Updated the first post, new additions in yellow.

BTW I don't get the surprise of Wood Elves getting darker background, because that was the main focus of the 6th edition Wood Elf army book.

Playtesting since 2010? I don't believe for a minute GW playtests their armies for more than a week, let alone 3 years.

I do agree that WE should be more of a neutral army rather than a "good" one. I wouldn't be surprised they'd as easily pair up with their Druchii cousins as their High Elf ones if it suited them, but they are pretty insular already. No sense darkening them.

Thanks for the good work as always, KH.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

That depends on how you imagine playtesting. I would think that a lot of armies are in flux in the design studio with tweaks to try out and additions of units into the army lists they use. There was a picture of a giant spider in the WHFB rulebook way before the army book came out. Also some of the sketches of new units for the dark eldar were 2 or 3 years old when that codex was released. I am curious about the Wood Elves as they were one of the big skirmish armies with the Beastmen. I hope they fare better. I will be interested to see how orion turns out and if they get something interesting to deal with monstrous cav that isn't monstrous cav. I'd love their huge monster to be a giant 'tree house' that can be either an archery platform a warmachine platform or a spellsinger shrine. Having said all that I'm most anticipating Warriors of Chaos to ally with my Beastmen.

You mean 8 whole months? Just because they have a model of it doesn't mean they even know what to do with it. I am without doubt that army book planning goes "Yknow what would be cool?" before it goes "So I have these rules for a giant spider..."

Also some of the sketches of new units for the dark eldar were 2 or 3 years old when that codex was released.

Some sketches stay that way for a loooooong time. Like the sketches for the Ghost Ark, which has been around since the design stages of the 3e Necron codex. They certainly haven't been playtesting THAT for over a decade...

I'd expect that the codexes take a couple years to go from concept stages to completion. Hell, the miniature production from concept art to finished sprue probably takes that long. So I don't think that it would be weird to think that the WE have been in development since 2010 (with playtesting going on that long ago, though maybe not continuously).

I honestly can't wait for the wood elves book think they are going to be awesome, my army is already fun to play adding new stuff will make it even more fun. I am also really excited about the dwarves I just hope they don't kill the rune system. I am a little disappointed that there is no rumor of a lizardmen army book really want that, and believe they need an update.

So no, Lizardmen are not the ones needing the armybook the most.

If anything lizardmen players should NOT want an update because it will mean the nerf bat being taken to slann.

I personally want HE and DE left alone because GW started slaughtering magic item lists down to 9 or 10 items. At the same time, I want new plastics for DE...

This is why GW is so frustrating... Slann needs to be needed, most LM armies are so similar and boring in 8th. But we'll have to wait years for the easy fix...

I never said lizzardmen needed it most I understand other armies have been waiting longer heck I play two of the oldest army books (Dwarves and wood elves) but I also don't believe an atmies need for an update should be based on how long it has been since it has gotten an army book when a new rule edition comes out some armies get hir MUCH harder than others so in my opinionn should be pushed towards thje front to be updated, and some armies are still viable like Bretonia who are still just nasty to play against.

Honestly I would be happy with a white dwarf update if the can't put out an army book yet something to level the playingfield.

I don't know why they don't do a "Screaming Hordes" type booklet like they did when they made the switch to 6th. Then update it every 6 months or so for the armies that haven't gotten their book out yet based on feedback/playtesting. It actually just astounds me that they would release a new edition of the core rules when they haven't even been able to get out army books for the last one...

"So in next months white dwarf there is going to be a leaflet with updates for Codex daemons and daemons in fantasy.

Some changes to old units, flamers are now only S4 in fantasy and some units have had point changes. ect.

Also new units slannesh massive chariot (2D6 +1 impact hits) and other weird chariot thing in 1 kit. the other thing looks and acts kind of like a mobile meat lawnmower. this is in both games and acts like a chariot in 40K.

also soul grinders are coming to fantasy! has T7 6 wounds and a load of upgrades for its shooting. looks pretty mental. the model (40K kit) in the white dwarf and leaflet was on the same base as the giant goblin spider.

also new models for plague bearers (really really nice, some have fly heads) screamers (look similar but with lots of eyes), flamers (similar) and nurgalings (looks like a pile of funny little germ monsters you might get in a dish washer advert).

Also new beastman shaman.

should be out next week ."

Wow, I can't believe how awful GW is at supporting their own games. They basically released an army book a year, that's just terrible.

There were more books released during that time. This list is only for books that have not been updated since the dates given. Some books have been released twice over while others sit 8 years old.

Daemon update is cool for 40k... for fantasy, I think they're a lost cause with the current book... although reducing the strength of flamers is a welcome, but very late, edit........

I mean, what else are they gonna get? new terradons? what us lizards need is WS4 saraus.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Also this:

A couple of tweaks on a sheet/leaflet stuck in WD does not a WD list make!
It may be more than a couple of tweaks but not as much as a WD list ....
My sense of it is it is not that big a document ... in fact I am given to understand it has the fantasy info on one side and the 40K info on the other?
Please, please, pretty please with a cherry on top, O God of Pie and Rumours, tell me that it's 3 BASES of Nurglings for $us 25, and not three poor Nurglings lost in a blister ...

They are indeed nurgling piles, small mounds of nurglings if you will ... not sure what the collective for nurglings would be ... a turd of nurglings possibly.

I can answer that, there are 2 versions, one with a herald, that version's a limited run.

Oh I don't have an inside scoop, but my guess would be its an online only promo (like the old Khorne herald on Juggernaught) of the plastic chariot which includes a finecasted herald of slanesh (or extra bits to make one).

The only frame of reference I have is from when I worked at a lgs a few years ago, games workshop's limited edition items (like Harry the hammered) would appear in a similar format to what's on that page.

I could be completely off though, as it's all guesswork...

But holy moly it's 30$ more expensive! That Herald better be cast in adamantium....

TheDarkGeneral wrote:I mentioned it on the 40k side of rumors a few times in the past year, but I was told that Daemons in both Fantasy and 40K will get a simultaneous release (again) sometime next year close to the summer months. I'll add that I've heard persistent rumors that A:oC and C: are currently being worked on for future release, with lots of implied coinciding with the GD refresh. I'm not sure I can buy it yet, there are a lot of Fantasy and 40k projects that are underway that I fully expect beforehand...

Don't buy stock on that rumor just yet, I mean to say...

Here a pic of the new Beastmen Bray Shaman (Plastic Blister, 14.75 US$) taken from the 9k Painting video. Release 18th August together with the Finecast recasts:

Also a Birdy via Darnok:
I've heard that the plastic dragon ogres are very old ones that were declined from the previous release but that they've been reworked a little. I've also heard that from the play test rules there is (currently) an option to mount a chaos knight on them!

I've also heard some plastic chaos ogres (which are also older sculpts) may also be getting released this time around and that they're "not very good"...

Bummer news about the dragon ogre and chaos ogre sculpts... those could really use a fantastic re-do, not a halfway one!

Chaos Knight riding them, too? They really are following a formula here (i.e. the Tomb Kings stalkers, monstrous cavalry that have a ridden and non-ridden version).

Also, the bray shaman above is lackluster, I think...

(Okay, okay- insert obligatory "not enough skulls" comment, as well)
