What does a guy do while waiting for his future army to be released? Why, build tanks of course. Lots of tanks. I figure I've got at least six months before the Sisters of Battle are out, and in the meantime I'll be building an assortment of tanks for them to drive around in.

After a bit of trial and error, I've decided to use 200 gsm paper, backed by cereal box card for the thicker detail. This paper is good at not warping but doesn't roll too well, I also picked up a few packs of Evergreen 1/4" and 1/8" tube for details like exhausts and gun barrels. I built a practice hull to get most of the mistakes out of the way, and have now started work on the real thing.

The first vehicle I'm building is the most important: a Repressor for the Canoness. As well as the standard features, I'll be giving it a Damocles-style comms array to show who's in charge.

In the picture below you can see the current progress on the first bulldozer blade and the comms array, sitting in front of the prototype Repressor hull. I felt the weedy little blade you get with the Forge World Repressor wasn't big enough, and instead based mine off the Vindicator 'dozer blade, perfect for clearing the road of civilians enemy combatants obstacles. The downside is that I'd forgotten the Vindicator driver's window was offset, meaning the viewport in the bulldozer blade is in the wrong place for a standard rhino. Not to worry, I'll just have to give the Command Repressor the same offset driver's window, and use the extra space for a nice big Fleur-de-lys or something.

That looks great. I've been meaning to work on some paper-craft models I have (the template anyway). How long did that take, and how sturdy is it?

I'm looking forward to seeing more, and more of the process.

The prototype was done in a couple of weeks, but I could easily do it faster. The bulldozer blade and the comms array have taken two days so far. They're quite sturdy, you can grab the prototype and squeeze it with a moderate amount of force, and nothing happens but a slight beating sound as it pops slightly out of shape. Most of the vehicle is strengthened by at least a few layers of card under the detail, and it's all glued together with PVA rather than paper glue.

hey dude.
i do very similar models. are you using foam as a core and building it up around that . thats how i do it and then... if you buy really small nails (i think they are for framing but not sure) that are 1 cm long with about a 3 mm head, they work great for rivets AND they hold the paper or cardboard to your model. some of the tanks in my gallery are made that way. i have build a ton of stuff liek that and they are very durable if you use some foam to build up from.

No, they don't use any foamcore in their construction. Thanks for the suggestion about the nails, though. I was wondering how I should do the rivets, and that seems like a good method.

I have to admit that I am on a similar path with my own SoB project. I would like to blame my recent love affair with papercraft, or the utter rareity to find SoB armor at the FLGSs; however the fact of the matter is that due to funds getting directed into our epic oct30 wedding, I feel the need to be cheap and proxy for now.

Here is a WIP pic of an immolator I havefurther along than pictured(90%ish). Construction is heavy cardstock, I dunno weight ibh, using super glue because I am not patient enuf for elmers

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, Ed. For me, the problem is availability. I was hoping Forge World could be persuaded to get some Immolator boxes in for a big Repressor + Immolator order, but after a response I'll paraphrase as "Haha, no." I went for this option, at least until I find out if GW will be releasing a plastic Repressor.

Day 3:

I've cut, scored, folded and glued the basic hull of the Command Repressor together, and finished the comms array. Unlike the prototype, I've been gluing the detail panels on after the core section has been glued shut, not before. So far this appears to be achieving its goal of keeping things aligned properly while they dry.

Back at you.
i wasnt refering to foam core... i was talking about insulation foam, the pink or blue kind that you can find in lots of terrain tutorials. its easy to shape using an xacto and its durable, light weight and lends real support to whatever you use it on. all you have to be carefull of is making sure that any exposed foam gets a layer of PVA or similar glue so that when you paint it it does not become a foaming melting mass when the primer hits it.
if you want to make even easier rivets just get a very small diameter paper punch and use that to manufacture the small rivets you need. there are some very tiny paper punch out there.

Day 5:

I've added some more detail to the command repressor, but the main thing I've done is started work on a second hull. This one is an Exorcist, being made with a Hyperios turret on an Immolator hull.

Nice adaption for the exorcist, I found a non patroch model that is done up as a forgeworld exorcist. I built 3 tops up for a 2vs3 4k game we played a few weeks ago.

Edited to replace pic... thanks for the heads up GoodGreen

It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. As someone who has dabbled in the paperhammer...I am impressed!

It would be really good if you could flesh out that hyperios with some missiles...don't know what you could use though...

I don't have any plans to add the missiles themselves, but the Hyperios launcher is exactly the right size for me to add a 2*3 array of 1/4" missile tubes to the front.

Day 6:

Cutting out two Rhinos worth of road wheels. That's 56 pieces of card-backed paper with curved edges. Make Alex go crazy.

Day 9:

I've made quite a bit of progress: I've finished cutting the wheels and glued the main ones in position, added the icon to the front of the Repressor, the turret, the teeth of the bulldozer blade...

I've also created a concept sketch for the counts-as Stormlord I'd like to build as a centrepiece to the army. Input would be appreciated.

Looks nice! I too am curious where your templates came from (assuming you used templates). I was once upon a time working on a Paperhammer Thunderhawk. Got somewhat fizzled out on it though, I think it's ina box somewhere.

Day 15:

I've attached the tracks, and started detailing them. And since I've finished the fiddly bits on the front of the Repressor, I've now glued the bulldozer blade in place. The teeth are a bit crooked, but seeing as they're there to be smashed into things, I think such damage would be understandable.

Lookin good. since your maybe not down with using wire nails driven through the surface as a means to rivet it are you going to use a really small hole punch on cardstock?

The basic files are Patoroch's .pdfs, which I've been mixing and matching to come up with different vehicle variants.

I'll probably go with the hole punch method, but that can wait for now.

Day 20:

I've done some more work on the first two vehicles, but I've mainly been working on other things: trying out different varieties of heavy flamer to see which ones look the best, doing the design work for a couple of new vehicle variants, and starting work on the next two vehicles.

Here you can see the size difference between a Rhino and The Shrine of the Emperor's Wrath, the first of those two more unusual variants I'm working on.

I'll probably be making an Order of Our Martyred Lady army but I'm not 100% sure yet, so I'll probably wait until we've at least got an unofficial confirmation of the rerelease before I start painting them up.

Now, a question: the Shrine's front end is basically going to be two Land Raider hulls side by side, with a Vulcan Mega Bolter replacing the Heavy Bolters. Should I centre both the assault ramp and the Vulcan, or should I put the assault ramp on one side and the Vulcan on the other?

The Shrine is a unique vehicle that will use the rules for a Stormlord with four sponsons. The look I'm going for is shown in the sketch further up the thread: a small Gothic church with a pair of Land Raiders built around it. The second story of the church serves as the Stormlord's fighting platform.

Since the Sisters of Battle don't have fleet assets like the Space Marines, or traditional ultraheavy command posts like the Imperial Guard, I wanted to create something that could serve as an HQ for a Sisters force on the move. Fluff-wise, it's an artifact from before the Age of Apostasy.

Day 23:

Design and manufacture of The Shrine of the Emperor's Wrath continues. The basic hull has been assembled, as you can see below, and weighs in at 7cm high, 15cm wide w/o sponsons and 23cm long. The Repressor is for comparison purposes only. On the other hand, this gives me a couple more ideas...
