I've been eagerly watching the developments in consumer level 3d printing with an eye towards designing my own bits for
40k.
The Makerbot series of 3d printers -
http://www.makerbot.com/ - don't seem like their able to replicate the fine detail required for 28mm modeling, but I've seen some really promising stuff on Shapeways.com, particularly bits like
http://www.shapeways.com/model/297672/ from custom minis, and full models like
http://www.shapeways.com/model/446658/stealth_ladies_revolvers.html?gid=sg28704 from GangWar/NotNorm.
Does anyone have first hand experience with consumer level 3d printers, and how have you found them?
Has anyone patronized the designers on Shapeways, and what has your experience been? - For me, I've purchased a couple small bits from Dynath40k as a quality test and found the prints to be acceptable for 28mm scale use.
Has anyone designed their own bits for 3d printing?
If so, what software and techniques did you use, and what was your experience like?
