Some cheeky banter over on endtransmission's excellent blog lead to this deranged idea for a contest, some kind of kind of Japanese monster movie 40k crossover thing.
Gitsplitta suggested:
"Must be a recognizable character (or at least bear a vague resemblence ) to one of the "characters" from a Godzilla/Mothra movie... or you could extend it to all of Kaiju I suppose.

You could do monsters... special human or humanoid characters... whatever. Leave it pretty broad so a wide variety of people can participate! I've got one human character I'd love to do... Not to mention the monsters..."

So anything from nids to grots and anything in between. Is this something folk would be interested in?

Theophony"... and there's strippers in terminator armor and lovecraftian shenanigans afoot."

I think it's a great idea (obviously), though it's GRAVEN'S IDEA (good on ya mate!).

Trick is there are a ton of monster models out there already... so it's got to made from non-Kaiju bits. No sneaking godzilla's head from the figure you can buy at WalMart on a carnifex or dreadnought model. I wouldn't say that it has to be a GW figure... just compatible with 40k or perhaps one of the other gaming systems dakka supports like War Machine or Infinity.

I think that's a key point: by limiting folk, it'll spur creativity. I'd be inclined to say that it should be recognisably 40k in nature, which still leaves it pretty broad.

Sounds reasonable. There are plenty of opportunities for special infantry and monstrous creatures across most races (they don't have to be qualified as "monstrous" in the game). Nids, dreadnoughts, dread knights, ork mega dreads, squiggoths (oooh, one as Baragon would be perfect!), demons, the SOB penitent engines, sentinels... all those could be made to resemble one of the critters.

It's got to be recognisably 40K and recognisably Godzilla based? Interesting idea though...

Well, "recognizable" might be a bit strong... but it should be close enough to be a convincing proxy.

Mecha-Godzilla alone provides enormous potential...

It would make a hell of a Dreadknight!

As a Kaiju Fan of old (back when we just called them Giant Monsters while watching them on Channel 56 during Creature Double Feature)... I approve of this plan!

So why not do a Monsterpocalypse painting theme?

Not that I'm dissing a 40k/Godzilla crossover mind.

Bonus points for anyone that includes a line of epic scale tanks on the base, with little sticks underneath for the props guy to move them around

As a massive Godzilla fan. I approve of anything that tries to mash Godzilla and 40k together.

How about rather then just Godzilla, you go with Tokusatsu?

Allowing for stuff like Gamera, Ultraman, Super Sentai, etc.
