Subject: Sisters of Battle escalation league- 800 pts- Need HQ advice
Hey guys, looking for a little feedback here. I'm playing in an escalation league that just got up to 800 pts. The general rules of the league are that you must stick with a single HQ unit throughout the league, and it cannot be a unique character. That is unfortunate for me, as the non-unique HQ's in the SoB codex aren't very good. However, points are gained in every game and the points can then be cashed in to purchase USRs for the HQ, HQ+attached unit, and HQ+the whole army. In March the point total will be boosted to 1000 pts, so I'd like to write the list with that in mind. Other than the HQ choice, units and wargear can be switched out freely from game to game. At 600 points I was using Celestine, 2 sister squads, and an exorcist. I found out celestine wasn't a legal choice, and a single exorcist really wasn't doing all that much at this point level, especially since I've mainly been facing infantry-heavy lists. I know there are a number of players using heavier vehicles though, so I'm definitely keeping some melta capability in.
At the moment I have two lists in mind. The first uses an Ecclesiarchy Confessor with a battle conclave and is 800 pts on the nose.
Heavy Support
Retributors- 155
4x HB, immolator, dozer blade, TLHB
The idea here is to stick the canoness in with the dominions for a 4 flamer easy-bake-oven-lite. Retributor Immo cruises around and takes shots of opportunity, or transports them as necessary.
Due to the league restrictions at this level, I'm limited to 1 HQ, 1 Elite, 1 Heavy, and 1-2 fast. Looking for which list you guys prefer, as well as advice on improving both of them. The most important thing at this point is to pick an HQ. Everything else can be fleshed out more from there.

I'm a bigger fan of the second list. Those comp restrictions on characters bite the big one.
I would trade the MB and dozers to make the second Immo TL-MM.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and find a way to get points for a Simulacrum for those poor Rets.

Good call on the simulacrum, that's kinda the whole point of the rets, haha. I'm going to try that out rather than the TLMM on the extra immo for now, I think. I could do both by dropping the combi-plas and combi-melta from the Battle Sister Squads though. Throw a storm bolter on the Ret superior for giggles and that's 800 on the nose. I'm generally not a huge fan of combi-weapons anyway. With the HQ chosen though I'm free within the league to try out different builds.
The character restriction does suck for this codex, but I kinda understand it in general. Celestine was tearing everything she hit to pieces. I'm sure some of the other meaner HQs out there like Mephiston would be even worse. The nice thing though is that after I get a few more battles in I'll be able to start adding USRs to my HQ, and after that to more of the army. Army-wide FNP is going to be great, and stubborn will be just like the good ol' days.

Drop an Assassin and play Uriah if you want a Conclave.
Overall, the second list is probably better, but I'd find a way to play Uriah and the Conclave. At that points level, you can get probably get away with a smaller Conclave.
I think I'd drop the Canoness and the Retributors out of the second list and work Uriah and Co. into it. Even a five-man Conclave is okay if you want to put them in a MM-Immolator.

Yeah, unfortunately I can't use any named characters or else I'd just keep using celestine. Dropping the canoness would put it pretty similar to the first list, although I'll look into dropping a couple people from the conclave and switching the seraphim to dominions.
Unfortunately I can only have a single HQ, so the big choice here is between a canoness or a confessor.
You have such a beautiful Celestine conversion, that it is a damn shame as well.

Oops, I missed that bit the first time.
Neither the Canoness nor the Confessor is really worth a crap, so it's just down to whether you want an HtH unit. Since the Conclave is the only one available that isn't a complete joke, that's really the deciding factor.
At this point level, I wouldn't hesitate to play a small Conclave, with or with out an Immolator.

In this case, I would simply go by what you want to play. More shooty or have some H2H. They are both about the same, just stay with what will be fun to play or what models you like.
I would probably play the cannoness simply because I'll never run her otherwise. It would give me an opertunity to try some of the faith powers I will never field too.
