Yeah as I told YB ,, now he has to paint something like the rest of us to keep the thread moving. I'd have to say it was good to see your process and I learned alot myself about the techniques you use. I'll be re-applying some for sure.

I only went back to read the first post a few days ago and it seemed to me that you liked the original scheme a bit more than the FW scheme, so I painted one up in the classic yellow scheme as well. Will post soon, not at home right now.

TiB, you guys all did phenomenally well. As one of the judges... having to make a decision was NOT easy and involved many PM's between us and lively debate about what exactly the criteria would be because different criteria would result in different winners. I loved seeing this old chapter get some attention, and the fact that you all did such a great job and put so much thought about not only the end result but the process that went into it, just made it all that much more special to see.



I gave tipios a choice of several prize options. The one he chose should become apparent fairly soon. Again, congratulations tip & everyone else who donated their time and creative skills to the project. I'd call it a great success!


Next month... paint a Mantis Warrior competition... because Gits has gotten too darn lazy to do his own work!!

I was seriously considering doing a Red Scorpion contest, as I am yet to have at it. It is kind of a fun community thing for sure. if I can figure out the colors, at least I can do the torsos and the termis I have for it.

At least you have a good excuse. With me it's just... sloth... and an acute interest in seeing what people come up with.

lol you could go through the unloved chapters of 40k, there's quite a few that you don't see around on the forums.

Mentor Legion? having done a MW for gits and exorcists for my nephew I'd pick Red Scorps, but that's just personal preference. Not fussed, thematic feels good. Maybe lost chapters, IA, or something else entirely? It is interesting to see everyone's different take on the same "thing".

Hi folks, following on from this discussion and the mighty contest:
Over on my blog I'm planning on running a painting competition of some sort. I'll be off dakka for a couple of weeks, so that setting a wee GMS holiday challenge would be in order. I'm not entirely sure what the challenge will be yet: Deathwatch or CowbOrks, I think. There's a lot of interest in doing one-off marines so DW is where I'm leaning. Judges will be myself and leadlegion - good to have a pro's painting eye on board, while I tend to be more about the modelling side.
Oh, and there will of course be prizeS to account for the swappable element of this

Here you go YB heres another Fire Hawk scheme by SpikyJames over on Warseer, he's a very talented painter its his Space Wolves in the 40k 6th edition rules towards the back. I saw them in person at a tournament a few months ago they were excellent.

So, I finally got my painting table put back together and sat down for a few minutes to paint. Mostly touching up some marines I started a while ago. Not much to actually show, so no photos. But, I did want to highlight a birthday present my father-in-law got me:



LED Light and Magnifying Glass

They're made by Rockler, which makes tools for woodworking. My dad said it's the biggest magnifying glass (in terms of diameter) that they make. Here it is put together:



And this will give you some idea of the magnification:



In any case, very helpful for fixing little mistakes and touchups. Hopefully, it will help me avoid mistakes in the first place.

I've had a devil of a time trying to work some GS into a mushroom cloud, so I decided to try to build up a relief using liquid GS. Not sure it's going to work, but I hope I can add some texture as each layer dries...

Also, the bits for CtC's Space Wolf:



Still need a backpack. Haven't decided on weapons yet... CtC, any preferences? Boltgun? Bolt pistol? Plasma pistol?

And, the bits for SL's Lamenter:



He won't have 4 arms; I just need the extra ones for the pistol and sword. Shoot, just realized I need different shoulder pads...
