Welcome to my blog where things we be getting Nurgly. I have been playing warhammer 40k for five years now, and for three of those five years I have been collecting a Plague Marine army with my own fluff and paint-scheme. Here is a snippet of the fluff behind one of the characters of my legion:
Spoiler:
I was originally a Luna Wolf, but I got dragged under the swamp on Davins Moon by the minions of Nurgle. I thought I was dead, but then a warm, loving voice broke the silence, it was papa Nurgle himself, convincing me to join his ranks of immortal warriors; he would give me more compassion and love than the Emperor would give his own sons, as well as the gift being able to withstand more pain than any space marine could. I was not convinced by this, I knew who I was devoted to, and would not let the cunning voice deceive me. Nurgle was not pleased with this at all, you could tell, he became hesitant and could hear a false tone of calmness in his voice, yet he carried on trying to deceive. Somehow he had gotten inside of my head; I was seeing all of these different visions of worlds being exterminated and the Imperium wiping out whole alien races in the name of the Emperor. After a while the visions had ceased and the warm voice spoke up again, it said 'The Emperor deceives you, he is not as godly as you may think, he had bargained with the Chaos Gods for immense power before turning his back on them' I could not believe this, and I kept on trying to block out the voice, trying not to listen to the foul content that defiles Emperor's name, but yet there had become a growing essence of doubt in my mind, doubt that he Emperor wasn't Godly as everyone thinks he is and that maybe the voice is telling the truth... click here to read more.

So what I have in my Army so far is:
two Defilers
one Brass Scorpion
three squads of Plague Marines
two squads of Khorne Berserkers
one Dreadnought
two Rhinos
one Dreadclaw
one Chaos Lord
one Daemon Prince
one squad of Chaos Raptors
one Sorcerer
three Obliterators
one Chaos Dreadnought
one Chaos Predator
Fabius Bile

Below are some pictures of my favourite minis in my army:
Here is a shot of one of my Defilers:

Here is a photo of my Dreadnought. Once I rolled crazed every turn for him, so he was running around the board like a Dreadnought on drugs!

More updates will be coming soon. What do you think of my army so-far? I was thinking of getting the new Forgeworld Decimator Daemon-engine, I worked out that over-all it will cost me £53 for the body and arms, is this worth the price? Has anyone played with the rules for it yet?

These look great! I especially like the Nurgley effects on the vehicles, the eyes everywhere, and the Chaos-ified Imperial stuff like the dread, your chaos lord and the AOBR captain. That has a certain twisted appeal to me
I read the fluff, and I thought it was great. Really didn't see it coming that he would turn into the Daemon Prince! That was a nice twist. The story line itself is fantastic.I think you could add a bit more substance to the writing style by putting in a bit more descriptive language, and making it flow more, for example:
Spoiler:
I felt like a true god. My whole being infused with dark energy buzzing like a thousand flies, I looked down at the deadly claws on my gnarled grotesque feet, seemingly an eternity away. Giant leathery wings unfolded from my back as I screamed my rage to the twisted sky above.

Anyway, back to the models The paint jobs are solid, good highlighting, and the conversions are original and really cool! The Prince looks pretty creepy and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to the Ben 10 model. What jump packs are you using for the raptors? I saw some good Nurgle raptors using the Sanguinary guard packs without the wings.
Hope you don't mind the constructive criticism on the writing, feel free to use it or not, I think it's pretty awesome already.

I like the Chaos Sorcerer best. Is that an Ork Burna head on the Plasma Gunner from the second Plague Marines squad? Your green stuff tentacles seem a bit thick and plain - though the Raptors GS work looks very promising.

Can't comment on the Forgeworld Decimator other than it looks like an impressive model.

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah I do need to improve the fluff, I started it on DakkaDakka as a rough draft, I shall have to sit down and work into it more.

Wow, that's good writing . I definitely need structure the sentences a bit more.

