Hey Dakkadakka, I was brainstorming an army long ago(Original thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/316088.page). It took me a while to get started, but eventually I acquired all the parts. I did several test runs and finally came up with a few things that I liked. So here you go:

Fluff:

++Official Records of the Imperium++
++Recording Officer: High Inquisitor Maranixis++
Due to the new and changing demands of today’s soliders of the Imperium, the brightest minds on Terra have deemed it wise, prudent, and nessicarry to approve the creation of a new strike team to combat the new terrors facing us today. This Strike Team will be split into two separate groups each designed for different areas of combat. Information follows here:

A Company: Lead by Captain Cyrus, this company is responsible for prolonged guerilla combat in urban environments where more heavily armored units would be unable to function at maximum efficiency. Comprising largely of light armor units(LAUs) supported by specialty attack teams. Light Air Armor support. Supported by Librarian Thanatos.

B Company: Lead by Master Artaxshasa, this company is responsible for sudden strike attacks usually on enemy hard points or commanders. Comprising mostly of Tactical Dreadnought Armor Units supported by fast attack teams. Intergrated Assassin, Callsign: Bone-Dust. Supported by Combat Specialist Hephaestus.

All members of this new task force are drawn from the small desert planet of Huiaxta in the deep west sector of the Imperium. From here they are boarded onto their ship, “The Eyes of Ishtar” for training and bio-augmenting. They will never return to their planet.

The personal mission of this new task force is to locate and destroy any force they see as a direct threat to the Emperor. This has no limits and the team has been given permission to engage loyalist forces if it is deemed that they might be heretical. The task force is never to interact with any other force of the Imperium and during bio-restructing all the mouths of this task force are chemically welded shut. This insures that a member will never give up vital information to the enemy if captured. The company communicates via advanced HUD units wired into the spine of each member.

This new task force is to be called the Magistrate and they are to judge our enemies harshly.

The Emperor Protects!
++END RECORDING++

In normal words: This is a two part army made up of Codex Space Marines(1750pts) and Grey Knights(1750pts). The SM army is made up largely of scouts and fast attack style units and is heavily converted/modified. The GK army is made up largely of Termies and has some fun little specialty units. These are not designed to be ‘gamey’ armies, but I do hope that they do alright on the table. Currently, a decent portion of the SM army is constructed and all but two Land Speeders are bought. The GK army has been ordered, but I won’t be getting started on them for a little while. Lots of brain storming to finish on them.
So, without further words: Here is some of the Magistrate.

Sternguard: Made up of normal marine parts with Forgeworld heads.

#1

#2. I like to call this guy Hero as he is blasting away despite his injuries.

Dreadnought:

No real conversion work here, just a fun base design and an odd faceplate.

Land Speeder:

Again, not much conversion work here, just the heads. I left the back open for now. Not sure if I will add the Scouts later.

Captain Cyrus:

Painting has just started on him. Just one or two layers. I just wanted to get a basic feel for him and right now I'm playing with some highlights for the dark blue. Sorry its a little fuzzy.

Very fuzzy. I'll get better pictures when I have time.

I’ll be adding more pictures in the next few days. Painting is still in design for the most part.
I’ll post both armies points list next time. C+C is appreciated, but a lot of this is all but written in stone.

More fluff information and MANY more pictures to follow.

Why no replies Dakkadakka? Does it suck that much?

Updates for anyone who might be looking at this:

A slightly less fuzzy image of the captain WIP:

Another Sternguard. I'll be putting up all of them together soon.

Two of many Scouts:

Librarian that is very much WIP. All kinds of stuff still needed. The original idea for this guy came from somewhere on Dakkadakka I think....either that or CMON.

Okay, so I think thats all I have for today. Finishing up the sternguard tonight and then the Vanguard after that.

Please give your two cents.

Nifty Sternguard I really like the kneeling guy. Don't worry too much about the lack of replys its normal.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

There are two guys kneeling. Well, one is kneeling and the other one is more propped up firing full auto.

UPDATE: I had some free time today so I finished up the Sternguard and a few scouts.

Sternguard #4. He was the first guy to get a basic basecoat. Not even close to finished.

Sternguard Sarge.

Sternguard all together.

MOAR scouts:

Not super happy with the guy on the left. Looks like he is gonna fall over. Also, you will note that they don't have gun barrel and that their scopes have been removed. That is because they are being converted over to boltgun wielding scouts with camo cloaks.

Tell me what ya think.

