For two days the Order of Faith combs planet Arx’s dessert searching for the traitorous Dark Angels 1st Company who were caught making deals with Mortarion, the fallen Primarch and leader of Death Guard. However, the Dark Angels 1st Company proved elusive and so far had escaped detection. Canoness Dianus was frustrated with her force’s slow progress and ordered them to split up to cover more ground.

.....

A Rhino buckles as it crests a sand dune. Veteran Sister Alexiel idly stares at her auspex, wishing for a signal from her commander, that they had finally found their quarry. Another lurch from the transport almost made Alexiel regurgitate her morning meal. Queasy from the bumpy ride, Alexiel push past her fellow Battle Sisters seated on the Rhino’s benches and walk towards the Rhino’s rear-top hatch. The pops open the hatch and stick her head outside. A gush of cool air fills Alexiel’s lungs and clears her head. She sighs in relief and gazes toward the eastern horizon, admiring the landscape’s rugged beauty.

Over the loud engine roars, Alexiel hears a low whistle growing louder. Alexiel looks up just in time to see the trailing jet plumes following two missiles heading straight towards her vehicle. “Ambush,” she screams, “everyone brace for impact!” Both missiles slam into the Rhino’s front, knocking Alexiel off her feat. The access door leading the driver’s cockpit explodes sending flames and shrapnel flying into the passenger compartment. Smoke quickly fills the enclosed space. Alexiel quickly hits the emergency escape button, releasing side and rear doors. She and her Sisters stumble out of their Rhino. Four seconds later, the Rhino explodes, spewing a cloud of black smoke into the air.

“Is everyone all right?” asks Alexiel.

“Our two drivers didn’t make it,” informs Sister Katarina.

“Send word for reinforcements,” commands Alexiel. “These heretics will have a taste of our burning faith and fire.”

Spoiler:
Game result: Victory for Dark Angels!

Afterthoughts:

Spoiler:
My army consists of 17 kill points while my opponent has 8 kill points. The guy running the tournament either has a personal vendetta against me or thought it would be hilarious to have the player with the most kill points (me) play against the player with the fewest kill points. To say the least, I didn’t find it funny when the match ups were announced. There were other players who won the first round that would have been more even against the Doublewing list in Annihilation. My army isn’t one of them.

The game result was determined before a single die was rolled. Terminators protected by 3++ and armed with Cyclone Missile Launchers supported by 2 Ravenwing Squads with 2 Meltaguns easily crushed my light AV semi-MSU army. Even in my attempt at playing denial, I still lost. Cyclone Missile Launchers have a large range and are great at popping Rhinos. On top of that, the table I was playing on lacks tall terrain. Annihilation is the bane of Sisters.

.....

Another rocket careens into an Immolator, engulfing it in a ball of flame. The volatile promethium tanks combust, causing a second explosion. Plumes of smoke rises in the air, signaling another casualty.

“Frak! We lost another vehicle,” yell Canoness Dianus.

Veteran Sister Alexiel winced. Hearing her commander swear wasn’t a good sign. Dianus was usually cool-headed and never betrayed her emotions unless in times of peril.

A steady barrage of missiles fired from the distance by the infamous Deathwing Terminators pinned down the Order of Faith. Advancing on foot proved equally difficult. Veteran Sister Tristana had valiantly lead her Seraphims toward the enemy’s gun lines, but her squad immediately received heavy fire and suffered heavy casualties. For now the rest of the Sisters dug in while the Exorcist engines return fire.

.....

‘That’s strange,’ thought Alexiel, ‘the missile barrage has stopped.’

“What?!” Dianus scream into her vox, “the traitors want to parley? How dare they look down on us! It’s not over yet. We…”

The air suddenly crackles with energy. A loud snap teleports Seven Terminators instantly in front of the Canoness. Surrounding Sisters alarm by the sudden arrival immediately turn their weapons towards the Terminators.

One lone Terminator in black armor steps forward and raise a seal. “With this Inquisitorial Seal, I demand you all stand down this instant!” yell the figure.

Shock ripples across the Sisters. Their sense of duty overrode their command and they cautiously obey by lowering their weapons.

“What is the meaning of this?” ask Dianus, “We have hard evidence that the Dark Angels 1st Company were in league with Traitor Legionnaires.”

The Inquisitor locks his steely cold eyes on the Canoness. “Whatever the Inner Circle does is confidential. For now, they are under my protection and any threat to them is a threat to my office as well as yours.”

Dianus moves forward and gets a closer look at the Inquisitor’s seal. Her eyes widen in disbelief as she recognizes the inlaid symbols. It was an Inquisitor Ordo Hereticus seal, similar to the one use by her friend and ally, Inquisitor Lord Antonio.

“I also request all evidence of the Dark Angels 1st Company be destroyed,” commands the Inquisitor.

Dianus clench her fist and glares back at the Inquisitor. “It shall be done,” she angrily reply.”

That's a tough loss to a hard looking army. Looks like you were plagued by poor rolls for exorcist missiles as well as reserves.

I always enjoy your batreps, btw.

Ouch. Tough loss. Unfortunately in tournaments, it's all about the matchups. That was just a bad matchup for you.

I actually played against the same opponent in an earlier tournament. He brought almost the same exact list, except instead of 2 bike squads, he had 1 squad and Sammael. I killed more terminators in that game but only ended up with 2KP's. Luckily for me, he was only able to get 2KP's off of my nids as well as he kept trying to get the easy KP's by targeting my termagants....and I just went-to-ground with them in terrain. I only beat him because there was a secondary objective of Seize Ground and I had more objectives than him.

Then in the very next mission, the objective was Kill Points....but troops don't count. I felt sorry for his opponent as Lance only had 2KP's to give (his 2 HQ's, everything else was troops).

Ah, that sucks. I was hoping you would win but sadly not, lol. Do you think anything would have changed if you kept most of your army out of reserve instead?

Anyway, reading your reports is always a blast.

Thanks a lot for the feedback folks!

I had two options. Play denial and hope I make enough cover saves or go balls to the wall and drive forward. I decided to play it safe. I also let my opponent deploy first so that I could place my units in the safest spot. Throughout the entire game the top right Terminator unit was in range to shoot anything. However, my cover saves for my vehicles were below average and the Dark Angel player was making 90% of his storm shield saves. Overall it was a bad match with worst mission and worst deployment. Had it been Spearhead, Dawn of War, or objective, I might have had a chance.

Sisters just are not mobile enough to take down an entire Doublewing army like that one. They cannot deploy in any kind of nonlinear fashion and really they need to Divine Guidance with multiple squads to eat a Terminator squad. Add on to it the terminators are fearless and it is a recipe for disaster.

I think Table Quarters would have helped a ton in this one to force him to bunch up a bit more, but as I see it you couldn't have done it much better. It is a shame there is really no true LoS blocking terrain in there.

Unlucky SabrX :-(

Horrible match up but that's what the game is about. At least you tried to give them a run for their money.

Can't believe that Termy squad only lost 1 from 3 Exorcists. I use 3 and people STILL groan about it but you do have those off days. I'd say if you did that first turn shooting any other day of the week you would have killed all of them or at least 3/4.

I've only played about 5/6 games with my new Sisters army and even though they are old and expensive (points wise) I'm doing really well with them! To my opponents surprise.

They are also really expensive $$ wise as well.

My biggest gripe is they are a bit plain overall and they really get smashed by a SW player. I played one game where I lost 6 transports turn 1 to immobilizations or destroyed results. It was game over from there...

I normally don't have problems against SW (even with 3x Long Fangs). There have been a few games I lost because of Annihilation Mission games against jy2 and Reecius.
