I guess I literally cannot wait for the plastic Grey Knights to come out, so I'm making my own. I know they will be incinerated by the awesomeness of the new ones, but this is my favorite kind of work to do. Also, I search high and wide on the tubes for other people converting the GK and have found little to inspire me.

I got a box of assault marines from ebay and a set of 10 power swords. I started conversion on the sprue because I thought it would be easier to keep everything organized this way. The first thing I set out to do was the shoulders. The ones on the right need some parchment on them, which was easy.

The left shoulders need much more work: Slots cut into the bottom, book/sword motifs, and the raised guard.

Books and cuts. Now to outline the cuts with Green stuff

Great praises for you for doing this! There are some great GK conversions out there, but sadly not enough.

Doing detail work on the shoulder pads has always been a distant fascination for me and I gotta ask: do you use any magnifying tools when you're doing work like this? Not only are they so tiny but you've done several of them back-to-back.

I actually have not used any magnifying lenses. Doing this by hand is probably a little easier than you think.

Well, here is some more work on those left shoulders. Eventually I will need to add little swords on top of the books, add ammo belts going towards the storm bolters, and then clean everything up with files and a knife.

These are the heads. I have done this in the past, and basically all you need is to completely carve off the face of each marine (the more face you remove, the easier it is to do). Then you put some green stuff on, and press it with a flat blade. With extra sanding you merge the face plate onto the pieces on the side of the head. Later I will drill holes like on the real models.

That's a great start, good luck with the rest. For the raised edges to the top of the pauldrons you might be better to use a piece of plasticard, rather than greenstuff as you'll end up with a much smoother finish

ET, I have used plasticard for this purpose in the past, but this time I wanted to use green stuff. I will clean it up with a file and a knife, and I think it will come out nice. The plasticard is the obvious choice though.

I am afraid of the chests. They have lots of converting needed and I have done little chest work on the previous models I made. The purity seals are in short supply around here, but they are real easy to make. All in all it can't be that bad, but I have distracted myself with this making this mock up. Tell me what you think.

Lots of cutting and green stuff on the arms, repositioned the hands, will need a nemesis weapon and a stormbolter. Other than that, looks like he's gonna wreck someone's s***, right?

Neat. I think they look pretty darn good. My favorite part is the face/helmet. Good luck on the chests.

They look amazing.. are you going to do the holes on the helmet grill?

Thamor, you're goddamn right I'm going to drill holes in the faces. Also I like the avatar.

This is a termie from back in the day. Before you get excited about the psycannon arm, I bought that from GW. I also have a more recent picture where I did some work on his chest, I will find that later.

As you can see, this is more like what endtransmission was talking about with the plasticard. I also need to sculpt a hand around the spear, or really just the fingers. Hopefully easy stuff. It sure will be more sturdy than gluing onto the top and bottom of his fist.

I agree the helmets and should pads are great. I wish I could have like 50 of them just for my army...

Good luck with this! There have never been enough GK conversions for my liking and I sense a real winner here.

Here are the chests. They will look better when they are painted, and I might be able to smooth them down too. The idea is to have the armor grey and have these inlaid crescent parts gold with black or red designs/writing on them. All I need is the purity seals now.

Oh and here is that termie. He is coming along, I guess.

I am afraid the GK I just made is too Bad Ass. Like he wants to cut me in half. Hope the other ones are this good.

I guess the hands need a little work, and obviously we need blades on the weapon and bolters. Heretics, watch out!

Trust me If I had 50 bodies and the economy wasn't as bad. I would be all ears. But unfortunately I do not have that much money XD or do I want to at this time. It would be interesting to learn how you did it, as I am doing a christian knight theme.
But Yes that grey knight is really badass. And it looks really good. Can't wait to see these models finished.
Keep up the good Work.

I guess I just need the storm bolters.

Behold the purity seals!

Behold the nemesis weapons!

I made the armor/armour collars for everyone, except one guy I think. Not as hard as I thought, but they don't add anything to the model's look. I guess they look more like the metal models, but the point of conversion it to make something look good, not similar.

This is the justicar, because they always have swords instead of halberds.

Not actually a good picture, but showing off the seals.

This guy needs his fingers on the right hand, and a stormbolter. I want to put the ejecting shells on the bolter to look like he's blazing away, or even some muzzle flash. Anyone know if the stormbolters even give off shells?

