Hi guys.

This isnt any Heretical Threadromancy, the Helskans have been in transit for the last 6 months as i moved from Middlesbrough to the Cambridge, started 2 new jobs and got married.

I did fit in some modelling and painting in that time, but managed to lose the camera cable so i've been content merely observing everyone else making awesome progress on their logs.

This is gonna be an update in several parts, starting with some new additions to the Rangers. First up is my version of Sly Marbo, represented by an elite special forces soldier.

The gun is a combination of a hellpistol and a bolt pistol, and is due to have the barrel drilled out in the near future. Demo Charge is made from the barrels of 3 grenade launchers stuck together, with a handle from a tank sprue and a timer made from a cadian command squad re-breather. The night vision goggles were created from a pair of binoculars.

Next up is 12 new hardened veterans with shotguns, heavy flamer and carapace armour. Viewed up close the green stuff on the carapace looks really rough... dammit... These guys will join my 3x 6 man vet squads who suddenly fond themselves illegal in the new codex.

More updates tomorrow.

Apologies for the poor lighting on the shots. Took them late at night and the flash was playing up.

Enjoy.

Glad you guys liked them, if i remember tonight i'll FINALLY do a little tutorial on making them, but they are as simple as they look.

Now i'm just glad no-ones noticed Marbos wonky gun barrell.... yet

Double post... but its an update so it doesnt count

First up, PIP on my basilisk. Still needs washing and weathering though but wanted to show that some progress has been made on it.

Next up, my demolisher. I have a feeling i got the idea for this back when guard tanks could have emergency crew exits, thought it would be cool if my crew were steel legion. Then i saw the lascannon gunners and thought it would be cool to have exposed sponsons. Not practical though, wouldnt like to be one of the gunners!

And a close up of the sponson.

Two new melta vets for my vet command squad. Still need carapace armour sculpting on. Decided to add green stuff straps for the rebreathers after the tech-adepts on Helska told me they'd lost the STC's for vacuum attaching them

Finally my master of artillery. Didnt like the idea of an attached artillery commander, much preffered the idea of a Ranger with a vox pack calling in fire support with nothing but a keen eye and a map. He has a green stuffed mic and headset too. Oh and a Catachan vox caster as its much better than the cadian one.

Might base and undercoat some of them tonight. Note the "might" there.

What time is it? Why it's update o'clock....

took these photo's at the same time as the others..

first up is an army shot of whats finished so far, if somewhat far away and blurry.

close up of my old drop trooper section, 1 command hq, 2 spec weapon squads and 3 hardened vet squads.

troop section, 1 platoon hq, 3 infantry squads, 1 remnants, 3 heavy weapon squads and 1 rough rider squad.

armoured fist, 3 squads of stormtroopers, 3 chimeras and a demolisher.

Ok. Now for WIP. My old army was invalidated in bits by the new codex, and i wanted to move some heavy weapon teams into more infantry squads. Plus all my sergeants needed laspistols and ccw's. So heres part of the reorganisation.

New elites, got all my vets upto 10 but missing 8 guys from a new squad at back, and a new commander who's done but AWOL from photo.

New troop section, with 2 platoons each of 1 hq and 3 squads. In background you can also see my valkyrie.

New stormtrooper section, with a new command hq, wip basilisk and again, my valkyrie.

So as part of my reorganisation i have also decided to repaint the skin of all my infantry, tidy up some bits and pieces, paint all the bases and also make the missing models. Should keep me busy for a while.

Hopefully update tomorrow with repaint of hardened vet squads.

Thanks guys.

Model collector, sponsons were made with the botom half of a regular sponson. I cut up some of the plastic from a blister (as i didnt have plastic card when i made it 4/5 years ago) for the rest of the frame. The heavy flamer is from a sentinal, the pintle i think was from an old vehicle storm-bolter. The gunner is a steel legion lascannon crew member.

Was suprisingly easy to put together, but the gun kept snapping off the pintle as its a really thin join.. till i coated it in LOADS of super glue.

Hopefully another update tonight.

I've been working on these guys the last week, actually painting the bases, repainting the skin, drilling the stormbolter barrels and general tidying up. I'm a lot happier with these guys now painting wise. Currently 3 squads of 6 men, need to paint up the remainders for each squad.

This is my newly updated commander, who will be used as Col Stracken.... havent thought of a cool Helskan name for him yet tho... His gun does look a little messy at the back, think thats more to do with the lighting tho, cant really see it so much with natural light.

FINALLY, as a little treat, a repaint in progress of my World Eaters Chaos Lord... yes size does matter, and yes Khorne does give his subjects mighty strength to wield such axes...

still lots to do with him, including painting the base.

Enjoy guys, hopefully more in a few days.

Helskans on pause while i make some more progress on my Adeptus Arbites.

First up is a basic shotgun arbite, converted from the metal space marine scout with the star trek visor. Luckily i had a load of the old arbites that i could chop up to use the heads.

Next is my Arbites Proctor, armed with a shotgun, on a temporary base. Gonna run him in 40k as an inq lord so i can use the rest of the squad as his retinue. Made from Sgt Telion. Decided to add stocks to both shotguns made from kroot rifles so they can deliver the emperors justice in hand to hand too.

Finally 2 shots of my Arbites patrol so far, including the original guy. Hoping to have the Proctor, 3 Arbites with shotguns and 3 with power mauls and suppression shields. Hopefully get them a nice converted repressor to ride in and probably a 5 man back up squad too.

Would also love to add a cyber mastiff or 2 and a handler. And maybe a Chastener. And hopefully stop there.

