Does anyone know a good line for free standing trees? I have some of the DIY Woodland Scenics that just did not turn out right. Admittedly, though, it was my first go at DIY trees. I made several area sections for marshes or wooded areas, and wanted to add non-permanent trees mainly for aesthetics. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I vouch for ALL of them.

There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

These are pricy but they are about my personal favorite trees I have ever come across.

There is a 'cartoony' look to them which is why I love them.

Also, for a cheap option, since Christmas is coming up walmart should have some in a month or two. Last year I bought a bunch of cheap pine trees (like 50 cents apiece) that looked pretty good. They had some with snow and some without snow and I they were like 3" and 8" tall.

Realistic full grown trees in that scale would be 50cm/20" high, so most model trees are much too small (and fragile). I use prepainted trees by Schleich (Baobab for 40k, Acacia/Oak/Fir for Fantasy). Earlier I used 30cm high fir trees by playmobil as proxies.

Kroothawk is a genius if you can find the items by Schleich and Playmobil in your area.

Fortunately, I can find them around here since I also need some good sturdy trees. Dimensions for the Schleich trees are listed on each webpage. Be warned: These are LARGE trees!

Here are pics for the curious:

Schleich Trees

Baobab: http://www.schleich-s.com/en/action_figure/collectables/product_range/world_of_nature/wild_life/wild_life_plants_and_trees/african_baobab/index.html

Acacia: http://www.schleich-s.com/en/action_figure/collectables/product_range/world_of_nature/wild_life/wild_life_plants_and_trees/umbrella_acacia/index.html

Oak: ?? I couldn't find this one but Schleich has several other trees and a hedgerow.

Fir (small): http://www.schleich-s.com/en/action_figure/collectables/product_range/world_of_nature/wild_life/wild_life_plants_and_trees/fir_small/index.html

Fir (large): http://www.schleich-s.com/en/action_figure/collectables/product_range/world_of_nature/wild_life/wild_life_plants_and_trees/fir_large/index.html

Playmobil Trees

Pine: http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=7725&cgid=

Deciduous: http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=7632&cgid=

Leafy: http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=7889&cgid=

A company called Ziterdes (http://www.ziterdes.de/ziterdes/en/produkte/listview.php?catID=70&subcatID=77) also sells some premade trees but these are just as fragile as Woodland Scenics.

That's the large Fir tree, which is over a foot tall.

I rather like one of the companies that Grot 6 posted: http://www.miniaturetree.com/

Their 4-6 inch and 6-8 inch tall trees look durable and relatively inexpensive. A few bags of 12-24 trees ought to be enough for my collection, along with a few of GW's trees and my poor, shedding Woodland Scenics.

Oak and Baobab are OOP, so be quick if you want them.
Playmobil also has some small acacias and some small old big trunk deciduous trees.
Sometimes you find big realistical painted trees in pre-school educational toys. Got a nice jungle base and 50cm jungle tree made from wood there. Can't find anything like that currently, but to get you an idea, here something a bit in that direction:

If you have tolerant gamers, some Gormiti trees might also be usable:

BTW here some of the Playmobil and Schleich trees in action:

I think I'll settle for just two of those Baobabs from Schleich. Thanks for the heads up about them and the fact that the Baobab is OOP.

You know...this kind of makes me want to invest in "fake" scenery. Like have trees, crates, barrels, etc. etc. be flat cardboard cut outs, kind of give it a little big planet look. Would be pretty funny methinks.

I just use model railway trees.

Bag of 100 trees by Heki.

It's a "forest in a bag" so you get trees from 2" tall to 5 1/2" tall.

I make my stands of woods with removable trees (the trees are glued to bases. The bases slot into holes on the base the same size (or little bit larger). That way both 40k and fantasy can use them (trees come out for tray movement).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Pictures! Show us pictures!

And it's odd that I can find a bag of 100 trees for less than $30 USD online but Heki lists them at 198 Euros (approximately $250 USD) in their online catalog. Are there different assortments?

Both my camera and my terrain is currently in storage while we have our house renovated - so I can access neither at this point.

I only have this pic of the size and appearance of the trees at the moment.

photobucket is playing sillybuggers at the moment, it seems.

The bases I used for them were just the rounds cut from the woods base with my spade bit (25mm rounds) - waste not want not.