Still my favorite

Gonna need a seal on the end on the weapon to look like he's swinging it

absolutely great.

Just think, if the new placcy GK suck then everyone will be in awe.

Personally I'm finding it difficult to find the inspiration to finish painting my metal GK with the new release just round the corner.

A bt of me is hoping the new minis are all awesome except the termies and PA.

I have read the "leaked codex" and personally think i is a fake. Here's why:

1. The point costs are not consistent across different units. This was pointed out by someone on hogs of war.

2. The codex perfectly matches all the rumors so far. Either the rumor mill is quite accurate, or someone rounded them up and "published" them.

3. The fluff. Reading through it you can see it's a first draft. Words are repeated in sentences, grammar mistakes, or it is just worded dumb. Why would these first drafts be layed out on the page with incomplete rules? I don't think the editors would ever need to see how it looks on the page when it is not even done?

4. This would not be difficult to fake. It looks good, but that just means they got the font right,

That last Grey Knight looks like he is shimmying or dancing or something. This is all great, I do have a question though. And it is probably very amateurish/newbish, but here it goes.

I notice a lot of left over plastic, like where one would trim mold lines, except the lines are frayed [i.e. the marine that is pointing forward with the halbspear, his clenched fist has bits of frayed plastic everywhere]. Is that just residue of trimming? Will that residue come off? Do you just wash it off?! Sorry if my question is unclear.

Good job, I shall return.

ED: Awesome quote in your sig btw, gruesome.

Well that last guy is getting some work done on his hand. The plastic was from where I cut the bolt pistol from his hand. I think I will greenstuff on a new thumb and pointer finger, pointing forwards.
And yes, that is the grey knight boogie

Great effort.

Almost on par with some of the new plastics imo.

However, I think with some more practice, you can impove.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Looking pretty good, but I would definately get some emery board and file the places you have shaved the models, as well as your GS work as it is quite rough and will show up through the paint.

You also need to get rid of the mould lines on the models themselves

One other thing I noticed, though I am not sure if it is really an issue, is that the skulls on the promels of various weapons are all facing different ways. Some are towards the front, others are towards the rear.

Wow, I thought about trying to do what you've achieved and seeing this its convinced me I don't have the skills with GS to get even half the way to what you've got here.

Nicely done, subscribed

Hey everyone: this project is a lot easier than you would think. I would never think I was good at green stuff until my friend made a grey knight with green stuff and I decided to try. It is not really hard and the level of detail here is a little higher than needed for table top play. Remember, with green stuff:

1. Patience pays

2. Use water! It makes the GS less sticky.

Battle Report: I played a 1000pt game at the GW store with the new codex. We were against the Chaos, and I have to say it was close. We were doing kill points and only because the 2 rhinos I wrecked did I win. Player of the game: Psycannons. Only range 24, but cannot beat 4 shots and st 7. Combat squads are bad for kill points, especially with thousand sons in the game. I like psybolt ammo, and really could have used the fast attack PAGK. When the game started going south my opponent began to retreat, because that's what traitors do. My grand Master chased down (through difficult terrain) the sole survivor of a plague marine squad and smote the mutha f@#$ER. That last kill point ended the game. GK win.

Here are some basic paint jobs. Obviously not done converting blades, bolters, hands, etc. These include guys I converted last year too.

Old school

New guys. Also I just noticed the O HAI guy in the background.

I guess they look alright. I don't like painting much, so basically trying to get it over with.

Well, done some more painting. Almost done, a few blokes still need their weapons. Looking forwards to getting a box of PAGK and using all the extra swords/halbers/falchion/big guns to make everyone look cool. Also, someone's getting a hammer.

Update: the plastic grey knights come with (after 5 normal guys with swords)
An extra set of shoulder pads
3 extra halbers
3 set of falcions
4 special weapons (2 psychic cannons, 1 silencer, 1 incinerator)
1 Matt Warding stave
1 Demon Hammer
2 extra unhelmed heads
1 extra front torso!
5 teleport back packs
3 extra storm bolters
And a total of 24 arms and 6 extra hands.

What the f do I need to convert guys for? There are enough bitz in here to last a lifetime.

This is the A team, the guys you know from before.

This is the B team, still look alright.

This is the C team (and one extra A team guy)