Thanks I shall be putting up some updates about the Rhinos, Raptors, Defilers and the Obliterator soon. I have already got some Maxmini jump-packs for the Raptors:

Yeah that is a Ork Burna head, I thought it would make an awesome Plague Marine gas-mask

Arakasi wrote:Your green stuff tentacles seem a bit thick and plain - though the Raptors GS work looks very promising.

Yeah, my greenstuff skills are quite limited, but I hope to become better as time goes on, and thanks, I have made some progress on the Raptors.

So sorry for not posting in a while, I had a hard time with college work, but now I'm back with some more updates

Here is one of my Rhinos. It has been highly converted with pustules, slime by using a 1 to 1 mix of baking powder (or flour) to green ink (or wash), there's also I diorama inside the Rhino and even a driver in the driver's cabin. What I have left to do on it is the gold trim on the Plague Marine and the treads. (Note, the gap between the front panel is there because the roof is removable, and I only balanced it on top)

Here is a close up of the insides of the drivers cabin... I made the servitor driving the rhino from random loyalist and chaos space marine bits

Here is the diorama inside of the rhino, where the Familiar is handing the Plague Marine his combat sword... once again I made it from spare bits from by bits box, the Chaos Familiar was from the Chaos Terminator Lord plastic kit.

This is a close-up of the gunner on the top, the torso/head of the gunner was from the FW Deathguard upgrade kit

A picture of the control panel; the glowing monitors were painted using a base-coat of Knarlock Green, then Goblin Green making ture to leave some of the previous colour showing round the edges, and lastly a highlight of Scorpion Green.

Here are some pictures of my 2nd Defiler that I have been painting up. It is nearly finished; I have recently just finished the gold trim that was about a month's worth of painting alone and it has had a Devlan Mud wash over the top. All I have left is some detailing on the Nurgle symbols and the wires, and it needs to have the slime applied to it as well.

This is a close-up of the eyes that I sculpted myself. I wanted to give the impression that the Daemon was erupting from the defiler in different stages; so this defiler would be the first stage, the defiler I had in my original post with the full face is the second stage and then the Plague Hulk that I plan to buy will be the last stage.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here are some pictures of Rhino 2 which has been primed. It has been given the same treatment as the first Rhino, as in tentacles coming out of hatches, and pustules, and a driver the the cockpit...

Another Forgeworld torso:

The Driver was inspired by the crewmen in the Chaos variant of the Warhound titan. I used various bits from the bitz box to make the driver, most was possessed bits, then I added tentacles, wires and sinew erupting from his hands and fusing with the rhino.

A close-up of a snarling maw on the top of the Rhino...

Here is my third obliteration that I was converting from the Ben 10 figure, as you can see I have added various weapons, chaos bits and green-stuff and he is now primed.

I have also made progress on my Brass Scorpion, adding more armour plates and green-stuff...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here is my Raptor Squad which is a WIP. I wanted the five guys to look like they were form the pre-Heresy era; so they were around on Davin's moon when Horus fell to the blade of Edguan Temba. So as you see below is the Sgt of the squad with the power-fist and bolt pistol load-out. He is the test model for the colour scheme as well. The choice of colours was obviously going to be roughly the Luna-Wolves colour scheme, but dirty and corrupted:

Here is one of the special weapon guys, he is armed with a flame-thrower.

Here is the banner bearer (Icon of Nurgle). As you can see I sculpted an eye on top with optic nerves running down to the bearer's head. I plan to do free-hand work on the banner depicting Edguan Temba with his sword in Horus, a bit like the Grey Knights banner, but the other way round in terms of the Daemon stabbing the Terminator

Here is another Raptor, using some Forge-World Deathguard bodies and shoulder pads. Also for the real pre-heresy feel I used some of the chain-axes from the Khorne Berserkers boxed set.

Here is the 2nd special weapon which is the Melta-gun; I am hoping that in battle I shall be able to deep-strike these guys along with the winged Lord to pop priority targets such as tanks or MC's.

Big update!

Rhino looks great. Are the treads done? They look a bit bland in comparison...

