Hi, Everybody!
I meant to do this yesterday, but work got the better of me. Sorry.
First, I'd like to thank everyone who entered models in the contest. I've really learned a lot from all of the techniques you've demonstrated, and you all have turned in some amazing models. Thanks.

Unfortunately not man, sorry. My Vallejo selection is rather slim as of yet. All I can compare it to right now is the GW paints. And wow! Awesome to see all the different takes on the Fire hawks! Nice work all around!

Some of those are pretty damned awesome. I love the Fire Hawks and I'd love to have participated, but I can barely be bothered to paint my own models, let alone get dragged into painting a whole different scheme, haha. I like the colors on both Ramos's and Giraffex's figures. I think you could go either way and end up with a pretty phenomenal looking army. Not that you'd end up in a bad place with the others. I just think those two capture the feel of the Fire Hawks best.

I want to remind everyone that in order to be qualified for the competition, you have to send your firehawk to yellowbeard! That was stated very clearly in the rules. The point being so he can have these figures in hand to help him make his decisions on what techniques he wants to use *and* help him actually see/learn the new painting techniques.
Since Solar & perhaps I are offering decent prizes for the winners... I don't think that's too much to ask.
Please PM yellowbeard to make shipping arrangements.
Thanks!

That's his call... but the original idea was to give him some minis in-had to use as examples... which is always better than just looking at pictures. (and to give his fledgling army a little boost in men).

I would like to drop out of the competition as I have no interest in the prize so think its a bit unfair if I'm considered over others. I just entered as I wanted to try painting a Fire Hawk.
I wasn't intending on sending mine anyway, it was optional under YB's comp rules. I've also grown attached to my Fire Hawk and don't want to part with him in fact I want to paint him some friends

Hey, Everybody.
Sorry I haven't responded; I was a bit busy....
Orignally, Solar_lion and Gitsplitta indicated that the mini should be sent to me, the idea being that it is better to see the actual mini than just a picture. While I agree that you can see the colors better that way, I changed that requirement because I didn't want to discourage anyone from entering the contest. The problem now is that all of the entries are so good, it's hard to judge them! In any case, I would love to see your minis, but I also undestand why you would want to hold on to it, so sending the mini is still optional.
Let me offer you this, though: if you do send me the mini, I'll do my best to return the favor with a GMS mini. How's that? (I already have plans for SL, Graven, and tipios....)
And as for Graven, well, no worries, as I got to the Last Star Scorpion personally, and Flying Poo and I are going swap Fire Hawks as a result.
@GiraffeX: you're still in, mate. If you want to keep you FH, please do. I understand completely! But, I want to see the Fire Hawks you paint up! (Oh, btw, I'll get around to doing an Exorcist at some point, too. )

@Eggroll: Hey, welcome to my blog. I didn't know you were watching. I'm kind of intimidated now! I love your work, so if I ever actually paint anything, let me know what you think!
@eldartau: thanks! Will do.

I did. I had to think about what to do about sending minis or not and confer with my advisors. I'll reply in a bit.

Seriuosly, though, as I said, that's going to work out.
Graven wrapped the mini in bubble wrap and sent his in a small plastic box called Really Useful Box ( size=0.14 litre) in a mailing envelope.

I've sent them just in a small cardboard box, wrapped in tissue paper (with sticky tape to hold it together) many times without a poblem. Just take them to the post office and ask for them to go to the US and they will get there

Think I might send it to you.
This marine was given to me anyway, and it entered a paiting competition before in my LGS, and won.
Only then it was a Blood Raptor..
Saw this competition and decided to partially paint it over to continue his life as a Fire Hawk. Gotta say this competition is way more better than the one over here lol!
I sent a package to the US once before, got there 6 weeks later lol. Hope this one will get there sooner.
I will keep you updated on how and when I'm gonna send it to ya!

Hi Everybody!
Here it is, the post you've been waiting for!
But first, I'd like to thank Gitsplitta and Solar-lion for coming up with the contest and for sponsoring it! Thank you, gentlemen!
Also, I'd like to thank all of the people who entered the contest! All of the entires are excellent, and I've learned a great deal from watching you all paint up your minis and work out your tutorials. I've been told by friends that the Dakka community is incredible, and your contribution to this competition demonstrates that very nicely.
This was an extraordinarily dififcult contest to judge. As I said, all of the entries are excellent, and I wish I could give each of you a prize. Unfortunately, as SL said, it is a competition, and there can be only one! So without further ado, the winner is....
Ramos Asura!
Ramos' marine really had everything we were looking for: excellent painting, excellent tutorial, clearly a Fire Hawk, a process relatively easy to replicate, and attention to details.
Congratulations, Ramos! Please PM Solar_lion about your prize... and let us know when you get it!
But wait, there's more!
This was a very difficult contest to judge, and we really wanted to give out more than one award, so Gitsplitta generously is sponsoring a second prize, a Judges' Choice Award! And the recipient of the Judges' Choice Award is...
tipios!
tipios' marine nicely reflects my request to paint the Fire Hawk "as you think the Fire Hawks should be." In doing so, tipios produced a striking and creative marine that is very well executed. It is not as true to the chapter as described by GW, but it does reflect tipios' own preferences in its incorporation of CSM parts. And clearly, he put a lot of work into the model. We were really impressed with the rich colors and the quality of the flames he achieved on the model.
Congratulations, tipios! Please PM Gitsplitta about your prize... and let us know when you get it!
Well, that's it. The Paint a Fire Hawk Contest, which I think was very successful, is now complete. Thank you all again for your participation and for checking out my blog!
(Now, I guess I have to paint something myself.... )
