So i'd start there and branch out

Somewhere in south-central England.

The GW book about making terrain has lots of good advice and ideas.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I would start with pen/pencil and papaer and do some draing of what you want to achieve. Try to figure out how to build what you want before you start. I know that sounds really stupid insulting advice but if you have a think about how to build you (whatever) before you start the end results will turn out all the better.

Why not try experimenting with other people's plans and instructions, this would allow you to build up your assembly skills while you think about the constructions?

Hmmm strange i got a blip on my troll auspex...

Anyways look around your house for any materials you think you can use. Pick an item, then search your bitz box. Use as many of the bitz as possibly so that object looks like it would belong in the game system you're playing.

If you live in the US. Hobby town sells two products. One called Plastistruct and the other is plats... crap i cant remember. but they sell them side by side. It's like a tiny construction materials store for 25mm minis. I know this may sound wierd but i'll post a pic of what i've created with it to show you what i mean. It really gives your GW ruined buildings that kick ass 3d feeling they lack.

I assume you're talking about Plastruct and Evergreen, the two major manufacturers of polystyrene sheet, rod, and architectural forms for scale modelers. If so, then that's rock solid advice. Rod, tube, I-/H-beams, and textured sheets really open up terrain building, when buildings are what you're after. To save money, you can frequently find "for sale" signs at Walmart, home improvement stores, etc. made from the same material for significantly less money. Granted, you don't have as much control over the thickness, but it's great for skinning foam(-core) and general detailing, when a specific thickness or pattern isn't required.

1.) Release the caps lock.
2.) 40k or Fantasy? Imperial or not? Cheap or expensive? Bought or all self made? Beginner or expert?

With these basics we can work. BTW there are many good companies doing good terrain.

Thanks Cadbren! I picked up three Imperial Sectors then thought to my self... what the hell do i build with all this! lol. I want to combine the Imperial Schrine with two of the strong holds to make it into a Fortress then the bridge will be a "Gateway" into the fortress. :-)
