Hi all

I'm still mooching along with my Starcraft 2 themed Deathwing army and have bumped into something pollable! For my counts-as close combat terminator squad with TLLCs I am planning on fielding some Zealots that I've whomped up based on an ultra-awesome idea from Proiteus. I was planning on just attaching the stealthsuit pads, but now that I've actually tried it I'm not that keen on the look. They are a bit rectangular and they are hard to fit on the new arm-torso interface. So my question is, what is the best solution to my dilemma?

None:

The Stealthsuit pads:

Or some custom pads made from trimmed plasticard tube:

As you can see with that picture, they dont really come out, they slop down to cover the upper forearms, with a slight half crescent shaped decoration on it. Maybe a little tricky, but it would look good.

I think it's definitely going to have to be custom, but I like the smaller shoulder line on the model. Something like winnertakesall posted. I'm not sure, but you might be able to get close to that with a cut down SM shoulder pad.

If all else fails, I think the model looks really good without pads, more agile and quick.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I shall continue to ponder.

A double curved shoulder pad might work, but I will have to check availability Unfortunately I appear to have thrown away the mangled Marine pads I used for the Terminator visors. Turns out they might have been useful after all.

@The Good Green - The problem with agility is that these guys are still supposed to be terminators I need to add bulk wherever I can!

I've done the below image to suggest something alternate. Why not carve the end off those very long pads (see the black line) and make them armour for the biceps instead (see blue lines). Then you still have the bulk but closer to the "zealot" look you're going for but without the "I'm a character from Total Recall or Blade Runner who needs enormous shoulder pads to suggest a capacity for deviousness and violence" vibe. *EDIT* the idea is to make the shoulderpads look more scalloped. You can even round down the edges of the bicep pads to make it look more zealotlike and carve little spikes out of plasticard and have them sticking up from the ends.

Oh, as an added comment, I LOVE the forearm blades. Phenomenal.

If you cut the stealthsuit pads right down the middle (front to back), and just used the half with the sloped side it would look closer the picture winnertakesall posted.

Why not shave off the trim and otherwise modify generic space marine shoulder pads?

You should have 1 squad of the stelth suit pads and 1 with the custom.

menoth: 134pts "burn heretics, BURN!"

OK, so progress and thanks to all for the added encouragement!

@Shadow-Chaplain - The prototype pads are a little large its true. I've done some slightly shorter ones for the production model

@Grass4Hopper - The problem with the stealthsuit pads is that they are rather narrow and don't fit over the shoulders well at all. However as you can hopefully see below I've managed to use them a bit at least to get a hint of recurve

@Naravus - I tried a couple of tests using Marine pads as well and couldn't easily come up with something that I liked so dropped that project.

Thanks for the feedback all. I now have come to the conclusion that I like the custom pads best, but possibly with some further modification (note that the pads might look a bit wonky, but I haven't glued them down yet):

Base version:

And the modified version with the stealthsuit pad parts added:

I've also added in the ringy things that go over the Zealot shoulders. I now realise (after having done most of the pads for the whole squad) that they should terminate in the torso armour front and back, but stuff that for a game of soldiers! I will probably GS in some kind of termination on the pads themselves.
