It has been awhile since my presence has graced the hallowed forums of Dak, but ive been incredibly busy. Since the last time I have posted, I finally finished the first wave of my Blood Angels army and am done painting them. Groups photos of my work will be on Dak shortly. It is time to start production on the 2nd of 5 army's I plan to own -- the Eldar. I wanted to DIY my Eldar because I have never been satisfied by any of the color schemes from GW. I am in the process of completing my first guardian squad and wanted to share my progress. I think my Craftworld will be called Teil-Shan and they have blue colors blended to green. I am very anxious to get all of my ideas down in paint as I will start my avenger squad after this. I cant wait to share my work an progress with the Dak community, but for now I give you a small sample of whats to come.

I would appreciate some suggestions though concerning the eye color for my Guardians. I have narrowed down the colors to either purple or red. I decided not to go with green or blue for obvious reasons of having the eyes disappear into the rest of the models colors. I think red will really make the eyes stand out, but I want to try and keep the eye color consistent throughout my army (all figures have same eye color). So red eyes could be a problem when I come to paint my Fire Dragons. That why I thought purple would work (especially with the green and eventually the scorpions). Any thoughts?

I wanted to give the Eldar a very ancient feel and the aged stones/ruins depict that well. Eventually, the bases will have a nice mixture of moss and scorched static grass as I picture this group doing recon somewhere in a dense forest

Initial prototype. Just trying to figure out the color scheme and see how well the two colors blend

Decided to change the color of the base armor and go with something a little less industrial looking

[Thumb - P1020870.JPG]
The helmets will eventually be a blended blue/green medley as well

I like the color as well. Seems a little different yet not totally not eldar if that makes sense.

Element, those are solid. It's a refreshing take on an eldar color scheme. Have you thought about doing a golden yellow or orange approach to the eyes? Are they going to be the same color as the gems all over them and their vehicles?

Thanks for all the comments. The spirit stones on the Guardians have already been painted on the chest...ive done a mixture of green and blue gems. The eyes will be a totally different color and the more I think of it, the more I like the purple idea.

Just an update for everyone, my first guardian squad is nearly complete. With 5 more helmets to finish blending I should have them done in the next few days. I anxiously wanted to show what the finished xenos are going to look like though. Below are some pics of the completed guardians. The bases didnt turn out exactly how I envisioned them, but all the colors came together well and I think it looks pretty good. I am most disappointed with the amount of time it took to finish these guys. I was pretty sure that I picked a simple color scheme and intentionally wanted to so I could knock these dudes out quick....unfortunately that wasnt the case.

As soon as im done its on to some Avengers, a Warwalker, and the gun platform for this finished squad.

Comments and criticism is welcomed, enjoy the pics!

Love the blue to green blend looks splendid. The pale grey/off white is very nicely achieved too and really makes the colours pop. Nice basing too. I've been wanting to try out something like this for a while so hope you don't mind me asking, Do you have a transition colour to help? Is it wet-blended or just feathered?

Thank you for the compliments.

I experimented with both wet blending and feathering; the color transition is the result of using both. There is actually a color I mixed during the progression up to the green that I wish I would have stayed with as the final green color, but I only realized this after about 10 of them were completed and didnt have the energy to go back and amend each Guardian. With the exception of Ultramarine Blue, every color was mixed but I stuck with the same 5 colors throughout the process. This is my template for blending these exact colors:

-Ultramarine Blue
-2:1 Ultramarine/Enchanted Blue
-1:1 Ultra/Enchanted
-1:2 Ultra/Enchanted
-Pure Enchanted Blue
-1:1:1 mix of Enchanted Blue/Snot Green/Ice Blue (transition color)
- cont adding Snot Green and blending up to pure Snot Green
-1:2 Scorpion Green/Snot Green
-1:1 Scorpion/Snot
-2:1 Scorpion/Snot

The highlights were also done with the same colors, except I added sunburst yellow to Scorpion green to get a tennis ball color.

Good luck with your blending and look for pictures of my Avengers soon!

Unusual color pallet, but it works. I think the only thing that would help is to increase the contrast in the shading. General rule of thumb is; the smaller the scale, the higher the contrast.

This is definitely a concept that I am trying to integrate into my work. The problem is, that I work close up on all my projects, so from that perspective the contrast looks great, but when I put them on the table top, all of that seems to disappear. I think that a high contrast ruins the model when you look at it closely....its just a work in progress for me I suppose. thanks for the advice though.

Np, trying using a really dark purple, maybe even mix a little black in, and use that to shade and blend with, I think it would go good with the gray/green.

Refreshing color scheme, looks really nice. I'm subscribing to your thread, & will check back regularly to see your progress. If you get a chance, please check out my P&M blog - started with Ulthwe scheme last December, and have nearly 4K points painted. Too late for me to change the scheme. Would love to get your opinion on how to finish up my Wraithguard - am taking a poll before finishing the squad this weekend. Thanks, and keep up the great work!
