

WIP shots of my Daemon Princes. I need feedback on one specific area:

The butt seam of his pants. I'm planning on putting some sort of mechanical loin cloth on the front of each of the Princes and making the legs look like they're flesh via green stuff. Should I carve out the seam? Put some sort of armor across his backside? What?

Kind of stuck until I can figure that out. Anyways, here are the shots:

Wow! Unlike any daemon army I have ever seen before now...

Certainly, Catpeeler had an idea, but yours is a different spin with your modelling choices.

Try for some mroe variation in your model choices.

Also, in the USA, can you order bits? Otherwise this loks to be a very expensive conversion job.

It was $40 US for all 6 of the Daemon Princes. Don't worry, once I'm done with the green stuff, the heads and the weapon arms they'll all look radically unique.
