First off I just wanted to say thanks for the feedback I did recieve on my last post, I found it rather helpful. Now, this is my first assault terminator Ive ever painted. Im not finished with him just yet, I want to touch up his black armor and I was wondering if I should go over the highlights again. They seemed way too "look at me!!!" so i washed them with Badab Black and it dulled em down. Any helpful tips or tricks to make his mighty Thunder hammer look more mighty would be greatly appreciated as well.

Highlights look great imho.

However, I would go over the red on his shield again to make it pop, as is it looks a bit dull to me (might be the photo).

Also, some more detailing on the hammer would be cool (and remove the mould line )

Overall it looks great, a really menacing BT.

Your highlights are great, but you NEED to trim down those mold lines. The one on the thunder hammer is driving me crazy! I'd also like to see the skull on the Crux terminatus on his knee to be painted in white or bone; black blends in too much with the armor. Black Templars often have white shoulderpads with a black Maltese Cross on them, but I can't see the other side of his shoulder to see if you put a white one there. Finally, basing this model will take it above and beyond. You've done a great job here, you just need a little longer to do some finishing touches. Good work!

Nice job on the highlighting, really makes the black look good! It's not the easiest thing in the world to do, either.
I would agree with all the other points, the shield in particular would look great with another coat, and the white touches are really what make the Black Templar shine. Are you going to put a name or anything on the scrollwork on the chest and shield? Little details like that really make the model come alive when viewed alone. Use a micron pen and it's really easy.

Great job so far!

Awesome feedback! Thanks. Yeah the mold line slipped through my clean up process, I got my whole 8 Man Assault Terminator built and primed yesterday so I mustve over looked it. The shield cross is base color Scab Red with Blood Red highlights. Ill see if I have a better pic of him to upload. I was getting scared though because the red started to look WAAAY too thick.
Any Suggestions for my Thunder Hammer?

Here is a different angle with his shield showing.

In my opinion you can hit that red again. As it is it looks great, the dull red fits the overall dark and somber paintjob, but my personal preference is really strong vibrant reds.

I'll echo others who said to try basing it. Although I prefer to base mine before I paint them, and usually build up bases, you can still make a decent one at this stage. It will really help your figure look good. People sometimes don't appreciate how much some good basing helps with the overall look of the model.

But as for the model itself, making the red on the shield more vibrant, picking out more details in solid white and doing... something... to the hammer will make it turn out better!

Just wanted to let you know I got your post on my first black templar commander page. You should check this post out " improved lighting claw marshal" . Made some minor changes to him. When I get to my computer I will post on here again with a step by step on my lighting claws that you liked and some time soon I might do a blog on the same technique for thunderhammers. Still great highlighting on the black armor really tough to do and I think you nailed it.

I went home yesterday and fixed the mold lines and did a simple flocking on a painted base and even something as simple as that really brought the model together. Im going to brighten up that red tonight when I get off work and Ill post another pic. If anyone can point me towards a good Thunder Hammer tutorial it would be greatly appreciated, I attempted a few different things but ended up using a 50/50 Chaos black/boltgun metal base and highlighted with chainmail to keep the model looking clean cut. Thanks again for all the tips, I think this 8 Man Assault Squad is going to look good when Im done thanks to all the feedback.

offhand...what color did you use for the highlighting?

Great highlighting! Some people start with a very dark grey basecoat ink it (wash it) with black to darken it down and create more complex shading, then highlight as normal. You can be quite extreme with black when highlighting it - to an extent - so long as you don't go too heavy with the paint strokes. In fact, try to keep the paint strokes as minimal and as fine a possible - pretty much what you've done here (which is fantastic). As an alternative to dark grey, try a dark blue, such as Necron Abyss mixed with Chaos Black.

Don't do a white pad with a black cross...oh please oh please don't do that. A terminator is not an innitiate he is sword brethren. They have a different shoulder pad scheme. Its a black pad with a red outline and a red cross. Anyway in addition to that I would brighten that red up a little bit as it is too dark. I saw a good TH tutorial on here a week or so ago. If I can find it I'll link it here.

Yeah like that. I guess BT termies don't outline the pad in red but the rest applies.