You're posing on the sternguard are very cool. I'm not sure how i feel about the scouts. The guy laying down in particular seems odd, almost as if he is looking for a quarter he dropped rather than laying down to snipe someone. The bolter scouts however could be interesting, I would like to see them when they're done

Yea, don't let it bother you too much about the lack of replies- I've been on yours two, three times? And only now had time/material to post.

I like the bases (plaster?)- I'm excited to see your minis totally painted.

But I have to agree with ChronoTrigger- that snipe scout looks almost like he tripped or is on the way down after getting hit. Something about the pose is awkward.

UPDATE: As you might be gathering at this point, I have A LOT of free time this week, and that doesn't happen often so I took the time wisely and worked a ton on the Space Marine portion of the Army. I have all the scouts on their bases and most of the snipers just need some basing and they will be set. The bolter scouts however, will be taking a bit longer and I expect them to be basecoated by the end of next week. Also, I will be picking up my Grey Knights this weekend. Or at least a group of Termies and a group of Interceptors. Hopefully a lot more than that.

Primed the Sternguard and Dreadnought with flat black a few moments ago, and I'm gonna start painting them either tonight or tomorrow depending on how tired from training I am(I am a Semi-Pro Thai boxer. That's right. Geeks can fight too. ).

I managed to grab the last Vindicare Assassin at the local store as I guess they are no longer stocking metal for either resin or direct order. So, that was good luck. Also, I started work on the Vanguard Vets that I am converting over from some Assault Marines. They look sharp, and I think you guys are gonna like them a lot, but they won'y be uploaded until tomorrow. Today you guys get some fluff. And lots of Scouts.

Older Combat Fluff:

Chazmog da ‘Eadeta stomped through the rubble of downed buildings toward the nearest group of Nobz he could lay eyes on. He was mad. He had a reason to be. One of these numbskulls had failed the attack on the humies. It was so simple. All they had to do was run and shoot, something even the dumbest Ork could manage.
‘Oi!’ Chazmog bellowed, which, of course, was the universal word for a head smashing. The Nobz nearby looked up and would have certainly been afraid if they weren’t so stupid. Chazmog quickened his pace and stomped up to the crew of Nobz. Although they were all massive by Ork standard Chazmog towered over them all. He was the biggest. Leader of a 2 million Ork Waaagh. The humies didn’t even have close to enough men to stop him. They even had the Supa’ Humies to help, but power klaws saw to it that they were of little problem.
As Chazmog opened his maw to scream at the nearest Nob his face was suddenly showered with a warm liquid. And it tasted good. Slightly confused Chazmog glanced around. One of the Nobz had no head. Blood everywhere. That was odd. Suddenly Chazmog’s head snapped back and it felt as though he had been struck in the head by a Trukk. Damn that hurt. He was bleeding. Odd. Suddenly the silhouettes of the ruined buildings lit up with bolter fire and the ground around Chazmog and the Nobz began to explode as bolter rounds slammed into the concrete. Several Nobz went down instantly as the massive Heavy Bolter rounds hit home. Chazmog turned and bellowed for the nearest group of boyz to get in on the fight. Just as he turned to face his hidden assailants he was hit again, this time in the arm. Anger shot into Chazmog’s veins and he bellowed his challenge as he sprinted for the nearest ruin. As he was nearly inside the doorway suddenly the ground under Chazmog lifted him into the air with a massive explosion of rapid arms fire. As he was flung through the air he saw the sky vehicles the Supa’ Humies used. Land Speaders or something like that if he recalled correctly. Chazmog crashed down onto a slab of concrete and his great bulk smashed completely through. Dizzy Chazmog struggled to his feet. Or rather his foot. One was gone. Cut clean off by the assault cannon. Unfazed, Chazmog limped his way back toward the fray. The sky was filled with the vehicles. They spit fire down into Chazmog’s carefully planned defenses and supply crates. Explosions followed in their wake.
Chazmog neared the closest ruin and as he did he spotted a humie crouched over a rubble pile next to an I-beam. Gleefully roaring Chazmog closed in on the humie. Suddenly his ears were filled with a roaring sound of engines and a Supa’ Humie landed in front of Chazmog wielding a bloodied chainsword. Chazmog jabbed out at the Supa Humie with his power klaw, but the man ducked under the attack. The Supa’ Humie then slashed deep into Chazmog’s arm. Bellowing in anger, Chazmog swung with his other hand and smashed into the side of the humie with a massive hook, sending the Supa’ Humie flying. Another humie landed next to Chazmog. This one was bigger. And had long blades protruding from his hands. Chazmog swung again, and the humie spun under the swing while slashing deeply into Chazmog’s stomach. As Chazmog bent over from the surprise of the attack, the humie slipped back to the outside of Chazmog’s guard and brought a bladed hand crashing through Chazmog’s spinal column and severed his neck.

