Warplord Titan Princeps of Tzeentch
|
I think that starting a blog might actually get me motivated to start doing some painting.
First off, I got a Daemon Prince and I wasn't happy with the model. I really like the "bird/dragon" head on the Lord of Change, so I figured I'd try to do something like that.
I looked around, and found the High Elf Lord on Dragon model comes with not just one, but two different heads (one armored, one not) so I put out a post on the forums looking for either one (preferably unarmored).
User Jeff Tracy was kind enough to provide me the head in question, so I sawed off the 'stump' on the DP neck (dragon head has a square base) and plopped the head on. It's a little oversized, but not terrible. A little putty to close up the holes and start to fix the neck, and I have the attached.
Tomorrow I plan on sanding and possibly re-applying putty if needed, still debating whether I should glue the wings on before I prime/paint.

Nice conversion, iv thought of customizing a tzeentch demon prince as well and I agree the gw model is very good but not enough options to represent the 4 chaos gods

I'd order some Gryphon wing bits for the wings to keep the feathery Tzeentch look.

Fire breath, definitely.
And maybe, depending on how much you embrace the Tzeentch random changing mutation chaos aspect, perhaps one feathered wing and one leathery one.

I agree with powerslave84 the Gryphon wings from the Island of Blood Set would look so much better than the ones you get in the DP kit and there are plenty of them on Ebay.

I like the gryphon wing Idea aswell but I ordered some for a similar conversion and found them to be quite small

Very interesting, though I believe it would have benefitted from using the neck stump in place with the size of the head you are using...
if you are looking to go all out, are you equipping it with a staff? scrolls?
How will you base it?

Are they smaller than the wings provided with the Daemon Prince? If so, that kind of sucks.
Also, I saw GW has wing bits available, but I assume they're all metal parts, which would seriously compromise the balance on the model.

In my opinion, the neck stump jutted too far out. It made him look like some sort of hideous parody of a bodybuilder.
I'm not going to add a staff, but I am considering adding a book from the Terminator Lord sprue (on his belt).
As for basing, most of my army is just a basic base painted green. Maybe I should do something more interesting on this one.

That they do, I've got a set of lord of change wings on my DP and it needs a quite substantial lump of lead under the base just to keep it upright.
Looks good though.

I did take others' advice, and I am working on some trades for Griffon wings (Isle of Blood set).
I also saw a great conversion using the Griffon legs and head for a Daemon Prince. Since I have an extra torso front, pair of wings, and arms, it shouldn't be (too) hard to convert up a second Daemon Prince, just have to GS a back.
DP 1: Dragon head + feathered wings
DP 2: Griffon head, legs + leather wings
Will post pics of the 'surgery' if/when I get the models.

Finally got my High Elf Prince on Griffon (thanks to user Blood Angel!)
Here's all the pieces:
I dry-fit the model, and let me say, it's truly a marvelous sculpt. The design and fit of the parts is well done, and the model itself is exceptional.
That said, I need to chop this baby up. Plan:
Old DP (above) gets the feathered wings.
New DP gets a Griffon head, griffon legs, and leather wings from the DP set.
Step 1: Spot glue the griffon in one piece to make cutting easier (I used a modeling saw)
Step 2: Cut off legs and head. I also chopped off the fore legs, they're a nice looking bit.
Step 3: Shaped the legs a little better. Here they are next to the Daemon Prince body I'm going to use.
Had to greenstuff a back for the prince, hopefully I will have some more results tomorrow as that sets.

Got some time last night. Still working on figuring out a good way to mount the DP wings to prince #2. Note to anyone doing this in the future:
Use the original back for the guy you want to have Daemon Prince wings.
Anyway, here's a few quick shots of Prince #1:
Will post updates of Prince #2 in a few. Automatically Appended Next Post: First, here's a picture of all the parts that I'm going to use laid out. As described before:
DP wings, DP chest, griffon head, griffon legs, and a tabard from the DP kit. Back will be greenstuff.
And a closeup of the head & chest put together. I cut back the head a bit more and cut off the DP neck. As with #1, I didn't want him to look like a parody of a bodybuilder.
Texturing on the GS was done with the side of my hobby knife. I was impressed at how it turned out (since I'm not that great at sculpting).
The plan for tonight/tomorrow is to get the back finished and possibly attach the legs.
Still debating if I should include the griffon tail. It's not detailed at all, but would add a little extra to the model. I could also add a forked section to the end of the tail, or try to add scales/plates and end it in a scorpion barb. Hmm.
Finally, thanks to those who suggested the feathered wings on DP#1. The wings are much closer to the head in scale than the original DP wings.

A quick update.
Finished greenstuffing the back and did a quick positioning of the legs. They can still be adjusted, but I actually like how they're arranged.
Plan for the weekend is to fill in the gap between his legs, add the tabard, and attach the arms. I'm thinking I'll have to pin the wings in place.
Anyway:

I feel like the first one should have had more neck to it, the model looks strange with the head just there, ends up reminding me of a crocodile. The Griffon wings are a lot larger than I expected them to be on the model.
But the Eagle headed one is made of pure win.

I sort of agree on the neck. But it's far too late to change now, plus, I think it makes it look more natural. Also, I really don't like the Lord of Change's spindly neck.
TyraelVladinhurst wrote:i like this prince... now make Magnus
I am not even sure where to start.
Primarch Magnus would be about Daemon Prince scale, so how big would DP Magnus be?
Also, thoughts on a tail? You can see the Griffon's tail in this picture:
And IMO, it's not very exciting. No spikes, nothing. Should I leave the model tailless, add the tail as is, or try to sculpt some sort of texture/detail on it?

I really like the second Daemon Prince, namely because it looks like an egyptian god or somesuch. The use of the lion legs really helps, and makes it look dead masculine.

I think the eagle head looks great on that torso, however, I think the arms look far too bulky for the model, especially with such delicate legs.
