This blog will document the creation and evolution of my SSU army for the Dust Warfare miniatures game.
Being a converter/kit-basher at heart I can't help but customize any models I buy, and the fact that Dust infantry are pre-built means that a little work needs to be done to add some viual variety and unique character to individual models and units.
For starter I have bee doing some work on my SSU walkers:
Here is a KV-152i (looted from German tech) and "Grand'Ma" (added vision slits to both and lights to the KV-152i):
Slight mod (headswap) on my KV-152i pilot:
Sort fo a "come at me..." stance:
All the above pics are WIP as the models are only basecoated( black primer followed by rusty red overspray and then Vallejo Russian Uniform) thus far.
Test basing for an urban rubble look that I plan to do on all my SSU:
I have a lot of ideas for customizinf/converting my infantry which I will update this blog with asap.
C&C welcome.

Made some more progress on the "Grand'Ma" walker.
Tried out the Archer rub-on dry decals. They work great. Added some slogans and call number using them.
frontal views:
Started to build up the urban rubble basing:
Left arm slogan:
Right arm slogan:
The model is still very much WIP, need to blend the edges of the decals/weather them, do more detailing, finish the basing, matte varnish the entire model, etc. etc. but she is coming together...

Did some converting on a command group:
Officer now has a great coat.
Radio officer has a longer antenna.
Machine gunner has added muzzle flash and spent shells.

Thanks for the feedback.
Hoping to have enough SSU models and themed terrain ready when the SSU book hits the shelves to play every game of DW with a fully painted force...
Also, SSU tokens/markers on the cheap using logos cut from the unit boxes and some spare bases:

Slow.
I got caught up in the 6th edition 40K hype and have been finishing various fortification pieces for 40K that have been stalled in various stages of completion (a couple bunkers, a bastion, a fortress of redemption, etc.).
I blame FFG. They put out SSU models but the SSU book was delayed and they have given no indication of when it will actually arrive.
So while my friends are playing dust and talking it up I have a bunch of SSU models collecting dust on a shelf because they have no rules/stats/point costs for Warfare...
Bad form/planning on FFG's part imho.
FFG should have struck while the iron was hot, especially with 6th edition looming, but they missed out on totally distracting me, and now I have been drawn back to 40K for the time being as I got bored working on stuff I cant actually play with.
Once the SSU book finally comes out I'll probably be a little more motivated to spend time on stuff for Dust...

ouch! No SSU rules yet? That's harsh. Is it possible to just use an existing army's rules and use your models as proxies? Not the same, I completely understand, but it seems a shame not to be pushing those models around, shouting commands in a really bad Russian accent (learned from Rocky and Bullywinkle, natch). That's what kept me interested in AT-43

I know. I have a great "bad" Russian commander voice too...
Ironicly, my main wargaming opponent and the guy I will be playing Dust with is deaf...
Hopefully soon...