----------------------------------------------

Captain Cyrus glanced down at the now headless Waaagh Boss. He had been hard to kill, but now that he was dead hopefully the Waaagh would disband and countless human lives will have been saved. It was a shame no would know of his valor. But that was the payment for being part of The Magistrate.

Group shots of the Scouts. As you can see, the ones on the left have no barrels or scopes. They are being converted into bolters.

My counts as Telion(at least for now. He is nothing Special, but I don't want to spend more $$)

Hey DakkaDakka!

Sorry about that delay. I said I was gonna upload updates a week ago and I'm just now getting to it. Thats how busy my job can get in a split second.

Anyhow, you guys don't want to here me go on and on, you want pictures. So have some all the Vanguard. Almost set for priming.

Vanguard Sarge:

Note the backpack.

Vanguard #2

Vanguard #3. He is lifting off, not sure if I will add jump pack smoke when the model is done. That might look alright.

Vanguard #4

Also, I forgot to claim this set of photos as my own. Is there a way I can list them as my creation?

Coming up: My Land Speeder Rhino conversion and many Grey Knights. They won't be converted really, just a interesting color-scheme. I'm thinking Flesh Tearers right now.

Very cool. The jump pack Captain looks AWESOME. One thing I wonder is if you can get the Librarian's storm bolter to look a little bit more incorporated into his arm. At the moment it seems to be a bit long for his arm and sticks out a bit. Otherwise, very cool use of a variety of bits, and a characterful army!

The Land Speeder Tsunami. For the Magistrate LAU forces, conventional vehicles such as Rhinos and Razorbacks are not a reliable option in the rough urban terrain that the Magistrate often find themselves in for years at a time. However, the need to transport larger forces of scouts to better attack positions could not be ignored and so it was that the Imperium commissioned a small amount of Land Speeder Tsunamis to be built. Although much larger and more armoured than their smaller counterparts, they suffer from much lower speeds and the ability to fly high. They skim a few feet in the air, just high enough off the ground to avoid rubble and bypass some anti-tank mines(Although magnetic mines will still catch the speeder).

Land Speeder Tsunami:

On the table, this will count as either a Rhino or Razorback(once I make some weapons platforms).

Very WIP. As of right now, I have some valkyrie engines to go on some standing platforms that will be going of the side. Also, I have been working on some armour plating for the front and side. Don't worry about the weird pieces of plasticard stuck on. That will get covered up later. Not sure how I feel about that Storm Bolter. Ideas for this piece is in High Demand, so tell me all kinds of Ideas DakkaDakka.

Very interesting idea with the Speeder. My suggestions (if your taking them) start with the driver. Something about how his head sits (from the veiw I can see) a little high.
As for the weapon, your right, ditch the storm bolter. What I would think would look cool is the Pintle Gun from the Leman Russ tank or IG Auto Cannons. What came to mind was the old Veit Nam Huey's and the Door gunners (now that I am thinking about it, I know what I'm going to do for some guards I have, heh).
I'd also get rid of the smoke launcher on the back side, it looks a little out of place to me.
The Hunter-Killer on the underside is as well placed as I could possibly think of.
Last suggstion (for now, haha) is a Co-Pilot. Normally I kow that would be a gunner, but in this case I would place a co-pilot in that position then build the armor screens in front of both pilots.

Points wise, it would be about the cost of a Razorback I think, how ever it would be Open Topped and still have the armor value of the Speeders. Being Open Topped (if I remember my rules correctly) at certain speeds, the passengers can shoot in addition to the Speeders weapons.

So there are advantags to this and as always disadvantages. Otherwise, good idea. I like it. I'm swiping it for my marines!

Life, Liberty and the Persuit of all who threaten it.

I'm actually thinking of using it as a counts as: Rhino without the H.Bolter turret and/or a Razorback with magnetic H.Bolters.

I see what you mean about that head. I was designing armour screens(you can see the glue damage), but scrapped them for re-design. I'm thinking that I will move the SB to the front of the vehicle that is intergrated into the hull.

