I'm pretty new to Dakka but decided to start a blog about a SM chapter i've created which is a successor chapter of the blood angels. I'm not up to date on all the 40k fluff so forgive me if i contradict some pre existing stuff. Anyways, heres the Misfits.

After the Horus Heresy the chapters of the Astartes where split into different successor chapters and the Blood Angels were no different. The entire legion was divided into various chapters each paying homage to their Primarch Sanguinius recently fallen to the traitor Horus. One such chapter was named The Crimson Ghosts its Chapter Master, Master Danzig. It was soon after the Crimson Ghosts were formed that they were a topic of discussion amongst, Captain So and so of the Blood Angels and Azkaellon, the one responsible for supervising the division of the Blood Angels. So and so wasn't impressed with the Crimson Ghosts, having recently returned from obliterating xenos from a recent far off mission he called them reckless and anti-authority, likening the chapter to the Space Wolves in their attitudes. "These men are unconventional in both their attitudes and tactics" So and so stated. "They border between blatant disrespect and hidden mockery of others."
Azkaellon listened patiently to So and so thinking back to when he formed the Crimson Ghosts. Politics knows no bounds and the Adeptus Astartes is no exception. Azkaellon had known Chapter Master Danzig prior to the Heresy and knew of his unorthodox attitudes which seemed to infect the very men he lead to battle. It was no coincidence that the newly ranked Chapter Master was given leave to take the men in his charge with him to the Crimson Ghosts however this was kept secret from So and so and the others. It was while So and so was bemoaning Danzig that Azkaellon remembered his decision to keep Danzig and his men together in the same chapter. Better to keep them together he thought. Let their attitude thrive or die within this new Chapter. "Danzig and his men do no resemble Blood Angels, they're Misfits" declared So and so slamming his hand to the table before him. It was at that point Danzig entered, smiling at his comrades his long black hair brought forth down the middle of his face to a point. "Misfits are we?" he asked. He took one look at Azkaellon and knew for certain what was on the veterans mind. "Yes we were put together for a reason I realize that. Well So and so, if Misfits you call us then Misfits we shall be." He laughed, "the Crimson Ghost shall be our badge but while we slaughter then enemies of our Emperor, our name Misfits will be on the dying breath of our enemy." With that he left to be with his newly made Misfits.

Since their founding the Misfits have been made to know to the rest of the Empire both as battle hardened warriors and somewhat outcast in nature. They do not carry the same attitudes and many of their brethren especially those of the blood of Sanguinius. The Misfits have been known to cooperate extensively with the Angry Marines, so much so that the two can often be seen together in many missions. The Misfits regard the Angry Marines with amusement and have made it a sport provoking them during contests into fits of rage where they sputter and froth at the mouth uncontrollably. The Misfits are viewed much like a wayward stepchild which is perhaps why they get along famously with the Space Wolves and Angry Marines. There have been several accounts where a Misfit has been known to make advances upon members of the Adepta Sororitas after which they have always regretted it usually resulting in a bolter wound or two much to the pleasure of other battle brothers.

Thats my fluff, here are a couple shots, they arn't the best since my dslr doesn't have a macro lens i'm using someone elses point and shoot. This mini is still a WIP.

Ok better shots now of my sergeant for my assault squad. Anyways, this chapter combines my love for the Misfits punk band and SM. I'll have to find a suitable model for Chapter Master Danzig soon i'm thinking. For those that havn't heard of the Misfits, if you like punk music you should check them out.

Another marine from the assault squad. I should mention with the sarg, this was my first attempt at battle damage to the armour. Not quite loving the effect i've created so any suggestions for red armour would be appreciated.

I was working on my chaplain and an assault marine last night and i'm pretty pleased with my results. I tried the glowing eyes for the first time and i think it looks pretty good. I'm actually really pleased with my chaplains helmet because i was absolutely wasted on japanese whisky and managed to produce some nice results.

Well...how did you do that shoulder pad? Thats almost like for like to the misfits!

I'd be tempted to punk them out a bit, add some mohawks or those big teddy boy esque things they had...which are actually present on a few early SMs.

