I found a badly painted sternguard model (metal) that I had about a year ago, the head was quite bady mangled beyond recognising and it only had one arm, But I didn't want to let a once beautiful model sit there and wash away. So I figured I could squeeze another hq into my BA army and converted him, i'f anybody knows if I can do anything to represent digital wepons, or improve the amour to make it look more artificer'y then please tell me I'm dieing to know. Well Here he is:

Ignore the paintjob, I'm going to repaint it (in other colors, and better)

I've still got to tidy him up a bit (green stuff, the back needs a bit of work still) but and comments at all would be nice

I think he would benefit from removing the bayonet on the pistol and replacing the tyranid head with something smaller, like a genestealer head?

Seconded - never really seen the attraction of the whole 'heads on banner poles' shtick, especially something as large as a Tyranid head. The banner and pole must be big and ungainly enough as is, without the need to go ramming heads on spikes like a 41st millennium tribute to Oliver Cromwell.

Maybe it's me but there seems to be a bit too much going on.

Try and remove some of the extra stuff you have attached as it's a Little too crowded at the minute.

Sometimes it's a case of less is more, not to mention when it comes to painting you're going to have a nightmare getting all that detail to work.

Remove the bayonet from the Boltgun, take out the knife handle jutting out from nis shoulder and remove that ammo pouch at the top of his banner: No way would he be able to reach it.

Forgot to mention why a couple of bits, I thought up fluff for him before I made him, I made him to really, represent the fluff. Which is (in short)

tyranid infestation on a planet just outside the Baal system, the run up to 992. M41 The hives of Hollonan. The blood angels company is mostly wiped out with a few pockets still alive, calagrus (my captain) along with two battered worn tactical squads, and what's left of an assult squad, their rhino long torn to shreds.

Unable to call for help, the force of about 22 men and a handful of people still alive from their city battle across the planet, fighting off attack after attack for 3 days and 3 nights.

When they reached a stronghold with active coms there were only around 6 or 7 marines left and one volunteer. Calagrus contacts a fleet Just entering range of the planet that they're are survivors. And so one of the most daring rescues ever performed by the blood angels took place. Only 4 marines and a future recruit survived the tyranid attack.

Believing it was his fault a whole company was wiped out calagrus didn't return to Baal. Enstead he took what was left of his company and a few volunteers and dedicated his small 30 man force to hunting tyranids.

Slowly this force grew and soon enough this new company was 70 men strong and had a full space fleet. Although still a member of the blood angels chapter, the flaw and still he obeys comands from Dante.

He will always do what he swore to do. Kill tyranids.

That's the basic storyline (also why the warior head on the banner) there's so much going on with the grenades and bags and purity seals etc. because the fluff I made shows him as a proper survivor and I really wanted to put that through in the model, also I wanted to show he was a proper grisily fighter (why he has power axe not sword or fisty, why he has a scope bayonet plasma pistol)

your probably right about him being a bit too busy thouugh, mabie a couple of missing grenades won't hurt

thanks for the advice

Yeahhh about the ammo pouch, Because he's a survivor and usually takes part in the "kill nids on the planets, save the citizens" kind of job not the "blow the hive fleet to smitherines" job, that he'd have lots of resources and where's he going to put the to stop them stopping his battle mobility? 'coz in my point of view his back poker will be stuffed full of krak grenades for the big'uns.

I've also converted some sternguard (the "recruit and the 4 survivors) to be his retinue, and I will hopefully be getting a rhino foe them too soon which I shall "customize"

I like it. I think it is complex, and is going to be a nightmare to paint. (I am breaking out in a cold sweat just thinking about it.) But when it is done, it will look dynamite! The 'too much going on' thing is true, but I think if you take it to the extreme, it can work. Also, I like the 'head on the banner pole' idea, but I think the size of the 'nid head you have might detract. Is there a smaller head you could use? Or, trim it down to represent damage it took when it was being killed?

Unfortunately no, I don't have a smaller head, but trimming it down I have no problem with. I'll post up pictures when he's painted. but It won't be for a couple of weeks unfortunately

it will look a lot less busy when its all the same paintjob, one of the main reasons why it looks a bit wierd at the mo (imo) is that the old painjob is making it look quite busy'er than it actually is

He's painted now, I just need to ask a feqw questions, how do you paint stone? (like the one he's standing on) and how do you paint ash? (since i figured bugs kill worlds, if he's fighting bugs he's gonig to be fighting on a dieing world) thanks

one thing I did notice when I started painting him is, he looks a lot less bust, I think it was the old paintjob making it lookliek there was more things than there actually was.

well here he is, this time painted:

It looks as if he emerged from a wrecked land raider, got run over by a trukk and had his lunch money stolen. I like it however the knife looks like an orky construction, I'd probably remove it. The eyes could use a snot green base, snot green/scorpion green 1:1 highlight and a white dot, I think it will add intensity with glowing eyes, otherwise nicely done.

to be honest, he is suppost to look like he's fought his way out of a land raider wreck, good idea with the eyes, they're all painted green, and I got rid of the knife, enstead of the knife i made the plasma pistols glowy thingy even glowyer (if thats a word)