2nd Defiler is nice too. The eyes would look better if the finish was smoother - modelling and paint wise. Though a layer of gloss varnish to make it glisten may be all it needs

Is there a reason you used to bases for the obliteration rather than just one larger base?

Will be watching the rest - looks promising!

No, the treads are not done yet, they shall be done soon though.

I plan on adding a layer of PVA over the top of the eyes

The Obliterator would over-hang a Terminator-sized base, but I couldn't justify a reason to buy a big base to put him on, when I have two small bases in my bitz box. It should look better with some paint on it though.

Thanks for the complements though, I really appreciate it

Sorry for not updating at-all recently, my week has been pretty jam-packed. I shall try to update it today though and keep it going regularly... anyway here is an update. I thought firstly I would show off the models in my custom converted display cabinet: Here is a metal champion with power fist...

Here is a more-or-less birds-eye view of some of the minis in the cabinet. What I did was I glued sand down onto the cabinet first, then sprayed it black and dry-brushed it with different browns. The goo river was made by firstly laying down a layer of PVA glue and leaving it to dry, then paint it with a green and go over it again with PVA glue.

I have done some more work on the Rhino, by finishing off the goo with some more layers of ink and painting the trim of the Plague Marine standing on the boarding ramp.

Progress has also been made on my Obliterator. I have started painting the skin with a coat of deheb stone and then a baal red wash over the top.

STAY TUNED FOR MORE UPDATES!

Thanks for the reply, yeah the skin effect is. I am going over the skin, blending in dwarf-flesh and maybe a bit of bleached bone to create highlights on the model.

For the rust, I first based it with a silver (the name was chain-mail silver before GW changed the paint range) then I used an orange Revell paint (I am sure any orange paint will do). Lastly I washed over it with Devlan Mud.

Here is some images of the Raptor Champion...

I painted the power-fist as though it's glowing with sickly energy, it was my first time at trying to do lighting effects, so what do you think of it?

It took me alot of blending from dark green to almost pure white...

Here is a cloeup of the light being cas onto the leg...

Fist is looking nice, though something about it isn't "glowing" for me. It may be the OSL - the OSL on the leg looks too bright (it shouldn't be the same intensity as the fist, but a level or two lower - as it is quite far away) - and the lack of OSL on other elements near the fist - the tentacle, shoulder pad and even the right side of the chest armour. It could also be the laurel on the shield - unless that is meant to be glowing too?

Keep up the good work!

Yesterday I went to Vets night. I t was a chaos vs chaos battle (which was pretty rare at my local GW. The mission was seize ground, two objectives. Deployment was Dawn of War. Over all it was a good game. I lost but I learnt what units pulled their weight and which units were pants *looks at dreadnought*. It was my first time fielding the Rhinos. I found them useful using them as road blocks to try to deny the enemy the objective. Also people at the night seemed to like my army and the conversion work, so that was a nice confidence boost in my abilities

Painting wise, it's going very slow but I have gotten some more work done on the Obliterator model; I have highlighted the skin with Deheb stone and added a slight green tinge to places to make it look mouldy.

I have also base-coated some more Raptors brown ready for the bone armour.

I really struggle with glow myself, its a major pain to do I think unless your using an airbrush to be honest.

I often envy the nurgle player, the ability to go all out on mutations and small details is something I struggle with on more conforming armies >.< can't wait to get my WoC started for that reason even if I did pick tzeentch xD

Yeah, I added a bit more to the glow. It doesn't look bad for a first attempt but I shall me using an airbrush from now on, I just got to get my head round how to use the damned thing!

How many lights are you using? It looks like there is not enough light (darker than your other pics), and from not enough sides (I can see shadows!)

I'm interested to follow your (and anyone else's ) airbrush attempts too - I've got to eventually splurge for one myself...

Ok, thanks for the advice!

Here are some pictures of some new Plague Marines that I made from the Chaos Battleforce I bought the other day.

I personally think that I am getting better at modelling/ converting minis These have been the best ones I have built so far...
