Subject: Orks. The start of a Daddy/Daughter project.

Hello
First off, been playing for 40K for a few years now, and, my daughter has watched me build and paint nearly 4,200 points of IG during that time. She has spent plenty of time at local stores watching me play. After all that, she says she wants to play, build, paint, and enjoy this game. She is ten. She has been playing games with my wife and I for a while now, everything from "bakers dozen", "ticket to ride", and many many more. "Small world" being her favorite. She decided to play Orks, oh, the heresy in that (me playing IG). Anyway, at least you can get orks on the cheap. Did some trading, and got a good start with more on the way. So, here are some pics. Some I have painted, some she has. She will now do all the boyz, seeing as how they are a never ending stream of bodies.
I hope you all enjoy this. To all those that traded with me to get this, thank you.

Yes, blue skin. She did not want to go with the normal green skin you see on Orks. After some debate on her own, she settled on blue primer from Army Painter. It was the blue or purple. Either way, I would have been fine with it.
As far as a clan or tribe of orks, no real way to it. Just using what I pick up in trade.
Here is what is coming in:
1 Trukk, pretty basic
13 AOBR boys
1 AOBR Big Shoota
1 nob
1 warboss from AOBR
1 loota
20 painted boyz (not black reach models)
3 deffcoptas
20 old but painted gretchin
2 Warbosses
NIB metal Dread (works as a dread or killa can)
2 deffcoptas.
Not a bad start. I think the only thing I will be purchasing is another set of Killa Kans.

And they call Ultra marines Smurfs. But for real I think its great getting kids into the game. regardless of what everyone else says playing with kids has never made me angry it just gave me a chance to teach them all i can about this game and hopefully make them better player. At ten she should have no problem learning the rules.

Killa Kans are done, sort of, always more to paint on them, but, for now, table top good. Daughter has to get some shchool work done to get working on her ork boy mob of 18 boyz. Have to do some chopping and converting for the Nob that goes with that group. New pics though.

A great project martin74, helps to put it all into it's proper perspective. I remember when my daughter was maybe 7, she decided to help paint this BA character my son (then around 10) had picked up somewhere. She got the biggest brush she could find, painted it all in thick, bright red, and "Voila!" He wasn't impressed.
Some basing using regular school glue and sand might be a cool project for her to try too.
Cheers.

Got some new stuff in the mail the other day, all due to trading. So far, the only thing I have purchased for this army is the some paint and the primer. My daughter said she wanted each mob of boyz to have the same weapon, such as machettes, chain saws, axes. I thought it was a good way to show difference in each squad. So, here are more pics of stuff to accomplish.

Some more stuff came in the mail, picked up some stuff.
Stuff puchased so far for this army from the LGS:
1. Nobz box. Have to get those power claw Nobz for the boyz mobs.
2. Pain boy. Need that Feel No Pain for that group.
3. Picked up the Runt Hearder from some guy who just needed the gretchin from that box set, 5 dollars for the runt hearder.
Traded an old painted and messed up drop pod for a whole set of AOBR orks. Something I wasn't using, but, she can always use more boyz.
She started to paint one mob up the other night while I was playing. Pink and purple. different, but, orky too.
Here are more pics.

Things are moving along on this army. She has started to paint a bit more and have let her start using the washes on the Gretchen. I have the entire 18 of them painted, but, only three washed. I have been working on the pain boy and runt herder. She gets to do the other 35 boyz remaining. That is all here, I have painted an IG army upwards of 4200 points, so, painting another hoard army does not sound like fun to me. Still looking at betting another set of killa kans, bringing the total to 6 and looking at a trade where I am going to get untold amounts of boyz and Gretchen. Here are new pics.
Oh, we are going to play a small game here at home, so, she can start to understand the rules. I might have pics of that up later too.

Even more fun today. Had the day off, thanks to our past presidents. Anyway, daughter and I had a small game, around 550 points. Just getting her use to the rules and the orks too. The Nobz squad is done. Finished it up with her tonight. You can tell who painted who.
For all those who have taken a look and added comments, thank you. She is having fun. At the moment, only 35-40 boyz, 3 deff koptas, 2 Nobz (with the boyz), and 6 lootas to paint. Have 39 more boyz coming in off a trade. Some other stuff coming in soon. I think the next purchase is going to be a truck or two. Have to wait for that at the moment.
Enjoy the new pics.

Love seeing the progress on these guys...this is perhaps my favorite blog!
My daughter will be 10 in June...maybe I should see if she'd be interested in something like this. I have a feeling this type daughter/dad time will pay off in about 4-6 years!
Tell her to keep up the good work and that her color choices are awesome!
