Ok so given the lack of blood chalices for our SPs and the fact that there is only 1 plastic apothecary arm and all my attempts at following the tutorials to make the exsanguinator have failed I decided to make blood chalices instead and I was pleased with the result so thought I'd post my own tutorial on how to do it.

Ok firstly you will need; Glue (plastic cement and super), a short length of 1mm pinning material for example a bit of paperclip, a pin vice with 1mm drill bit and the usual model tidying stuff like a craft knife and file.

You will also need the following common space marine/blood angel parts; a chainsword arm, a meltabomb and a hand flamer.



ok step one is to cut the bottom off the meltabomb just above the lower rim, this will become the cup part of our chalice



step 2 cut the tank off the hand flamer including the stub where it attaches to the flamer, like so:



then cut the lower part of the tank away just below the first rim this will be the base of our chalice as seen here pictured next to the meltabomb/cup



Then you need to prep the chainsword arm by cutting the blade and hand guard away, all you need to leave is a small stub below the fist to attach the base of the chalice to.



now we can assemble the cup, the base is just stuck on with plastic cement as i think that should hold it well enough and pinning something so small would be a pain, the cup however needs pinning as though it were floating anbout 1mm above the fist like so.



NB: at this point i also decided to shorten the stub on the underside of the fist as it made the grip of the cup look out of proportion with the rest of the cup

here you can see the chalice on a finished marine, all that needs foing is green stuffing around the base of the cup where the dowl attaches it to the fist, I will post pics of this once I have this done, (gonna do a bulk load of greenstuffing later on )



hope this gives people some ideas or helps add some variety to our sanguinary priests.

very simple to do and looks nice when completed. I hate working with metal so if i ever decide to make a plastic sanguinary priest, you can guarantee ill be back.

Yeah it does a little looks a bit better now I've green stuffed it, couldnt find anything bigger than the lower hald of a meltabomb though, if anyone thinks of anything better please suggest it below.

Here we go slightly less Dumbell like, excuse my shoddy abillity with greenstuff i didnt realise how bad it was til i saw the picture blown up on my screen :p

I really like this idea, though I think it would look a lot less like dumbbells if you drilled into the top of the chalice portion, thus making it more like a cup.

Yeah I intend to but dont have the right sized drill bit atm my old 2mm one is blunt as hell after i ruined it mounting some models on slate bases, I dont wanna risk ruining the cup by pushing too hard so it will have to wait til i get a new drill bit.

Great use of everyday BA items to make a much covetted item!!

Have you thought about making a cast of the space hulk chalice too? Probably a frowned on idea from GW, but it gets the job done. Nice little conversion though, looks better with the green stuff bulking it out a bit. And I agree with using a Dremel to bore out a hole and/or fill it with something to look like blood. Maybe add some icons on the side too.

hmm yeah my small scale sculpting sucks but i do have some 1mm glass beads i could embed. Im a little better at free hand so i will probably paint some gemstones on or something

The space hulk one looks awesome but its kinda too big to be carried by a sanguiniary priest.
