Browsing through some of my photo's of my armies and came accross this one I thought I'd share. We had a bet on how many marines would actually fit in the back of a Rhino. So I managed to model x4 Thousand Sons, without backpacks, and holding their helmets..........

Probably work

Well, if one sits up front with the driver, and two more are standing on their shoulders to fire out the top hatch...uh... well, maybe they all lay down inside the rhino on top of each other?

Don't forget the guys riding on the roof and the dude on a skate board holding onto the back! Still it is interesting to see how many would actually fit in the model. It makes me realize how large a rhino irl would have to be to make sense. The closest thing we probably have in size comparison today would be the LVTP. According to its wiki it can transport 25 normal men, and assuming fully armored space marines take up two seats that is a good size for a 10 man tactical squad. I can't imagine how large a life size land raider would be if that is the case!

Also, nice thousand sons!

So has anyone modelled a true scale rhino? Does that go any ware near fitting ten normal marines?

Only the Thousand Sons who didn't have much psychic potential were transformed into rubric marines. So there are some who are still human; they're just few and far between.

It's a riddle. How do you fit 10 Marines in a Rhino? The answer is to melt them and solidify them at the end of the drive.

Only Slaanesh Marines do the lying on top of each other!

Lord Scythican wrote:I just want to know where you got those awesome flame shoulder pads!

They are from the metal Legion of the Damned models, when you could buy the parts seperately. One of their shoulder pads was just a pure flame on it an nothing else. I bought a shed load of them so every model in my Thousand Sons has one.

GalacticDefender wrote:Aren't the thousand sons like... sealed inside their armor? How would they take their helmets off?

Basically, any model without a helment I used a Tomb Kings Skeleton head to sort of fit it with the Thousand Sons theme.

Nice!

The scaling for 40k vehicles makes more sense if you assume all the infantry models are scaled-up for dramatic effect.

Really loving the paintjob on the models there!

Cool little experiment too

I wonder if anyone has tried it with a Chimera+IG or trying to get 10 Witches in a Ravager etc.

That was what, twelve, fifteen years ago? It was pretty extreme. They used old metal LS crew, IIRC, for most of the guys on benches, then had guys hanging out the top and side hatches. It was a fun conversion, though. Having trouble digging up the image from google...

Wait? I thought it was common knowledge that the squad leader actually surfed the tank into battle, and then when he decided it was time to disembark the entire squad teleported in around the rhino

You can easily get 10 Thousand sons inside a rhino.

Take them out of their armour and they'll fit in the ashtray.

I was tempted to take a photo of a tank like yours open topped with 10 marines all in bits scatterd inside... a pack of bluetack next to it. "you didnt specify they had to be together once inside"

I doubt they would all fit, even as bits.

Based on the rules for the doom of malanthai (codex nids), each vehicle in 40k have no internal space, but a portal to the third plane on 40k universe: the transported units plane. There a unit stay for as long as he want, fallowing the rules that no unit inside a transport can be targeted by any power.

This theory is very common among tech priests, specially due to the rule mechanics on open toped transport vehicles, as no unit inside it can be target of loose bullets or explosions, even if they are "embarked" ON a plank with wheels...

I got that from the last exam for tech marines acceptance into the mechanicus, please, keep it low...

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...

I couldn't find the image, either. If memory serves, six will fit on the benches, using LS crew models, leaving one for each size hatch and two for the top (no room to stand in the aisle).

It seems like, using the PA Space Marine models as the standard, all the vehicles are a size smaller than they "should" be, i.e a Rhino would be closer to a Landraider, a Landraider closer to a Baneblade, etc. Some of the truescaled vehicles I've seen have been made along those lines, modifying the next larger kit into the profile of the intended vehicle.

Great models! Love the skeletal archers on the front.

GW vehicles are way undersized and generally should be significantly longer.