Looong Fluff Update. Gonna be trying to finish up the painting on the Sternguard today.

Taraxes felt a sneeze coming quickly through his nose and turned to the side before quickly stiffeling it. Thanking his luck, he turned back to the scope of his rifle braced against a pile of rubble in the building. He had been here at least 3 days he thought. He quickly directed his thoughts to his interface unit and the exact time since deployment appeared in the bottom right corner of his HUD. 80 hours. The target should be approaching anytime now. Taraxes directed his attention back down his scope. Vividly displayed was the corner of a rundown building and the street corner. He could see the rubble piles where the other teams had placed the mines at earlier in the operation. Last week they had engaged the traitor guardsmen 7 blocks away with little success. Intel had a come in a high confidence reading that the lightly protected supply caravan would be passing by this intersection.

Suddenly, his HUD flashed various symbols indicating advance team had spotted something. 3 Chimeras and many ammo and supply trucks were rolling up the eastern sector of the trap. He directed his thoughts back to his interface unit to display a confirmation on the information. He could not speak, as his mouth was chemically welded shut upon admission, but all members directed orders and ‘spoke’ via interfacing units embedded in their spine and connected to their HUDs. It was received like an idea, that appeared in your mind, but with a distinct signature of the sender. All of them had a unique style of transaction. Brother Warrior Urnaila always had extravagant transactions with vivid colors and many symbols whereas head of the Light Armor Units (LAUs), Sergeant Major Kipheston had very simple and exact transactions.

Warning lighting screamed onto Taraxes HUD and his screen went automatically into a blended light refraction and infrared mode. In the building across the street 5 body signatures were spotted. Taraxes knew they were Friendlys. It was C team with Sergeant Major Kipheston. His HUD started scrolling different transactions and information started flooding Taraxes mind. Anyone not trained would have instantly broken down from the intense amount data flowing into their mind. Firing targets from B team shot onto the HUD but the hold fire issued by Sergeant Major Kipheston held firm. Suddenly Taraxes saw the first of the Chimeras round the corner of the block and suddenly halt only a dozen meters from the mine trap. The top-hatch opened and traitor guardsmen popped out, binoculars in hand. Without even looking into them, the guardsman suddenly slammed his fist several times into the top of the Chimera and the back door slowly opened up to deploy men. This was unexpected and Taraxes HUD had fallen mostly silent as all units reallocated targets. Taraxes shifted his scope to the newly emerging guardsmen. He caught onto what appeared to be a commissar and sent his target transaction to the others. These guardsmen were sloppy, they weren’t covering their angles and the commissar was blatantly out in the open. Count-down to fire orders flashed in from the Sergeant Major and Taraxes adjusted his sights one last time. 5….4…..3…..2…1. Taraxes squeezed the trigger and he felt the rifle start to kick back. For the Magistrate. For the Emperor.

Thanks to everyone and keep those C+C coming please! Sternguard next.

Theyre very nice man.

You need to thin your paints, especially with the highlights and the White.

The best way too apply white is instead of going for one thick layer, layer it up from Grey with very thin layers of white. this way you will get a smooth finish, and a sense of depth in the cloth.

I actually did 5 layers of very thin white, but then I stupidly added very thin black to create a shade. Terrible idea. Also, I am not good with my whites at all. Currently trying to find a good thickness for the sternguard. Still keeps coming out chalky.

Thanks for the advice on the highlights too.

Sternguard are all painted up. Well, kinda. I'm not done with the blood and I need to touch up some stuff on the bases, but other than that they are done.

Also, I am gonna redo the eyes because they look TERRIBLE.

DAKKADAKKA, I need your ideas!

As you may have read, this is a two part army, with the second half being Grey Knights(That will be painted Red and (insert-yet-to-be-determined color)). ANYHOW, I need ideas for my Grand Master. I want something really cool, but I have looked all over the internet for a really impressive Grey Knight Grand Master. I've found a few that are interesting, and I might do one of those, but I want you guys to throw some ideas my way. It can be some weird cyborg idea or something really regal. Just gimmie conversion ideas! Poses, concepts, models, all are welcome.

C+C please!!

Current idea for the GK army color:

UPDATE.

Finished some Scout Snipers. They aren't as well painted as the Sternguard or Captain, but thats alright because there is a lot of them (25 total).

I'll be uploading some Grey Knights that I built soon. Maybe later tonight if I get the time. Things are pretty busy right now.

Please comment and give some pointers.
