So I got my hands on a couple of compressors. One a very expensive high end "Whirlwind", and the other a cheapo off of amazon. I also have a cheap airbrush and an Iawata eclipse now. Looking to maybe invest in a harder & Steembeck right away as well.

Here are a few things I have been toying around with, yes I know they are not "gaming" related, but I must say anyone who needs a break from GW, or even wants to hone some modeling or painting skills MUST try to make a transition into historical models. The community offers many techniques and help with all aspects of modeling and tips.

The last pics are another attempt at using salt and shades of brown to make rust effects. Not sure I like the outcome thus far, but Im on my way.

Dont worry guys GW stuff is not stopped, just paused. Between moving and jobs and what not I havent had adequate time to paint mass amounts of an army.

Oh I like the rust effect. Very natural look to it. I think you could even go more red in some places.

That's a really nice rust effect. Is this going to be a vehicle only diorama, or will your be adding a tank crew of some foot-flogging infantrymen. Everyone forget that tank don't go anywhere with out support infantry. Well, not if they want to live anyway.

Oh, and I completely agree about getting into historical modeling. The emphasis on realism and getting things to look right definitely carry over into whatever else you decide to do in modeling.

Keep up the good work.

salt for the rust. Use it as a mask while spraying. I used a basecoat of dark brown, then salted to mask a few areas, then went to an slightly more orange tint and salted that layer. Then highlighted with a straight orange brown on very edges. The airbrush saved time and agony there in doing the layering.

QFT.

There has been some occurrences of forces sending armoured-only battlegroups to sweep an area, usually with "desastrophic" results (e.g. the Israeli Defense Force against Hezbollah two years ago : Merkava main battle tanks vs. infantrymen, heavy casualties on both sides in spite of the overwhelming might of the Israeli Army's tanks....)

But in WW2, they weren't usually that alone!!

You should do a tutorial on that rusting

Its hard to be awesome, when your playing with little plastic men.
Welcome to Fantasy 40k

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

a tutorial may be in the works. Right now I am also experimenting with oil paints to achieve good streaking and color fading or discoloration on the tanks and armor.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

No worries there will be figures, at rest no combat scene here. Not a huge fan of the action scenes I like the toned down atmosphere of war.

So here are a few pics. first is a german paratrooper, WW2 1944-1945 and some tanks and armor that used airbrush and oil paint weathering. Just some experimenting and practicing.

The king tiger, did you do the zimmerit yourself, or did it come with it?

Also, Dragon/Tamiya/Other?

Looking great

I recently bought an airbrush myself and I'm both nervous and excited to use it since I have never used one before.

Can't wait how this little project will end up like.