For the skull i just drew it on using a drawing pen (can't remember the brand). As far as mohawks, what i'm going to do for some commanders is do the hair they way danzig and the others wore theirs, with it coming down the front of their face. I'm not sure what you mean by the teddy boy.

I like the models but in the fluff they were punished for destroying xeno, space marines would be rewarded for destroying xeno.

Anyway the chaplin has come out really well and you have some dynamic poses on the assult marines

Thanks. As far as the fluff, i didn't have them punished more like lumped together to keep them seperated from the "regular" marines.

Yeah, but they still would have been rewarded for killing the xeno.

That not true at all. Marines of various chapters are expected to comport themselves in a manner befitting their station and the dignity of the chapter, especially when on the battlefield.

In Graham McNeill's Ultramarines books (they're not great, but they're about as interesting as the Ultrasmurfs can be), Captain Ventris breaks ranks to join a Deathwatch kill team on a direct attack on a Hive Ship. He kills the Norn Queen and saves the planet, but is stripped of his rank and banished from the chapter. Granted the Ultramarines have the biggest sticks in the world up their butts, but this shows that Space Marines aren't just rewarded for killing Xenos, there are rules to follow, and if you can't follow them then you'll be segregated or banished.

My problem with the fluff is you seem to have Dante alive at the time of the Horus Heresy... he's 1000 years old, not 10,000 years old

Keep up the good work with the painting

Hmm you're right i guess dante would be a little old. I suppose i'll have to think of something. I'll admit i've just been getting into the fluff lately so i'm not really up to date. The spirit of the chapter is the same though.

I wanted the paint scheme of this chapter to be a little more unkempt than what is normally seen with GW chapters. I prefered more dirt and grim to the crisp look they've given chapters throughout the years.

Nice freehand on the logos... er, iconography there!

And pssst- you'll probably want to fit the slogan "Where Eagles Dare" in on something that flies, be it a Stormraven or just an assault Marine.

Oh don't worry my friend, one of my favorite songs will be mentioned somewhere on a vehicle. You're probably right either a storm raven or assault marine. Gonna call my Baal predator Bloodfeast first i think. I ain't no goddamn sunovabitch.

I think liking punk music and knowing the Misfits are pretty much mutually exclusive.

Astorath the Grim might be a good option for your Chapter Master, if you just ignore the jump pack, rules-wise. He's even got Danzig's hair, albeit a post-Misfits Danzig.

It'd be trickier to pull off, but I'd prefer to see Astorath as Jerry Only. I'd do a head swap, as scrapping everything would likely be easier than trying to give him a decent looking haircut. Then black out the eyes, GS on a devilock, and convert the axe into an even deadlier looking bass.

He'd be holding it overhead, of course, but it's the best reference shot I could snag in 30 seconds. I'd also suggest keeping "Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight" queued up for whenever he enters play.

Too bad, really, that I can't think of a convenient way to swap out the chappy's skull mask for a head. It's not worth grinding out the whole thing, but I love the corpse paint instead of skull mask idea. I feel like something should be done to the sergeants of each squad to really drive the theme home. I'd keep their heads naked and either corpse paint them or GS on devilocks. I think devilocks would be the subtler (and better) option, by far, but I really want to see corpse paint somewhere in this army.

Oh, right. Good work, so far.

Actually i want to but with the shaved heads and my greenstuff skill being nil, i'm going to to that with the heads that have hair.

Yeah I was trying to think of how to incorporate the skull mask into the misfits but i think i might try something with lemartes in doing a stark black and white scheme to his mask.

You know what i like your idea actually, i might try it thanks for putting it into my head. I could GS a devilock on it pretty easy but the bass thing is probably beyond my skill, but i might try it for poops and giggles.

I tried to order astorath for my chaplain master but i was too late and got caught in the change from metal to resin thing. He's going to be flying over a pile of skulls because well, the misfits want your skulls right. Also he'd be perfect danzig with the long hair and a devilock will be pretty simple to do.
