So I bought a pack of Necrons on a whim the other day cause I had one of those stupid creative thoughts.

I wondered if you could get Necrons to look like Terminators.

This is the result, I dont like it too much...

I straightened all the limbs (which was a task unto itself) and got rid of the green rod to shorten the gun.

Painting wise I:
Mithril Silver
50/50 Badab/Devan Mud
3:1 Mithril:White highlight
gakload of Gloss Varnish

Originally I thought, chrome paint! But the guys at my local GW said it would screw up my model. Is that true?

Anyway, C&C welcome/needed

Interesting, must have been a pain to make them so straight.

cause their metal is way too thick. Without all the Arnie meat, terminators are pretty thin

I have two problems with this. 1. It looks too static and 2. it's eyes aren't red.

Nothing currently, got out of the hobby, maybe getting back in?

Heres a group shot. They're WIP. But as you can see some are on the move! Didnt want them too dynamic though... as they are terminators after all.

The Red eyes are real hard to pull off. The shadow from their brow just covers the whole thing. I could mess with green stuff... but im lazy

Well you've certainly done a good job straightening the limbs, but I just don't get a "terminator" feel about it. They're both robotic skeletons, sure, but beyond that there's not a massive amount of similarity between necrons and terminators. I think the torso is my main issue with it - that and blank eyes.

Meh, I think it wouldn't be too difficult. Little dab of a washed out orange and a small dot of red in the center, to give it that glowing affect.

Yeah, all i could do with the body is shave the emblem off. Maybe if I do an army of t-600s. Ya know the ones that are sort of human like but failed. Get some IG parts and flesh em up? I dunno. Maybe it was a waste of $50 after all...

@ Bloody God I did exactly that on the finished one. When the light source is coming from the top (which it always is) You cant see the eyes. They're too embedded into the skull and covered by the brow.

That stinks. Not that you'll put anymore money into it probably, but LED's for the win.

Do they look like terminators? No, and short of doing LEDs I don't think you're going to capture that vibe. The only other thing I can think of is to get some of those small seed beads (or the similar bead things without the holes in them used for craft stuff) and try gluing them in.

Do they look very nice for necrons and a good army? Yes.

The pose you've captured with the model in the centre of your picture is excellent! I'm not a necron collector but if I was i'd definately give that a go in order to give the otherwise standard pose a bit of a shake up! Nice work!

Very nice, might give more of a Terminator feel if you have them walking across a base of skulls. Maybe do something with the eyes.

Hey - not sure it they're very terminatorish - it seems to be that they need more detail, and the head is too long.

However, they look amazing anyway. The straightened limbs make them look a lot more elegant and scary...

You need more and less detail.

Ithink your posing is excellent. If you do collect necrons PLEASE do them this way... the other one's look like they are squatting to take a metal dump.

The indented parts on the chest....Extend them more toward the center of the chest. Then use green stuff to fill in the indented design-thingy in the middle of the ches.

If you are going straight t-600 then just fill in the center indentation. That'll get rid of the "necronish" feel.

BTW, great job. don't give up. they aren't 100% but they are damn nice.

I have to agree that the eyes need that bright red look because that was the main detail of the movie terminators. Making them standing straight must have taken forever. Other than the eyes I like them.

Part of what makes Terminators, well... Terminators, is the skeletal grin and red demon eyes of the head.

Love 'em. I agree with Breotan and ender502 that there are some differences inherent between the necrons and terminators that are difficult to eliminate, but you've done a bang up job. I wasn't able to straighten the limbs of my 'crons without them looking... puppettish. Care to post how you did it?

The rarefied atmosphere

You can get skull bases from places like microarts etc. That would be cool. I also think making the eyes red would be badass. I also recall that in T2 the terminator's plasma guns (in the 40 watt range...) fire purple plasma. I know a lot of people replace the green rods with other colours. There must be a purple one out there or failing that you can use the pale blue (light gathering rod online and in person are very different) and use the purple wash. That might help with the theme a bit.

Keep us updated, it looks cool. and seeing a different pose on necrons is refreshing.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

One of the first 40k games I ever witnessed (before I played) I initially mistook for a minis game about the resistance vs the machines in the Terminator setting. I didn't realize at the time that it was Imperial Guard vs Necrons. That inital feel has always stuck with me, and I like the way you did it. I thought that doing some Necron soldiers out of Imperial guardsman with some of their bits replaced by Necron bits would be cool. (As though they were Necrons wearing people suits, and some of their people suits have been burned/cut/shot off.)

I think that one of the biggest differences between the Necron build and the Terminator build is that terminators have more humanlike skulls. I think that the 'grinning' appearance of the human skull is one of the things that makes terminators so frightening. I don't know how much help that would be, but there you are.

And just so its said, I really like these models. The upright positioning is great, and although they do look a touch robotic, or puppetlike, that's okay. So did the terminators in the movies.

The only thing that they are missing is really just a small touch. Chrome. James Cameron Terminators are really shiney and chrome looking. I think if you either used those powders Ive seen people use to polish the paint, OR use actual chrome paint, they probably will look just like what your going for. That and piercing red eyes.

Nice job on the rest of them though.

I think one of the things that make them still look like necrons is the bulky limbs. Rather than looking like skeletons they look like bulked out skeletons. So there could be some milage in thinning down the arms and legs a bit. The distinct necron heads also distract from the terminator feel also, but the only option there would be swapping them for actual skeleton skulls. The poses however are miles better than the standard necron straddling an invisible chair look.

I love em!! I had thought about converting flayed one's as T600 infiltrators, but this takes that idea further. I may have to borrow/steal your idea and make my whole Necron army as a Terminator invasion force.

Thanks for all your advice guys

Although they didnt turn out exactly like I wanted. They still make a decent looking necron force.

If any of you are interested I could write up a tutorial on how to straighten those legs with minimal pain.

Let me know

Cheers
