About 4 weeks ago I bought some of games workshops plastic glue.
I have actually always rated games workshop highly on the plastic glue I got from there. It, I find, give a very strong hold and was good value for money seen as you seem to get quite a bit.

However I think this may have all changed the new plastic glue I bought 4 weeks ago to stick together some of the new Necrons comes in a new smaller bottle and doesn't seem to give anywhere as strong a bond.

I'm well annoyed now that I've seen 4 of my new immortals fall apart with only minor knocks.

No doubt this (the smaller size and less hold) is due to GW tightening there respective belts in light of disappointing financial reports. However GW could really be doing themselves out of valued custom as the plastic glue was just about the only thing I rated as good value for sale at GW.

If anything it is this sort of cost cutting that will see GW in the dirt in not too long IMO.

Anyone else find this or did I just get a duff batch?

I can't for the life of my understand why you are using GW brand tools anyway.

Just move on, you will be happier you did. (and so will your wallet)

Walk into any good plumbing/builders merchants and buy a tub of polyester cement for solvent weld rain water pipes. A 250mm bottle costs about £5(uk) and is very similar to gw old glue. Just apply with a old paint brush

hope this helps

I use standard Testers plastic model cement (in the orange tube). It's cheap and I can throw my guys against a wall without breakage.

I've only been in the hobby for almost 2 years and while I have not used anything else, I am happy with GW tools aside from their spray gun that I don't much care for. Also I prefer to buy the stuff in store and I'm not sure of any place around here that sells similar stuff other than bulk acrylic paints.

Are you sure you are using Plastic Glue Thick and not the awful Thin variant? I still have good results with GW Plastic Glue Thick when gluing straight bits together. Of course, if you are using it on painted minis, there's no way it'll last because it's dissolving the paint rather than the plastic.

If it's neither of the above, then I guess you ought to find one of the above mentioned other brands!

Yeah it is certainly the thick stuff. I find I get marginally better hold if I shake it up a little.

Also I know there are other brands (atleast locally in Ohio) that look the same as the revell stuff and work just as well.

This is your problem

(Seriously though, GW plastic glue is garbage. Please get yourself some revell contacta and never look at a pot of GW plastic glue again as long as you live, tia)

This is the Testor's plastic cement I use. It's easy to find and lasts forever. I think I've had this bottle since 2008.

The Testors' Model Master range of polycement is also good.

If the hobby store I was at (and looking for the Revell stuff) only had it, I'd still get it, but I prefer the blue Revell bottle (not least of which is because it's easier to find on my modelling desk).

Yup. Testors model glue FTW...they have been making the stuff for decades, and pretty much have it perfected.

GW glue doesn't even come with a proper applicator. That should preclude you from buying it before looking at the quality of the glue or the stupid price. £4.10?? Jeeze.

I definitely would not recommend the GW plastic glue either. I have been using cheap super glue from $2 shops for the last two years, they come in packs of eight usually and last me for about 2 months. You just need the tiniest drop on your models and it will stick like honey (even better, to be honest!)

Not flaming but instead of plastic glue, try switching to superglue for everything. It makes things much easier later on if you need to reposition anything and as an added bonus, if you want to strip figures later then the glue will dissolve completely and you can start from scratch!

Also I usually keep a thin bit of wire to clean it out, or if it jams too much I take out the metal part then use it anyway. Just no longer on the tiny fiddly bits.

And again.

Any local toy or hobby store that stocks airfix or other plastic model kits should have this. If not ordering online should be easy enough.

Just remember poly cement welds the join, so use the minumum possible to avoid meliting detail around it.

if the needle is clogged up take it out of the 'bottle' and hold a lighter or a match underneath, the glue will burn right up and the needle is opened up!

I really like the revell glue as well, works like a charm

Err seventheded?

Only I was an idiot with mine and didn't realise that the plastic was a lid... I thought I had to cut the front off to open it up; doing so blocked the metal tube inside.

So I had to remove the tube and use the now decapitated lid Unfortunately that results in me splooging glue everywhere, ruined a fair few models including an OOP Italeri 1/72 Dodge WC-51 :(

My own fault though so I can't blame the glue.
