Well, there's also the Fire Caste dragging the average down.

If we assume that most Shas'La are deployed as teenagers in human terms, and take the fact that most Crisis teams served together as Fire Warriors... Take into account the standard 6 or 12 man squad sizes of Fire Warriors and 3 man squad size of crisis as any indication... Between 50 and 75% of Fire Caste die before the age of 20.

Gotta take young deaths into account when skewing an average.

NATURAL lifespan of about 40 years.
Farsight has his life extended by the dawn blade.
Shadowsun was in suspended animation.

It's been 250 years to the rest of the galaxy, not to them.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Nah. I got them off the facebook group. I was so busy playing Fallout 4 that I missed them, and they were 15 hours old by the time I posted them to Dakka, ATT, and B&C.

Despite my murderous hatred of Shadowsun, and well, the fact that Farsight is too badass for earthly concepts such as "cold" and "warm", that's adorable.

It was during a training exercise when they were young. And yes, it could easily be nothing at all.

Wasn't saying that their lifespans were normal, just that there's a statistical skew to the 40 figure.

if we go by that and the fact that he is already over 300 by the time fleet gorgon hit vior'los, he must had at least a bit over 50 by then

I just realized that despite being a member of an "upstart race", that Farsight is older than the majority of living Space Marines. He was training with Puretide before they were born.

Well, puretide lived to 80, so natural lifespan my be longer. And one of the eight who is an earth caste genius is keeping himself alive via nano-bots, and is almost as old as farsight.

Ehhh.

It's probably going to be varying based upon the Chapter, rank, etc. A Captain from a Chapter like the Raven Guard might easily be centuries old given their aversion to "fair fights".

It's also heavily implied that his modified Riptide help keeps him alive.

No, it's nanobots. Still not a naturally long life, but it is keeping him alive. He didn't even have the riptide originally, he just took it over remotely after the person piloting it got fried.

Do we have a page in this thread where the rules for Mont'ka are discussed?

Deus Ex Machina fellas, anyone lives for however long the story wants them too lol. Hilarious that you guys are acting like GW won't write any excuse needed to continue the characters plot. When it comes to fluff, don't ever apply logic.

Eleven formations and a detachment, nice.

Less nice: One of the formations is a "Riptide Wing" consisting of three Riptide units going by the preorder page for a riptide wing.

Meaning it's entirely possible now to do a riptide only army. Bound.

Gathering the Informations.

So the Tau formations(only ones that are really listed at the moment):
Ranged Support Cadre--Three units of Pathfinders and three Broadside suits.
Counterstrike Cadre--Three units of Fire Warriors(either Breachers or Strike Teams) and a unit of Pathfinders.
Riptide Wing--Three Riptides.
Rapid Insertion Force--9 Crisis Suits, a Stealth Team, and Riptide
The Eight--...Farsight and Friends

They removed the notice from the "Rapid Insertion Force" description, which is interesting, but left it on the Emperor's Shield Infantry Platoon.
So that leaves five Formation slots open, with five having gone to the Tau already.

Clearly states it's eleven tau formations.

And the Counterstrike Cadre is one of those web exclusive page things.

So it does! I missed that part.

Just so we're clear:
Counterstrike Cadre
Tidewall-Counterstrike Cadre
They're basically the same thing, but the Tidewall version has its own unique rules.

Eleven new Formations for Codex: Tau Empire;
New Detachment and Farsight Enclaves Tactical objectives;
Eight Lords of War and ten Formations for Codex: Astra Militarum;
Full rules for the Officio Assassinorum Assassins, including the Execution Force Formation

Unless they misplaced the "New Detachment" part, it looks like no new Detachment for Guard.

From a sidebar in the fluff section of the codex (Page 16) I feel might be relevant now:

Other Cadres

Many cadre designations exist:

Ranged Support Cadre

Pirhana Firestream Wing

Ghostkeel Wing

Skysweep Missile Defence

Drone Net VX1-0

Riptide Wing

Ranged Support Cadre and Riptide Wing at least are confirmed; they're listed on the NZ preorders and the blurb mentions that it's a formation.

Assuming those remaining four become Formations, that leaves 2 as of yet "unknown".

Drones as a formation would be sweet- It'd let me streamline my army concept to not need conventional troops.

I bet the Riptide wing will be the strongest of the "auxiliary" style formations found in this book.

I wonder if auxiliary cadres can be taken by either super formation. Assuming we get another super formation for FSE.

The little ones? Can't do. Closest thing is OSC.

Gamgee wrote:I wonder if auxiliary cadres can be taken by either super formation. Assuming we get another super formation for FSE.

While that would be awesome, I hardly think it'll happen. Hunter Contingent is pretty close to Kauyon, while the one in Mont'ka book won't. Or, as you said, they could just repeat HCont, what would be pretty meh.

At least I'll be free of those sucky aircraft formations.

Any news regarding Forge World FAQ and the new codex?

Welp, Now we know Riptide wings consisting of R'Varnas will wipe tornaments
Decurion? DEAD
Cheese Eldar? DEAD
Tau Stormsurge abuse? DEAD

2 of these formations and a couple of the drone formations (make all the drones markerlight drones) WILL DESTROY ANYTHING (They may stuggle with AV14, But the volume of hits make up for it)

I emailed FW about a week ago regarding FW riptides and new Tau formations, They replied saying a FAQ was coming out but in the meantime they see no problem using a FW riptide in one of the new formations (but ask your opponent first)

There already is a drone fromation in the Tau codex, Its the cheapest 'Auxilary' Formation if you want to get a cheap hunter contingent

Referring to an actual formation though, which is a much bigger deal.
