Let me start by saying I have a very short attention span, unbelievably short. If my current task doesn't occupy my brain 100% then my mind will drift onto other things and I will lose focus and interest in what I was doing before. Now that that is out of the way, the following should make a lot more sense!

My idea for this army started from flicking through the various SM codices and Chapter Lexicanum/40kWiki pages and being completely unable to decide on one Chapter/Ruleset to follow. I had a fair number (~1k points) of Blood Angel Marines mostly assembled but unpainted just chilling out and not really capturing my attention long enough for me to finish them. I sort of wanted to create a Chapter for them, but had no idea where to start.
Then I stumbled upon the Soul Drinkers, and damn these guys rocked. Yeah they got punted out of the Imperium for slaughtering Mechanicus troops in order to steal a sweet spear, and got physically corrupted by a Chaos God, but like tremendous badasses they carried on fighting Chaos [/i]with their Chaos mutated bodies[/i] and gave the Imperium the middle finger.
God damn.
Then I clicked the ExCommunicate Traitoris link. I came across the Relictors, dudes who pick up possessed Daemonic weapons left lying around and then duel Chaos Lords and Daemons with their very own handheld flaming, howling, Daemon prisons. Then the Lamenters, then the Mantis Warriors, and then finally the Raptors who despite being Loyalists were just too badass to pass up.
From here I came up with the idea of a Blood Angels splinter Chapter, thought lost/non-existant, who split from the Imperium after their homeworld underwent an Exterminatus. They travel around space in a Space Hulk like Space Hobos, picking up abandoned, lost, and left for dead Marines to join their fight against Chaos, and the Tyrants to whom the Imperium turns a blind eye.

Now, I thought this was a kickin' idea for an army, but I went one step, no two steps further. Each Chapter's Marines would represent a specialist unit within the full army (1.5-2k points). Lamenters would be my Assaults/Vanguards, Soul Drinkers my Melta Sternguards, Relictors would be Daemon-Weapon wielding 'Sang Guard' (counts-as), Raptors- Scout Snipers etc etc.
But wait, even in a 2k point army there isn't enough space to fit all of these formidable vagabonds!
So I took that extra step and started writing up army lists for each Chapter from my 2k list, roughly 750-1k points of stupidly fun elite units with very distinct tactics. Each list would be led by a suitable 'Chapter Master' counts-as from the SM codex or the IA books. When needed only a select few from each Chapter would be chosen to form a 1.5-2k army to take on the most numerous and deadliest of foes.

TLDR; Roughly 500-1k points each of-
Raptors


Relictors


Lamenters


Soul Drinkers


Mantis Warriors


With backup/support/fillers from the Angels Covenent, BA successors/splinter Chapter.


Unfortunately I can't find the correct armour-patterns/cannot be bothered to mock-up the actual armour that each Chapter will utilise so you will all have to wait for the first models to be assembled to see them.
Now, each Chapter leader will be a custom scratch-build minature in Terminator armour as unique as the GW Chapter Masters. When leading their Chapter into battle they will count-as certain SM CMs in order to give each individual army it's own playstyle. Raptors for example will utilise Shrike's rules when being fielded by themselves, Mantis Warriors may use Pedro's rules for their Chapter leader to simulate the small, elite units that comprise the Mantis Chapter.
Each Chapter leader, when being used in a 1.5k-2k list will be formed into a Terminator Assault Squad in order to represent the leaders of the five Chapters banding together under the command of the Angels. Obviously my Angels commander would be attached to the Termi squad. Now I am going to work.

Now that I am back from work I will skip the rest of the writing I had planned out, because feth it all you want is pretty pictures. Unforunately all I can provide is the second half; pictures.

First off is a WIP mock-up of my Raptors Terminator Captain. He will have a mohawk dammit, it just hasn't turned up yet. I have a stupidly large Bits&Kits order inbound with all sorts of bells and whistles for these guys to bring out that 'uniqeness' I am looking for.

Furioso Librarian mock-up in what I like to call 'Real Tactical Dreadnought Armour'. This is my only real over the top ridiculous unit for all of the Chapters, I just couldn't help myself. Imagine a Librarian minus arms and legs strapped into this thing, tearing up dudes whislt his little head peaks out over the top of that neck guard.



Finally a teaser for my Razorbacks 'MH-60' Landspeeder transports based on the Storm.




Expect updates to come thick and fast during the modelling stages (next 14 days or so), then to slow down once I start painting. I will try and paint inbetween assembling squads to keep this blog from looking too gray, but my painting skills are not quite up to par.

Partly Assembled, awaiting Bits&Kits order. How long does it take to clip some sprues guys, seriously! 3x Combi-meltas, 2x Meltaguns will be added after painting using FW Umbra Bolters (the rifles without scopes) as a base.





Sergeant is missing a pad I know, I havn't decided on what to use yet. I also hate scuplting GS, so I sighed in relief when bumbling through my bits box I came across those challice Death Company pads. They work perfectly.

I'm just getting started but I want to do a whole raptors Army and I'm going to try to convert up a Lias

Liking it so far, some great work on posing. Really dont like the human head on the contemptor though, spoils the conversion for me.

