As we all know, the devil makes work for idle hands, and not that I haven't got a bajillion other models to paint or anything, but I thought I'd have a go at some other projects.
The Carnosaur is a sweet model, and easy enough to chuck some wings on one and turn him into another forest dragon for my WElves I thought. Wings ordered and arrived and on they go - a bit small, but the spare fell beast ones I had were a bit *too* big, and I reasoned that he'd need smaller wings to dodge in and out of the trees with. Fairly happy with him - might add a few scales to smooth out the transition between the wings and the back.

I very lovely friend donated some WElves to my cause [thank you x] and after Dettol-ing and giving them a good scrum, of course my first move was to chop some of them up.
Took off the torso and the bent leg from a couple of wardancers, swapped the torso, changed the position of the leg, changed the sword on one, et viola!
The guy I think will be mid-leap, so I have to figure something out with a flying base, and the girl will just be running.
I'll keep you up to date with progress : )

That is a nice looking dragon! And the poses on the elves are great.

I tend to think that flying bases look a bit tacky, especially on little infantry models. Could you have a part of him brushing past a conveniently placed tree/bit of foliage/ruined bit of stonework mid jump?
That dragon looks great, really brutal. The carnosaur fits perfectly! (way better than the current fd model).
To back up your small-wing reasoning I studied biology as my major at university including a bit about bats. Bats that live in forests tend to have shorter wingspans than those that live in open areas. Not only does that mean they're closer to the body but that shape of wing also gives them more maneuverability. They do tend to have a bit more depth to them (a bit longer in the "fingers") but I think those wings work fine!

I'm amazed at how good the Carnosaur looks with wings! Great job.

jackanory: I know what you mean about the flying bases - I'll have to have a think. It occurred to me that this guy could be jumpting towards a Beastman about to hack him to bits, so I think I need to plan the whole thing out first, instead of just winging it like ususal!

C.Cain, Jack and Molotov, thanks for the kind words : ) they're much appreciated

Hey, liking the idea with the carnosaur although the wings look a bit too small to actually lift it in my mind. How did you get the tail join to look so flawless!? just gs?

yeah, I'm having to console myself with imperfect wings (for the moment - I'm sure there'll be other attempts in the future lol).
Yup, just greenstuff for the joins, I feel I'm getting better at using it. I lick my modelling tool to get the gs smooth lol

progress on the wardancers. I abandoned the flying base pose for the guy as I managed to drop him and the base snapped off - I took it as a sign to think again! I put them on some of the ruins bases from Scibor Miniatures, lovely things.
Partway through the skin on the guy and haven't started on the girl yet : ) enjoy

First of the wardancers finished - not turned out too badly, although the skin is a bit too flat for my liking.

So, Island of Blood released yesterday, and I had a nerd-tastic day of clipping and assembling, and of course, I wasn't content to leave things as they were...
I switched the wings on the griffon and rotated them so it looks as if it's swooping into land rather than cruising into crash. One of the wings really didn't want to stay, so I resorted to the modeller's favourite trick: more glue! it eventually stuck, and then I greenstuffed the gaps where the wings should have sat.

The Skaven I'm doing for my lovely friend Jay - he wanted a cool standard bearer for his skittery little rat-things. So...
- chopped off his head blade, the standard, the censor on the top of his standard pole, the skull on his shoulder and the blade off his pike.
- put the blade on the top of his standard pole.
- cleaned up the skull and stuck it on the end of the pike shaft, and then the censor on top of that.
- chopped off the second banner that he had, cleaned up what was left and stuck that on the pike shaft.
- drew out the big banner shape on the spare fell beast wing I had, and chopped it out.
- filed it down a bit and got rid of the finger joints from the wing. Heated the bits up and bent them into a flowing(ish) shape, stuck the two bits together and left them overnight. Greenstuffed the join (I'll file it down and clean it up later I think) and then stuck it onto his banner pole. Voila! Not bad if I do say so myself.

(two cut fingers in the process - not bad, I'm getting better at minimising the injuries!)

enjoy

My version of the Wasp - Forge World base, but I put the weapons where the legs should go, and the wings from a Vyper on the weapon mounts

a dear friend asked me to do a little project for him, so dutifully I trotted off and got a Warsphinx and a demon Prince to create a wonderul combo of both.
Here we go - one of the wings keeps falling off, and the proportions aren't quite there... but hey, even demon princes aren't perfect - so some more work needs being done there, but so far it's looking quite good, and Jay is very happy with it - I think a nerdgasm may have been mentioned...

I'm looking foreward to seeing some paint on your carno-dragon! That is a really sweet conversion.

I agree with you that the Demonsphinx has some proportion issues. Have you thought about using the sphinx armor, but the demon prince torso? Maybe you could remove the ribcage part from the sphinx (the red part in the pic below) and model the dp torso underneath. Thoughts?

Cheers,
Rawson

that is the demon Prince torso under the 'sphinx ribs - I already took some of the 'sphinx torso off, otherwise it'd be even longer in the body. No easy fix with this one I think... despite the torso issues, the arms on both models were the same size, so I think they're both out a little. I think it's possibly the legs - they need to be beefed up... I'll see what I can do!
