Hello dakka, how have you been? I haven't had a lot of time recently for dakka. Sadly its been this long since I last posted. I've started to do commisions for local gamers and haven't really had time for my own armies. Though its curious that I returned to my guard army being that I've never had much luck playing as them. I've got a lot to do, conversion work is going to be extensive since I don't plan on ordering to much more from forgeworld any time soon. I do an extensions amount of greenstuff work for every rebel. Each soldiers is an individual and as such needs to have differences in every way.

Granite, a mountainous agrarian world. Once a bread basket for several imperial systems, it has fallen under hard times. After a warp storm swept over the planet, the highland clans began to amass weapons and armor for a rebellion. Though only a small movement at the moment, it is picking up rapidly. Salvation teams are reclaiming relic weapons and armor to prepare for the coming war.

Here are some of the projects I finished in the past hour, still have a lot to do though...

Nice Destroyer, the osl is spot on. The Infantry look pretty good, only suggestion is to clean the flock off the boots. For Chaos and good luck with your rebellion.

Is that Destroyer an actual one or a conversion?

I hate to say it, but the Chaos Guard don't look that Chaos-y.

Well, I didnt read your main comment untill after I looked at pics, and I must agree with Ogryn, they dont look the slightest bit chaos, i just assumed they where some special forces IG or something

I like them...less "WE ARE ALL MUTATED AFTER 5 MINUTES FIGHTING FOR CHAOS!" And more realistic, as if they have only just decided to fight for chaos.

I like them mostly. i do not think that ALL renegades have to be massively chaosy, but a little iconography would be good. chaos stars, remnants of sacrifices on the vehicle, that sort of thing.

the destroyer is cool. what shall you count it as?

i think they need more bright contrasts. right now they are a little fuzzy and detail is hard to pick out (although that may be mostly the camera). maybe make their skin brighter, or have birght blood smeared on some places on their body, or somesuch to add some bright contrasting colours toi the miniatures.

you could also use more catachan parts thrown in to give them a more rag-tag feel.


also, please repaint the plasma guns with blue energy coils. dont mean to sound rude, but plasma is blue, not green.

Mini update at the moment, at school so this is annoying to do, I got a bag of old minis, guard mostly which is really cool because it adds to the random assortment of soldiers composing the rebel army. All plasma is now blue and I will be using this army to work on my lighting effects and power weapons mostly. With these old models, I won't be changing a whole lot, though I will be adding some chaos stuff to them, chaos banners and tabards as well as horns to some helmets.

It was quite the night for painting, mostly commisions that I wish I didn't have to give up sadly, though I will move on. I experimented with lighting effects on the dread I did for him. Quite amazing how it took me an hour to figure it out.

Now the Granite Rebels are composed of highland farmers and the once pround Granite Mountains divisions that are renowned for their expertise in fighting in highland areas and woodland areas. Experts at killing tyranids and orks, they fight on foot and are ruthless assault infantry. With a battle cry and a swing of their machetes, they swarm enemy positions with unrelenting force.

Their tactics are skirmish based mostly, carrying a high proportion of plasma weapons and long range autocannons not relying on vehicles as much as other regiments, being a mountain regiment, they rely heavily on mortars and grenade launchers for artillery coverage.

Unusual to see a destroyer, what are you using it as?

You're going to do something else with those bases, right? I mean, you're not planning to leave the sand unpainted.... right?

The destroyer is indeed going to be played as a destroyer and the basing for his models are for him to decide after I paint his army.

just an idea- you should use marauder parts. they look pretty highlander-ish to me lol

I was thinking about doing that then I remembered that my local store is selling tons of valhallans, so I'm gong to take advantage of that.

I agree though to some degree that they aren't quite chaosy enough, however I feel if it's a rebellion only the leaders, who obviously are in touch with the dark forces, should be massively warped/spiky/chaosy, would make more sense well to me anyhow.....

I have plans brother, my chaos space marines have their grubby hands in this rebellion.

An old tanith first and only mini, a medic who will be the chaos sorcerer for my army. He is a very cool model, true scale and all with quite a large las pistol. I think the model is excellent.

I hope for comments to improvement upon my painting, anything helps. Also thanks for the other comments!

Well it has happened, a gt in March and I'm going to play my guard army, time to get working. I've got a lot of time to put into these guys and make them good. I'm not worried about painting them to a decent scheme, it'a making a competent list. Though I've only been playing for about 8 months now, I'm going to practice with guard as much as I can and with about 4k points of guard ive got plenty of options to play with.

On to the projects at hand and I'm going to be showing pictures mostly being that I do the entire blog from my phone. I started an old project I had, rough riders, though not the most amazing unit in the book, I like them as a unit. Five riders and I think I did a decent job with conversions and spent a lot of time today on them.

Also am working on my sentinels which were never really there though I really wanted a lot of them. Now the one I painted is my first vehicle ever, so I took my time even though there is still a lot to do on it. Got a Cadian sentinels box for a cheap amount, I am happy I got it.

Got 10 more Cadian and a valhallans mortar team as well. Also have plans to add mercenaries such as my kroot snipers, but that is for another day.

Sentinel looks good, have to admit I always have used green plasma seen purple as well so whatever you like. Personally I like the subtle hints of chaos on the infantry and the fact you gradually realise they're a chaos host rather than having it thrust in your face.

Loving the guard, nice painting too!LOL! BTW you have the same guard officer as me! Love to see more. Can't wait for next update,

The OSL on that destroyer is kick-ass!

What a day, 2 updates in a single day and I am exhausted. Did a full unit of Black Rock Kroot as my counts as ratlings. They are still a wip and I don't know when ill have them done either, do much to do. I put togther the cadian pattern sentinel i picked up.

Completed a rough rider and am still working on my beastmen who will be part of my infantry platoon. Now pictures to sum the rest of the post up, have at it. Now everything I post up is a WIP so please any comments are greatly appreciated.

Excellent work overall and I'm very happy to have found another that fights against Imperial tyranny!

I'm going to agree w/ some of the others regarding Chaos icons , etc. It's your force. If you want eyeball-clenching tentacles bursting from foreheads, do it. If you want same equipment / vehicles / uniforms switching sides and blasting away at their unsuspecting "allies", then do that. Bottom line is that above and beyond the opinions of other you're doing this for yourself, so make the army you want to make.

LOL, I know what you mean! Sames happened to me a few times before...(Get up at 8, start painting at 9, stop for lunch at 12-1 and update on Dakka then paint till 6ish)! But please can you check out my blog? (The link is in the signuture) Love to see more. I really like the idea of using Kroot as rattlings too! Many people prefure the old rattlings anyway!

BTW how do you do the lighing effect? I tryed it on the same guard officer as you have and mine turned out a failer.

Morning wip update: not a lot to say on this one, been fixing up my old guard vehicles and preping more guard to be painted and fixed. My heavy flamer chimera is the first tank on the painting block, needs a good amount of work and I did the camo stripes and some runes, but a lot more to do!

Todays agenda:
Finish my 15 vraks renegades
Start my new CS for infantry platoon 2
Start my blood slaughterer of khorne
Finish second sentinel
Finish rough riders
Start my leman russ'

That's about all for now, have some pics of my wip chimera.

I like what you've got going here. I don't feel the need to cover models w/ mutations & chaos stars or their equipment falling apart or ragtag look. Take the blood pact for example, they wear creepy ass masks & don't wash their clothes, but they're a professional military force. I don't see why just because guard go renegade they can't maintain professionality & keep up their equipment.

So far, so good! Loving it can't wait to see this finished!
