Not much to say about it without a good picture, but it appears you've got the basics of basing and a decent colour scheme.
Keep at it man.

Try placing the model alittle farther away, and if possible, get some more light on it. Other than that, I really like the purple, really makes the model stand out, would almost like to see some of it on his shield

I am not having a go at the guy putting this thread up personally but does everyone else get absolutely sick of people putting up pictures that are blurred and basically useless and then asking everyones opinion? Its such a waste of time. If you want our opinion then put something on worthy of us being able to tell whats good and bad. Sorry to rant but my god I do get sick of this sort of thing

I know what you mean man, but there's also the excitement of the first mini, desperate to get it seen by as many people as possible and wanting as much feedback as they can give!

Although, yeah, your camera sucks and there's not much we can say about the paintwork, it's cool that you attempted a conversion on your first model! I find it almost impossible to make a model without some kind of conversion...*looks at collection*...let's make that "completely impossible".

Sorry but his camera does not suck. It has clearly focused on the Embossed GW emblem on the carry case just fine.

I am always eager to see everyones first attempt. It reminds me so much of when I first started out and I wish that there were things like this around when I first began as I would have been able to improve so much faster had I had a forum to go to.

Learn to focus on something people. Wilmor 19 give it another try and we can have a good look at what seems to be a really nice first attempt

So true, so true. When in doubt, Badab black wash/drybrush original color. Contrast is king and black goes with everything.

Moderator Frazzled

We have very few rules on Dakka all essentially flowing around the concept of "don't be a dick." However, most of the moderators jealously guard the sanctity of the modeling forums.
To whit:
1. Focus on the minis or thread itself
2. Polite constructive criticism is a positive. Flaming or banal commentary are not acceptable and will be jumped on by the moderators like a weiner dog on a piece of cake.

So, in an effort not to cry havoc and let slip the weiner dogs of war and going berserk on some of the posters discussing their hatred of bad photos (well, er duh!!!) I'll just leave it here. But consider this a public warning to all on this thread and Modelling forums.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Moderator Frazzled correcting his typo.
What he really meant to see, besides Frazzled Mod is Bestest Mod! is that he clearly sees the correctness of discussion about the minis themselves and is in complete agreement, that he really didn't mean to see if Frazzled would auto ban him, and that of course Weiner Dogs Superior Squirrels Inferior.

If you wish to tap dance in the mine field further PMing might be better...but you might think about it first.

Wilmor 19

Just had a look at your gallery, I can see clearly your just starting out on your road of wargaming, please do not take my mini rant earlier in anyway personally and I definately do not mean to discourage you.

Firstly your models are coming out a little scrappy, I can not tell if your making that paint to thin and its spreading or just being a little careless with brush. I would advise getting a thinner brush which will allow you to be a bit more precise.

Also your colours are looking quite flat. I take it your doing either very subtle highlights or none at all. I would advise you to get into using inks/washes. They are great for people starting out as not only do they give you a good basic highlight by allowing the darker inks into all the gaps but they teach you over time where you should be putting your highlights, eventually you will grow out of using them and rely on a steady blend of lightly thinned paints applied in several coats.

Keep up the good work and look forward to watching you progress. Your journey will be long arduous and frustrating (least of all for having to put up with grump old men such as myself) but it will be highly rewarding

If your going to do something wrong, do it right!!!!

and lukewilde thanks for the tips il try and read up on highlightning and some other techniques but honestly im just trying to paint these to a low/mid tabletop standard

Definitely up to table top standard.

Agreed on the tabletop standard. These models are very crisp and clean. There must be another section of the Imperium we haven't seen yet, probably the Adeptus Lauandus (Laundry in latin with the i removed and a us added).

The sternguards look really good, but I think either highlights, a nice wash, or drybrushing would look really good on their cloaks. Personally I would probably use a wash considering I myself cannot even accomplish a decent highlight

On a side note: I like the power fist on the sternguard. His bright shiny red nails must be the blood of his enemies
