Subject: ++ FORGEBASEMENT [A Warhammer 40K terrain blog] [Updated 07/15/2012]:

Decided to start a blog of my various terrain projects that are created in my basement as a way to have a record of them all in one place.
Over the years I have hoarded a large stash of Necromunda bulkheads. In the past year or so i have decided I need to stop hoarding and start building with them, which spawned many of the projects below.
To kick it off I managed to finish up a piece of LOS-blocking industrial terrain tonight using some of the many Necromunda bulkheads I have accumulated as a base, with some COD components added:

Nothing special but it serves it's purpose(blocking LOS/being an obstacle) and it will integrate nicely with my other urban/industrial pieces...
Below are some of my other projects to add a little more varied content to the blog.

Moving forward I will be adding new projects and pieces as they are created.

Finally managed to get a bigger ruin together. Here are some WIP pics of the basic structure:
This is based off of pieces from two GW Shrine of The Aquilla kits, with some added pieces from other gw ruin kits and various bits, etc.
As usual I had to strike a balance between making it look rubble filled and being optimized for playability.
In these pics I have just base coated it thus far.
makes a nice central ruin for COD games, etc.
C&C welcome.

The new building looks a bit too symmetrical to me. Have to say your other buildings look pretty damn cool though.
Would love to see you take on some kind of machine shop/cargo interchange type building.

I had the same thought when I went back to look at it the other night.
I have been doing some work on it to break up the lines a bit more. Once it is finished I'll post some updated pics.

Yeah, that IS a great smell.
Still working out how best to mate the new tower to the fortress cleanly, so for now a few pics showing the latest building fully weathered and amoungst my other pieces (and with a few models for flavor):

Did a little dry-fitting work on the replacement tower for my "Fortress of The Aquilla" (more generic Imperial and less Dark Angel):
The heavy bolter emplacement pieces from the bastion fit into what used to be the doors of the Aquilla tower nicely and will need little work to make seamless.
I will be adding some additional buttressing eventually, but still working out the details.
Still a fair amount of work to do, but I can sort of see my vision coming together.
C&C welcome...

With summer break here decided to get started on a New project: A large Imperial structure for use in an upcoming scenario game in the family 40k campaign between my sons and I (my biggest to date using GW kits).
The piece is designed as a "partial structure" that is placed against a board edge as shown. It is just under 3' wide allowing movement/roadways on either side when placed.
This is still very much a WIP as what you see above is the basic layout blocked out.
Much detailing, battle damage and adding of rubble to come as well as the need to design a partial/damaged peaked roof of corrugated metal.
In particular I plan to add two more openings (breaches) in the front wall that could be used by infantry to gain access bringing the toal to five access points at ground level spread around the three sides.
C&C welcomed.

Managed to finish up a post-apocalyptic battlefield themed board I wanted to build:
I wanted a board that looked like a blasted and burning wasteland, perhaps ravaged by orbital bombardment, etc. Not a lot of intact structures, just a few jagged ruins and burning craters .
Wanted a sort of desolate and scoured/barren look.
Closeup of the ruins:
The five GW craters are imbedded in the table surface and blended in via the texturing:
Smoke plumes are big enough to block LOS and we will play them as dangerous to non-vehicles. We will play the craters as "impact craters" and the ruins as "unbased ruins" as per the 6th edition rulebook.
Motivation: I had those old GW ruins and the craters sitting in one of my bits boxes, so this was an excuse to put them to use. Besides an area of our Golov campaign setting will make good use of this table.
Ruins and plumes are NOT affixed and thus removable (Craters are built into the table as already mentioned).
C&C welcomed.