I am not 100% on it myself, and others have expressed their distaste for it too. It's only blue-tacced in at the moment so when I find a suitable replacement I will switch them over. I am trying to limit my use of greenstuff for the good of my sanity.

Ah, one of the aims of this blog is to try and show that anyone with an idea can create a unique army. I am awful at sculpting, hate greenstuff for anything other than joints/filling and my painting will certainly not be winning and Golden Demons! I will try and get across, with each completed unit, how easy it is for anyone with an idea and the patience and commitment to see said idea through, to create a unique army that you are proud to field on the tabletop.

Unfortunately my Wayland Games order is delayed until the weekend/early next week so I won't be able to start on the Relictors or Raptors, but I will try and get the Calix Priests and Landspeeders done in the next few days. Oh, and Mantis Warriors should be glued up tonight!

Seriously digging the mini-codex, I love all the fluffy stuff. I keep putting down my pen and picking up my scalpel/glue so havn't got any solid fluff yet, just basic ideas. At the moment I'm using the old Apocalypse templates to plan on, yes that big white space should be filled with fluff:

Mantis Warriors

Just a very quick one of the base for my Mantis Warriors; basically plain MKIV, trying to get hold of those SM Champion shoulderpads that are layered, a bit like an insects carapace. If not I guess I'll have to greenstuff them *despair*.
Oh, I also need to clean my lens I think. LOOK AT THOSE LENS SPOTS.

Just noticed the front two look very similar in pose in the photo, from the front they look very different, I just don't feel like rotating him slightly and taking a new picture when I will be painting them up soon. Guy at the back will be the Serg, missing arm is because I am waiting for his Lightning Claw, also why he is leaning back slightly as the Claw arm will be reaching out.

edit; Dammit I forgot their banner! I'll wait until painting to put it up I think.

Calix Priests!

Made entirely from my bits box, definitely needs a nice flat white primer to cover up those attrocious robes. Magnetic arms, can switch between chainsword, power sword, power fist. Wings are ornamental or can count-as jump pack because I forgot to magnetise the backpacks. Oh well. I need all my Sang Guard jump packs (sans the wings) for the rest of the Lamenters.

Raptors

Need some tubing to turn the bolters into Stalkers. Also need more pouches.

For my own sanity I am tempted to just work on Raptors and Carchorodons for now, an then complete small units from other Chapters after that. I keep mixing up bits and/or stealing bits already assigned to other squads.

I actually really dig your idea there.

Thanks for the encouragement, I should have Eiderman up to tabletop standard (painting) soon. Ordering some basing supplies as well, I will try and make some tall 'reeds' for my Raptors bases to show them stalking through the undergrowth.

A lot of reposing using a scalpel and GS. Most of my time converting in spent on posing and modelling new joints. I may add some more to him but I am trying to keep things simple at the moment. I originally intended to just convert a normal Termi, but the bits involved came close to the price-tag of Tyberos so I just jumped in and got the near-perfect model for a lot less work and a lot more detail. I guess I cheated!

Captain Eiderman, Raptors 6th Company MIA

First painted model in ten years! I really enjoyed painting the green, I know it's not the best paintjob ever especially on these boards, but I actually enjoyed doing it and am satisfied with the result. I need to add weathering and move him onto a proper base, which I will do once all my other Raptor models are complete so as to keep a uniform look.

Before anyone asks: Basecoat black spray. Two thin layers of Vallejo Heavy Green, one thin layer Heavy Green/Camouflage Green 50/50, one thin layer Heavy Green/Camouflage Green 25/75, highlight Camouflage Green, wash Badab Black, very thin highlight on raised areas with Camouflage Green.





Now I require some advice, I want to weather my Raptors as displayed in IA9;


I will use Forgeworld Weathering Powder as I'm about to grab a couple of bits anyway. Which should I go for? I'm thinking Aged Rust and Dry Mud. I will also be using it for the bases to create a warm-coloured wet mud look using gloss varnish.

Advice request number two (and three? four?), the following units are yet to have started planning and I need to form some ideas:
Fellblade- Carchorodon issue; should I use, as a base, a Baneblade, Shadowsword, Stormsword or Vulcan Macharius? Or perhaps heavily modify a Landraider Achilles or Helios? I would prefer the lower-priced models unless someone has some significantly awesome experience with the £90 FW ones!
Dreadnoughts- CQB drop pod 'standard' dreads for Carchorodons; MKIV bodies or MKIV Venerable? Or perhaps Ironclad MKIV? Going to add lots of Carch transfers.
Lias Issodon counts-as- I'm not sure where to start, no imagery that I can find. Perhaps kneeling and rocking a sniper rifle, issuing orders through a comm system/hand signals?
Add Rhinos/Razorbacks to the Raptors or stick with Speeders? More scouts or more marines? 50/50?

Quick WIP Of the Landspeeders. Basecoated and 'camo effect' applied. Tried upping the contrast to make the camo easier to see, but basically basecoated in thinned Heavy Green, then one VERY thin layer of 1:1 Heavy Green/Camo Green, to leave it a little smeary/blotchy. Then applied a 10:1 Badab Black/Heavy Green 'wash', very heavily. Blurred the lighter Camo Green with the basecoat of Heavy Green and made a really nice, sublte battleworn camo effect. Needs some highlighting and the white needs another couple of layers, then touch ups + final precision wash.