Very nice Arbite conversions, Brilliant idea to use Telion as the base for the proctor. Not quite that keen on the axe on the world eater, its not about the size, I think its the focal point of that model and should be suitably shiney-kill-bangbang-deathdeath (more detail in other words). Just my two cents.

Two more Arbites with Shotguns. Nothing special done to them. Models are the old metal space marine scouts with shotguns, really love the model on the left, has a real presence about him and is really weighed down with shotgun shells.

Two more Arbites with Power Mauls and Supression Shields. Shields are made from trimmed down chaos warrior shields with the missing bits greenstuffed in.

Finally a group shot of my finished patrol, 1 proctor, 3 with shotguns and 3 with mauls and shields.

Now need to get them based, greenstuff handles for the shields and then paint them. Hoping to do a 5 man support squad to go with them next.

Model Collector, axe is due to be re-painted soonish.

Love the Arbites conversions. When I built an Arbite army 5-6 years ago, I used a ton of SM scouts - they're a great base model for converting Arbites. Also - I appreciate the use of the OOP Power Axe handles for the power mauls - I'm not a big fan of using Ork stikkbomms for them like they do in the BoLS codex.

So i've finished modelling a large part of my Arbites Patrol. Decided i didnt like one of the power maul guys as he looked a little too much like he was mincing, so i pulled him apart and made a new one based off the old scout segt. Also knocked together a heavy with a BIG grenade launcher, based off a cut-down autocannon. Size does matter to Arbites. Especially with their Cyber-hounds. Picked up 3 of them for £8 on eBay, only problem being they are Inquisitor scale... still... when theres a riot in an imperial city why get the sniffer hounds out, get the cyber doggies that are built like police horses i say! Think im gonna use the cyber hounds as arco-flaggelents in my sisters army, make a dog-handler who can act as a priest.

Group shot so far. Spray painted them about 10 minutes ago and realised looking at the pics that i forgot to gren stuff handles onto the suppression shields... damn.

Hopefully some painted arbites soon.

Progress made.... woohoo

For now, 3 Arbites with Shotguns and 1 Arbite with a Grenade Launcher. I've also included a couple of group shots with the Arbites prototype i made over a year ago.

Wow, the lighting on the grenade launcher looks awful... I assure you guys it looks much better in real life.

Next up, 1 proctor, 2 Arbites with Power Mauls and 1 Cyber-Mastiff.

Update time.

Really its 3 updates in 1, as i still havent got the hang of updating each time i do something, "oh i'll just wait till the morning and the lights a bit better" or some other such rubbish...

first up, more work done on my Arbites Patrol, 2 Arbites with power mauls and suppression, 1 cyber mastiff and my proctor.

Group shot followed by patrol shot.

And no i didnt base them to blend in with my IKEA cabinets... honest..

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Heres some more painted veterans in carapce armour. They will be added into my 3 current squads to make them 10 men strong.

Finished painting my Helskan version of Sly Marbo, complete with detachable demo charge!!

Those Arbites are very clean metal conversions. Turned out great. How do you work on your metal models? Dremel? Was about to start work on Lord Torquemada Coteaz and thought about cutting some details off and doing a head swap, but I have only been working with plastics exclusively. Tips would be interesting.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

Crossbones - i dont have a dremel, to be honest with my metal models i use a combination of my GW cutters, files and a stanley knife blade. I mainly use the cutters to get rid of any bits of detail i dont want to keep, then file down any rough bits. If i want to keep the bit, i (semi) patiently cut them apart with the knife blade.

Technically they arent great solutions, but they work for me.

Genereicuser - glad you like the shotguns, they're really simple to make, just chop up a lasgun and a flamer and glue them together. Works best with the lasgun with the seperate left hand as that bit tends to get chopped off in the process of making it.

Hopefully gonna get myself in gear and paint some more today/tomorrow.

The power Axes aren't OOP I don't think. They are from the SM Assault MArine Box.

These are all looking good, but the mastiff seems to be lacking something. Maybe some gold accents?

Cool stuff part of me wonders though if the giant cyber hounds would make better Penitent Engines than Arco-Flagellants?

Jimi - one of the power axes is OOP, the left handed one is from the old space wolves sprue, the other two though are from the assualt marine sprue.

I also see what you mean about the mastiff, not sure where to add gold to though, dont want to give him gold teeth and make him look like a gangsta rapper...

llamahead - tbh i dont think they would make good penitent engines due to their size, with true line of sight in the new 40k they are definately too small. They are bigger than flagellants and on bigger bases, but i dont see that being as much of a problem. Also i think the rules better suit flagellents, extra movement, decent close combat, and i would find it hard to justify an armour value or a flamer on them.

Been a busy boy over the weekend, 5 more Helskan ready to serve the Emperor.

Firstly, a new senior officer with bolt pistol and power sword. Havent given him a name yet, need to think about the whole naming structure on Heslka, i kinda want to go with scandanavian names but i cant think of any decent ones, dont want all my guys called sven, olaf or johann.

Next up, Master of Ordnance.

Finally, the last 3 Hardened Vets with shotguns. This means i can finally field all 3 of my Hardened Vets squads as new codex legal 10 man squads.

Next job. Add transfers to the bases of my new guys and then work on the last 4 Adeptus Arbites.

Yeah, i'm not very good at providing in-progress shots.

Glad you like them. Swords and lenses are just Mordian Blue highlighted with a mix of Mrodian Blue and White. For the sword i just kept increasing the white will it was pure white at the end and then washed it with Asurman Blue.
