The Stormlord datasheet and the Rapid Insertion Force rules are teased (in small format).

Ah, so only the Plasma Rifle (or its replacement option) can fire 4 times.
Still, they're still able to fire their IAs twice which saddens me...

Assuming it's three Riptide Units, you could open the battle by firing 18 Ion Accerator Shots and if in range for them, a further 36 plasma rifle shots.
Make the rest of your 2000 point army that drone formation made up of marker drones.

For the people seen this (where is it anyway? can't find it on black lib)-does rapid insertion has anything that helps them...RAPIDLY INSERT? (as in, forget no scatter, but actually early DS rather than rolling like a scrub?)

2 of these formations and a couple of the drone formations (make all the drones markerlight drones) WILL DESTROY ANYTHING (They may stuggle with AV14, But the volume of hits make up for it)
No assurance the drone formation is a thing. (unless you saw it on the preview somehow?)
And besides the point, the riptide wing is a RIPTIDE formation. the R'varna is not a riptide. you cannot use them in the formation.

Yeah, several drone formation rules in the glossary.
Relevant ones are:
Every unit in the formation gets split fire (handy for marker drones), outflank, jink, precision shots and interceptor.
Every drone in your army, regardless of if they're actually in the formation or not, get +1BS.
As long as one drone from the formation is alive, place 1d3 marker tokens anywhere you like.

The formation's only special rule is Locked Coordinates.
You deploy the Stealth suits, the rest has to come via Deepstrike reserve. Crisis and Riptides from this formation who decide to ds within 6" of the stealth suits dont scatter and have TL weapons in the ensuing shooting phase. Nothing else afaik by reading the glossar and the preview.

For those confused about the way the 4 shot rule is written the only weapons firing 4 times would be the secondary weapon (plasma, fusion, or sms). Not the ion accelerator or the heavy burst cannon.

Bu-whaaa? finally the balizion of drones gathered by every tau player unwillingly are no longer useless!
Can you post a picture of that one please?

Only that? can't be right. a stealth team can buy a 6" no-scatter item that works for everything anyhow, if that's the only thing it brings, the formation is utterly useless. (not that the Steam will EVER survive till a decent amount of suits will drop if you can't at least grantee their drop. but maybe the big formation gives that bonus anyway, so they combo up? even then, not much use. a small bubble of TL is all the real gain, beause as said-and stealth team can get no-scatter-bubble. and not a formation specific one.)

Yes, lets get this clear before over rage starts.
Its still rather brutal to be able to double-tap with a riptide spam for a T1 alpha strike, but its not THAT level of brokenness.

It's not utterly useless from a list building flexibility perspective, which is the genuinely important part of formations. I could see myself using it if I didn't feel like bringing a commander, or wanted more stealth suits deployed as compared to the retaliation version.

After seeing the rule though I'm still sad, just not as sad as I was earlier...

Better leaks.
Farsight can take Retalliation Cadre as a core, and has a really weak yet fluffy detachment bonus, which I'm thankful for because it means I might actually choose to use it unlike the vague, argued over but horribly powerful one the vanilla Tau get.

As predicted the Riptide wing was the best of them, some people bring three Riptides anyways and this is just more value. I think your going to want farsight as the core of a hunter contingent and not this one. It's soooo niche.
Nice to see the aux formations can be taken be either super formation.

Really? You think the Riptide wing is the "best of them"?
Yeah. Let's ignore the Broadside and Pathfinder formation which doubles Markerlight hits and grants Infiltrate and Shrouded to Pathfinders, alongside of the Broadsides being able to Supporting Fire for the Pathfinders from anywhere.
Let's ignore the Ghostkeel Wing, which grants Stealth to any unit within 12" of two or more Ghostkeel units--and if the unit already has Stealth, it grants Shrouded as well.
Let's ignore the Drone formation, which puts them at +1 BS as long as two units are still alive. Oh and it grants the Drones Jink, Outflank, Precision Shots, Interceptor, and Split Fire.
There's far better stuff than just the Riptide Wing in here.

The book is entitled Mont'ka. In the current Tau world, that's basically synonymous with Farsight's methods. Did you really think he wouldn't get a Detachment? In the last book, Shadowsun got a Decurion as did the White Scars and Raven Guard. I'm assuming the Cadians WILL get a Decurion.

Anyway, the strongest formation is the Pirhana one.
Because you can jetisson your drones, fire all your seekers, enter ongoing reserves and come back the next turn with all drones and seekers back.
So you get 448 points of drones and 32 Seeker Missiles per turn.

In the last book, Tau Empire got their Codex updated. That's not the same as Shadowsun getting a Detachment.
Additionally, the product description for Mont'ka is this:
Eleven new Formations for Codex: Tau Empire;
New Detachment and Farsight Enclaves Tactical objectives;
Eight Lords of War and ten Formations for Codex: Astra Militarum;
Full rules for the Officio Assassinorum Assassins, including the Execution Force Formation
They specifically call out Farsight as having a Detachment, but no mention of Guard. Formations only are listed there.
Additionally? This Detachment is a joke. The same thing could have been achieved by adding The Eight as a Command choice and having had the Retaliation Cadre as a Core formation to begin with.

Fair enough. I haven't really been paying attention as I don't care much for the Astra Militarum.
Isn't the rumour mill saying that they'll be getting a new Codex in a couple of months? An updated Decurion now would be pointless as it would either lessen the value of a future Codex or become invalidated almost immediately. A bunch of new Formations are always useful.
Patience, my Imperial friends.

Misread slightly: You enter ongoing reserves at the end of your movement phase.
So actually, it's take 16 bare bones pirhanas, and have them duck on and off the board generating 32 drones per turn. Earn back more than their points in two turns.

IF you're a book that has the unique Detachments to begin with. Formations are grand in that regard, but otherwise it becomes fairly unwieldy.
Additionally, this is a good opportunity for them to genuinely make Cadians a unique thing. They're selling Cadian Datacards, there's Cadian relics in this book...
So why not give us a Cadian Detachment, then the actual Codex can be a "generic" Guard force.
Patience, my Imperial friends.
Screw patience, I want my shinies now!

Eh, The Hunter Contingent is still way better imo. None of the formations here really stand out to me. Most of the buffs require 2 of the 3 units in the formation to be very close to each other or lean toward very large formations.

You should reread some of those.
For example, the Ghostkeel Wing:
It's not beneficial at all to the Formation. It benefits the rest of your army. So you can be throwing Stealth onto a Riptide Wing, or with some clever placement and this formation:
Oh look. Pathfinders with Stealth, Shrouded, and Infiltrate granted to them.
And seriously, the Pathfinders are literally just there to grant Markerlight Counters! The second they use anything aside from their Markerlights or move, they lose Shrouded.

This is just another knee jerk reaction. What you are saying is so situational. You ghost keel are not going to be anywhere near your riptides/pathfinders. Ghost keel have 18" range so need to be near the enemy. Riptides are on the back of your deployment zone.
