Hi folks,

I've got some bits left over after some conversions I'd like to use up to make Gue'Vesa - essentially Tau Firewarriors with Catchan boots and Cadian hands. To make them look more human I'd like to use the Pig Iron gas mask heads, but I've no idea how these look together, has anyone tried this? How do they scale?

TIA

Simon

Pig Iron heads fit normal guardsmen well. I dont see why they wouldnt look good on tau

Hmm. I wouldn't use the Kolony ones. They just dont have that Tau tech look about them. I'd say the System troopers, or the Heavy infantry are fair game however.

Why not just do one or two up using a touch of putty to hold the bits in place, rather than gluing them and just spend an hour staring at it if to see if its inspiring to you or not.
Myself, I'd love to see some pics of them when you do try it. I always believed the Gue ' Versa opened an awsome door for creativity.

I've done something similar for my Storm Troopers as seen below.

I only used Tau legs with the Cadian boots, torso and arms. Bear in mind that the Tau torso and legs are noticeably smaller than the Cadian plastics. This might make the arms look a bit funny.

@kenshin620, I think they'd fit since they are slightly small for IG, and Tau models being smaller would probably scale ok, but not having the heads, hard to say.

@ghosty, since these are human auxiliaries I don't mind a less techy look, in fact a hybrid of Imperial tech with Tau tech is probably spot on.

@worldwarme, I would if I had the heads! I don't want to buy them if they look bad or too big/small etc hence why I asked. Wasting the money is more of an issue for me as I'm stuck without a credit card after moving to Canada so online purchases have to be made with the funds I put into paypal before I left the UK. If only Mastercard Canada would talk to Mastercard UK. :(

ah Flinty, thank you! Looks like I'll be ok.

I'm planning to use the firewarrior arms with Cadian hands so that should scale out ok, but just be a tricky bit of cutting. For the legs I've been playing about with the boots and I reckon with careful placement I can extend the leg to almost Cadian height, I'll need to GS the trouser leg down to the boot top though.

Flinty is a hero!
That looks pretty damn cool.
Before I forget, just go to walmart , Husky or the like and grab a prepaid credit card (Visa) if you need a Credit card to order>Good luck LG and welcome to Canada!

The biggest problem I found with my Stormies was matching Cadian boots to the Tau leg positions. You can't just jam any boots on or it looks a bit funny.

worldwarme : Thanks, enjoying being here now I'm getting settled in! I tried to get a prepaid from BMO, but they didn't want to give me one as I wasn't a permanent resident, which wasn't overly helpful. Looking at some other options.

Flinty, I'm using the Catachan boots, which have been good for the two I've started.

Some pictures here of my progress - the one with his leg in the air is going to be stepping over something (not decided yet, but maybe a trip wire).

Hey looking good! I think the hands and boots are a good idea. On flintys tests the feet look a bit "puny" and out of proportion, the hands are a sweet idea! The cadian arms looked to big aswall and its a good idea to keep the tau stuff. Keep up the good work!

Nice! I like the look of this. That figure really reminds me of the Halo ODST guys. Probably not what you were going for, but I may have to barrow this idea for my drop stormies.

They look pretty cool, and yeah I have to agree, it looks like something from halo, I really hate the Tau feet, they look too much like animals... but on the other hand they still look pretty sweet as a whole!

I think this is a great idea. Those heads are lovely and the mix of Tau and IG parts works really well. Kinda like the DOOM uy or Master Chief but there are worse designs out there.

Not last night as promised - my server back in the UK fell over again and I can't fix it until someone at home is awake - bother the 8 hour time difference!

So here are the photos via flickr - I didn't go for the master chief type heads, it didn't fit my idea fo grim dark too well. Instead I have the respirator ones, and I'm going to add a Secret Weapon miniatures large backpack to these guys to make them look more human.

looks nice the head and pack go nicely and great job on the legs, I myself am planning on making some human aux for my Tau using Pig iron heads and alot of kitbashing, so kudos on a well executed conversion.
Not sure about the bright blue...I would hate to try and be stealthy in that...unless the planet is equally brightly colored

Great work on fiddling the legs. Makes the model proportions look much better than standard Cadians

I would recommend hitting the pack straps sith a bit more colour or definition. It looks a bit unfinished just now. Great pose, great execution, very blue!

Yeah the blue is very bright, it almost seems to glow. I'm an old school RT player and I like things to be bright, since I have to do my historical stuff in muted tones I like to go wild on my sci-fi. It may upset the purist, but it keeps me happy!

Agree on the pack straps, maybe I'll hit them with a lighter green? I could do brown but I think it would look a bit odd.

I tend to use brown on my pack straps and I quite like the look. The other option is just to go black ballistic nylon with a dab of metallic on the buckle. Just to help break up the pure greenness of the pack

Maybe tan would be better, keeps the IG feel?

For some reason I feel that silver for the button is not very stealthy! (and most military packs I've ever handled had green painted buckles - which of course had mostly worn off.)
