Well I just made myself a bowl of ramen noodles so that's where the inspiration for this thread came from.



My favorite flavor is Oriental.

So what's your favorite flavor, all you connoisseurs of ramen here on dakka?


And how do you prepare your ramen? Add anything to it? Any orginal recipes? Share! (eating just plain ramen gets a little boring)

I prefer chicken.

I have eaten so many they all taste the same to me anymore. They are all my favorite!

I have found pork to be absolutely dreadful, while shrimp is just odd.



And beware the creamy chicken.

I like Chicken and Beef flavored. I like to drain all of the water before I add the seasoning packet to the noodles. Then it's just the noodles with seasoning and not a soup. It's pretty good.

I happen to love pork and creamy chicken, tyvm! The other night I prepared the latter with some canned chicken and a few blots of green habanero concentrate. 'twas amazing indeed

Also, it would be cool if people shared different ways they prepare their ramen! Like recipes and what not. I shall also put this in the OP.

Ramen..}shudder{...I've eaten so damn much of this stuff in my life that it's hard to look at,however in the spirit of the thread I'll do my best.

My favorite flavors:

Oriental & Spicy shrimp(?)...I believe it was shrimp...

Over the years I attempted a few recipes with Ramen,adding quick fried chicken and some minced green onion with a dash of plum sauce and a few crispy rice noodles seemed to work best...but a bit of sweet pork works nice as well.

I like chicken flavored.
How I prepare it is, I drain out 80-90% of the water, then add flavoring.
while eating ramen (only if its an instant-lunch ramen cup) I dip those rectangle club crackers in, get some noddles on it, and then eat the cracker and noodles.
Its very good.
Also, I salt my ramen, every time.

Shrimp is my favorite flavor.

My brother who is over in Korea came back for two weeks with a recipe, it was something like velveta cheese melted into Chicken Ramen with hot peppers sprinkled into it. I will send him an e-mail asking about it later.

Ugh, Top Ramen... No wonder you hate the pork. I suscribe to Maruchan brand ramen, their Chicken is delicious, their beef is delectable, their pork is delightful, and their Roast Beef flavor is the tastiest fething ramen I've ever had in my life. Their Oriental ain't bad either.
When I make ramen, I put the noodles in a bowl of water, microwave for 3 minutes, drain the water, add the flavoring and mix well. I usually fill up the flavor packet with water after adding the powder, both to get the rest of the powder and to get a bit of water back in the ramen for mixing.

Now what creeps me out is those sick variant flavors... You know the ones...

Please don't try and work around the swear filter. ta.

Used to eat the oriental stuff all the time. The other flavors were fine, but the oriental was what I liked most.

Now I try to avoid the stuff like the plague. The sodium level on it is just unreal.

That is not ramen. Maruchan, Top, or whatever other prepackaged salt infused pack of dry noodles that are out there.

Now, they can be a decent base to making respectable ramen, but it's still nothing close to the real thing.

I miss Japan. *sighs*

What the hell is "oriental" flavor? It either tastes like a person or a region and that's always scared me from trying it.

Oh, and I always cook my ramen for 3 minutes in the microwave, stir it, cook it for 2 more, stir it, cook it for 1 more, and eat it.

We don't really use the term Ramen here, just basic insta noodles. Koka are likely the most popular though horribly bad for you.

Curry was always my favourite, but good old beef or chicken do the job too.

Also, I have the second the wtf statement at "oriental" flavour. American cheese and French breads are products. Would you really want to try " American flavour" noodles? D:

If it said Mexican I'd be comfortable with it though. But that's just one country. It's still weird :/

See there's some logic for ya... You've eaten Mexican before, right Cannerus? Same idea.

I'm not exactly Mr. Moneybags, so as a result, ramen has been my best friend many a night. I do it the old fashioned way, on to stovetop! Standard job of boiling two of the noodle bricks in water for a few minutes, then I drain out about 3/4 of the water, and add a chicken flavoring packet, and a shrimp one. Stir it all up nice and good, add a dash of salt and black peppar, and enjoy.

I've also got a recipe for a "ramen omelet" if anyone feels brave enough to try it.

Ramen is for little girls and pets. Real men go for Udon noodles.

Grrrr i myself love instant noodles too , and have tried way too many for my own good!
OP , those ones really have no right to be called ramen , they are so awful ( no offense ! )

So allow me to recommend you, after eating bunch of gross ones , my favorite ramens ><

Tonkotsu flavored ramen from Sapporo Ichiban . This is by far the only instant noodle that actually tastes ... authentic i guess , to the real ones.


Though for the price and how good it tastes , nothing beats

I tasted the packets individually the other day.

I think the powdery one can be left out... too much MSG in it , and the sauce tastes way better anyways.

Yeh, sometimes I leave the spicy part out, but most of the time it's fine.

Haven't tried it without the power, might give it a go next time.

One of the packet = lemon grass
The sauce is mongol sauce ( thats what they call it in mongol BBQ places xD )

Very rare that i get to taste those , and especially in an instant noodle.

Im tasting the packets so i can attempt to replicate the taste in a normal noodle dish minus the msg + preservatives found in instant ones.

Cool, that will be way healthier.
