Subject: Stony's 40k Nurgle Daemons Blog - Updated Oct 3 - Second plaguebearer finished!

Welcome one, welcome all, to the great gathering of Stony's Nurgle Daemons! Here you will be able to watch my progress on the way to building a Nurgle Daemon force for 40k!
A bit about me I guess. I love putting my own spin on my models. The hobby to me is about having fun in all aspects, so I really try to let my creativity fly when it comes to warhammer. When I started in 3rd edition ( 40k) I got in with a group that was all about taking it easy and having fun with your modelling, and one guy always pushed me to get my ideas out. So far, this Daemon army has been my favourite, although they take forever and cost a butload.
My vision of Daemons are creatures from your worst nightmare, and frankly, the skinny plaguebearers didn't fit that for me. That led to the idea of a supersized daemon army. Call it a Mcdonalds daemon army if you will. That means bigger plaguebearers, bigger daemon princes, bigger great unclean ones, bigger beasts, bigger nurglings and... well the codex runs out there. I'm going to have 1 Guo, 3 Daemon princes, 3 Beasts of nurgle, 14 nurglings, 28 plaguebearers and Epi when this 1500 point army is done. The fun won't stop there, as I'll probably add a few more units after that going into forgeworld rules and whatnot.
So without further ado, light one up, pass it around, and enjoy the pictures.
My only finished model so far, a plaguebearer
WIP of him, and another one
My Daemonprince at various stages, still wip
Nurglings still wip (in need of eyes)
And last but not least, my favourite so far, the Beast of Nurgle
and a further WIP shot so you see what he's made of:
And a few group shots for scale
So yeah, I'm finishing up the beasts base tonight and hoping to get him primed. Can't wait to paint him.
Peace!
Edit: Haha, I already screwed up. I was meaning to post this in the blogs section, is it possible to get it moved there?

Thanks for the comments everyone, it's the oil that keeps this engine running!
@Linked: I'm going to do some more work on them tonight hopefully, so I'll throw up a new picture of them tomorrow.
@SweetLou: Plaguebearers are on the normal bases, normally. These models are just to big for them to look right on that size base so I went up one size. This is probably really going to hurt me when it comes to deepstriking, but I think it looks cooler.

Have you ever played 40k before?

You're really not going to have fun when these guys get on the field...they're simply too big. When you're playing an army that takes as much finesse as Chaos Daemons, you don't want to do anything that's going to hinder your performance.
I would reccomend maybe making the guys on the 40mm's count-as Fiends or Screamers (maybe Bloodcrushers) and find an alternative for the Plaguebearers that actually fits on the proper bases.

@ Munch Munch! - Yup, this is my 8th 40k army.
@Darth bob - How can I hinder my preformance when I set the level I preform at?
Either way, glad to hear that you think my army is too big. If it helps I think your army is too small.

The problem is that when assaulting you will have an advantage... not many people will want to play you with massive bases for everything. I like all the models except the plaguebearer for this reason.

Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes... |

Maybe he should create an apoc. datasheet for mega plaguebearers.

Actually that might be cool (insert mite b cool picture here). He could call them Bile Gorgers or something similarly gross then make a unit equivalent to Ogre Bulls in fantasy but for 40k. Very cool idea and i'd love to play against it.

I suppose they could use the rules for plague ogryns?
In any case, I agree with you; the BoN is my favorite too. But the green stuff must have cost a fortune.

Well, as cool as your ideas are, the plaguebearers are staying as is. Guess I'm lucky to have a more relaxed gaming community than wherever you guys are. May have to make a bigger model to fit with your guys ideas, more for the love of nurgle!
@Saintspirit - It wasn't all that bad, in total about one pack, because I used a tinfoil frame. Compare the cost of the BoN metal model to the cost of a pack of greenstuff, and it works out nicely.

For a relaxed game these would probably be ok. But if you were to enter these into a tournament, alot of players would give you flak. Not to mention what would happen if played in a cityfight game...

Any chance you got the shell idea from an old White dwarf batrep?
Everything is looking good though so far, and the scheme is pure quality.
Ordo dakka: How is that base size an advantage?
Its the other way round mate.
You make it smaller for an advantage so less models can get into contact.
With a single attack model you dont want that much contact to start with.
It also makes deepstriking a pain in the arse.
Check the forum, an old WC member got toasted for it with his crushers in a tourney a while back. (smaller bases)

Well progress has been slow, but I managed to paint a plaguebearer today. I also picked up some greenstuff and started work on another pb. Here they are:
Plaguebearer
- First time sculpting a hand. I think it'll do the job and I learned alot from it and got lots of ideas how to improve for next time.
And now that brings me to a complete 61 point army!
And the next pb, he has a HUGE gut and is running forward, guts trailing behind.
I think I'm going to work on the icon plaguebearer next/along with this one, and I should get an army "Showcase" up for my chaos nurgle band, the lords of contamination, sometime this week. Keep an eye open!
