So I've recently been updating my Tyranids with a few new models from the codex and once I'd finished building my first Trygon I noticed I stil had quite a bit of stuff left over. After some messing around I decided to use the parts I still had to put together a custom model of the Doom and below is the finished product (Except for painting, not there yet!).

These pictures aren't great, but I have nothing but my phone to take them, and, well they're only an aid because I'm planning to build a newer better version with more Trygon leftovers and some other parts.

I'm just curious what you all think, I know it doesn't fit the Doom's description, hell it only looks vaguely Zoanthrope shaped and I want to know what you like about, what you think is wrong, etc so I can attempt to rectify mistakes with version 2.0.

Thanks in advance.

If brute force isn't the answer, it's only because you aren't using enough of it.

Looks pretty cool. For the 'not zoeyish' issue, it looks pretty damn terrifying, and that would be enough for me.

Get it painted!

Thanks for the feedback, I do like the basics of the model and as for the 'Terryifying' aspect, well being built entirely from the jaws, tail and armour plates of a Mawloc will do that for it's appearance!

One thing I'd like to add to my next attempt though is some way of making it look more like an armoured flying brain as opposed to 'armoured flying spikes and talons' it is right now.

I think I'll keep the Trygon Primes' containment spines on though, as they are similar in some respects to the appearance of Eldar technology and since the Doom got it's power from devouring a craftworld it seems like a nice tie in.

That piece of Aegis Line and those models in that box look perfect - but that vague blurry shape is blocking them out.

Actually (bad photos aside) this looks pretty cool. Agreed the spines look like the spines you see on Eldar vehicles, and I'd say it does kinda look like a Zoey, but just a mean, scary as gak Zoey.

I agree with the potato - I like it.
The general shape is nice and tyranids are all about adaption and change.
There is no right look for anything in the codex as it's such a varied army, as long as your opponents know what it is being played as.
Shape wise, the only bit I don't thing looks right is the claws hanging down... they are too big compared to the size of the model. Hormagaunt claws would be a better fit.
If you're after brain looking shapes - how about the ammo for the strangelthorn I think it is, looks like a hanging sac. two of them may suit your purposes.

@HamHamLunchbox

Thats actually true, the shear psychic awesomeness of the creature it represents bled through into the model causing it to appear blurry and out of focus, it has nothing to do with the poor quality of my phone camera and inability to obtain a better one. Nothing at all.

Seriously though I'll try and get something better than these, but no promises.

@Ourroborross

The main reason I used those claws is for the bulk, I tried smaller ones at first but the tail was just too big in comparisson and it looked kinda strange.
Nice idea about the stranglethorn parts though, I can try and combine them with MC adrenal glands see if that has the right look - plus that would give it the extra bulk and let me use the smaller claws.

@Tek

Thanks and I'll let my SM buddy know you like his models!

Really cool conversion, although you need to sort your camera/phone out before you post your second iteration of the model.

I like the spines and the almost vestigial scything talons, and i think it should look distinct from other zoanthropes, which you have got down-pat.

Perhaps try some green-stuffing to increase the size of the main head-carapace-thingy.... you know, to make it seem like it contains a huge brain.

look forward to seeing what you do with it!

hope i helped :S
