Hey all

I've started on a new IG army, heavily inspired by the Danish Army in Afghanistan.

I actually started writing in this post: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/319838.page but since im going to continue, i thought i might as well start a blog

Any C&C along the way, is welcome, but the theme is pretty solid, so i dont think im gonna make any changes in it

Yeah, cool stuff! Little OT question, have you seen movie Armadillo? IMO it is one of the best war documentaries I've ever seen, and I instantly thought of it when I saw your blog.

Finally got the time to upload some pics of the first complete squad and chimera.

I can now positivly say that this is the last time I dip my models in the quick shade!!! Its clogged up so many places that some of the models just look brown...sucks. With the test model i painted the quick shade on, and that worked, but with the rest of the squad i was tired and got lazy, so i just dipped them, and now i pay the price!

But any way, here they are, let me know what you think.

I havent added squad or vehicle markings yet, but that might come later.

Especially love the dust & sand on the Chimera...

By the way, do you plan on modelling dust shoals for the troopers?

I think he means the way sand shoals around people's feet [danner en lille bølge]. A small GS hump around the toes or heels of the troopers before you base with sand is reasonably fast, simple & cheap, and looks OK. But hey, I can't be bothered either. Not with the minis I use to play with anyway

Can I ask what you use for stipling, brush-wise? I'm painting 1.5k bugs and I wanted to do some on the chitin, but I don't know if it's me or the brushes I've tried... But it takes aaages and I can't seem to make a brush last more than 3 minis, at most.

Sorry, it was a typo : I was thinking of shawls, the wraps of fabric soldiers in the desert put around their neck & face to protect them from the sand, as in :

Wow I am definitely subscribed to this. You've achieved something along the lines of what I generally try and aim for, but way better than I could ever do it! I may 'borrow' your camo pattern for the Chimera, and also the altered build pattern.

It's all the more impressive for the fact that you are doing this on deployment.

Ygdrasil: Ah, no. To much work and i dont really see them being used anywhere, except for when we are being transportated on top of vehicles. And even then its not everybody who uses them.

Simsum: Just a standard brush that i wear out a bit, nothing fancy really.

I need some help on deciding something.

The danish tanks in Aghanistan are all covered in camo netting, and i really want to illustrate this on my models.
So far ive tried using some gauze soaked in watered down PVA glue, but its some messy work, and when I look at it, im not sure if i like it.

So, i would apreciate any ideas and comments you guys should have.

Should i keep going, or just paint it like the chimera, or do anyone have a better idea?

Let me know what you think

Could we possibly get some close ups?

But I think if you are going to use netting I would suggest you to use multiple nets instead using only one per side. That way you can follow the shapes of tank more easily and you can make all the edges look more sharp. In that way it won't look so much like "potato sack" if you know what I mean.

And I would also suggest to not to cover the whole tank with netting. Leave some armour visible at lower parts of sides etc. I think in that way it will look better.

Its my intention to cover the entire tank, using pieces of netting, cut to fit each area.

But heres a close up, and a reference pic of a Leopard 2A5

I agree with Xenon: covering the whole thing in netting will make it look like somebody managed to throw a bag over a LR. As you can see in the reference pic of the Leopards, only the odd section here and there is covered. You can still make out that it is a Leopard underneath very easily.

If you click on the image, you get a close up, and then you will see its the entire tank thats covered.
Well except for the RPG railings, and the engine exhaust on the back(not shown).

And it would be alot easier without the sponsons

Yes but I think the result in miniatures will be much better if you don't cover the whole tank. I mean you can cover most of it but leave some areas uncovered.

And thanks for that close up. Helps a lot. And btw what kind of bandage are you using? I think it looks way too thick.. But I would suggest to use more thin bandage. Like this one.
http://www.carestonemed.com/Medical-Disposables/Bandage/images/Side-woven-Gauze-Bandage.jpg
I think it would give the wanted effect. And would be much easier to work with.
