I need some color scheme ideas that don't follow the dreary black armor + (your choice of highlight color). Thanks!

I did my army in a tan, blue, gold and black, but my friend asked to paint a model, he came up with the watermelon warrior.

I have purple as my base colour, with shoulder guards / weapon sections in gold. I've tried a couple of different painting methods just using these colours,I think my favourite was definitely painting each armour segment in one colour (ie, alternating purple on one, then gold, the purple etc) I'll try to get some pics up soon to show you what I mean

I painted mine in a blue and bone scheme, defies the conventional scheme and still looks somewhat unsettling. You can view the pictures on my P and M blog in my signature!

Incidentally, have you thought about a background story for your army? I didn't until I got my wyches, at which point I started painting hair and loin cloths, fabrics etc in light green as I saw it that these were dyed using the poisons or combat drugs that they were using at the time. Kinda added a pretty cool theme that translates across the army well, and the colour compliments my theme nice enough.

Best bet is to look at colour schemes used in other armies / games and try out whatever you like. Don't forget taht you could take inspiration from the 'light' eldar too, maybe reverse oneof the colours used by the craftworlds and play on them being the corrupted version of that craftworld for instance

My Dark Eldar is basically painted with Folk Art's Metallic Blue Sapphire and Metallic Sequin Black. Trim in red and skin is codex grey because I treat the DE as spiritual cousins to D&D's Drow. And that's where I get my painting inspiration from regarding them.

Something like the Harlequin / Death Jester look from the Eldar - bright circus-style colours and patterns mixed with skulls and big nasty weapons. Could suit a 'black humour' style cabal.

I settled on a fairly unconventional turquoise scheme that I think works quite well. Took a lot of trial and error!

Warm off-white and brass.
You may also need a secondary non-metal color but I'm sure anything that isn't too vivid would work, maybe a rich brown, dark green, desaturated dark violet, or wine red?

Here's the thing: you linked pictures of dark eldar that are in the top 1% of all painting as far as hobby painting is concerned. There is a reason so many dark eldar armies follow the edge highlighting scheme: it is fairly easy to follow and the results look decent.

If you want a non-traditional scheme, try a halved or quartered scheme. But, I'll caution you that what you think will work on a kabalite warrior may not necessarily work on a raider or venom.

Also, you can use the edge highlighting scheme with a non-black base color. You may want to check out Les Bursley's "Last Hatred" and "Obsidian Rose" painint videos.

Personally I went with what I felt was a more 'classic' Dark Eldar / Dark Elves inspired colour scheme of purples and silvers with ice blue highlights.

I wanted something truly alien, it's inspired by the creepy sounding 'old ones' from 'at the mountains of madness' by H.P. Lovecraft.
