I started painting up some Termies and realized my desk is a disaster…. How many of you guys can relate?
Oh and any comments on the Termies are welcome.... I need to finish them but felt the need to justify my mess....

I gave up on keeping my desk clean, seems impossible to be hobby-active and orderly when it comes to me!

I keep the main working area of my hobby table (separate from my computer desk) pretty clear except for what I'm currently working on. I do tend to pile around the edges of the table, though. I have some shelves and drawers within easy reach to keep myself somewhat organized and I just built myself a simple paint rack this weekend to further help with the clutter.

on a side note, I envy your "stuff to build" collection

I keep a painting table in my living room in front of my TV.

its a 3'x5' table. I have a 12"x12" space I keep clear... the rest is stacked with paint, brushes, sprues, and spare parts.

I've forced myself to be all organized and stuff in between painting sessions. I'd take a pic but I'm all stuck in bed after knee surgery.

Still can't believe my wife wont let me paint in bed on a lap tray.....

When I get my desk clean of one army, my templars always seem to retake it over much like yours are doing. I swear it is a never ending cycle unending models needing glueing or painting.

Nah, your desk is still there, you can see bits of it under the models and crap.

My desk, however, is a different story. It houses the desktop, 24" monitor. keyboard tray, hutch, printer(s), scanner(s), desk lamp(s), speakers, document trays and my current projects.
I know it's (the desk) there because my crap isn't all over the floor.

So either my computer's PSU suddenly developed into an anti-gravity machine that holds everything off the floor - or my desk is still there (Occam's razor - the simplest explanation is more likely to be true).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Yeah, my desk gets over run with different projects, when i finish a model i usually store it away to make some room, but i've normally got a couple of projects on the go at once.

Every few months I have to have a clean up though, i'm pretty lucky as i use my cellar as my painting station, with a 4x2 foot desk and storage room its still gets messy.

I'm convinced if i had a huge hall to paint in i'd get it messy.

I can't find MY ROOM.

There is just a pathway from the door to the desk and to my closet. It fills up might fast especially if I'm working on terrain.

No pics as I'm at work but I don't have the space to be messy so I must tidy away after painting or building.

My paints are stored in a GW carry case with foam.
My basing, glue, brushes and other tools are all stored in a small £1 toolbox from PoundLand
When working on a miniature I only have required paints out and in my paint station which allows me to get up and move around the house.

Well organised also means a better working environment and being comfortable too.

After moving house to a place with a much smaller man-cave for my GW footling I have also come to the conclusion that its worth the hour or so to plan and organise your work space. Also investing in a decent bits box means you can clear away 80% of the nonsense that builds up on a heavily used work-space while simultaneously ensuring you don't lose the handy extras you always end up with.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Completely sympathise.

We moved house in Feb. In the last place I had the conservatory to spread out and make a mess of, and it never felt cramped. However we've had to downsize in to something maybe half of the overall footprint of the house. Now everything that I had in a 12' x 8' conservatory is squashed on to and around a 3' x 3' kitchen table.

It's killing me!!!

My painting desk is about 3ftx2ft and my tools and paints take up about 3/4 of that... I sure can relate :( Even if I keep it tidy I have a minimal amount of space to actually work.

That's silly, y'all. If I took that approach I'd just have one cruddy army of Dark Angels that I don't actually love

I have about eight armies and I've never finished one... but as a painter first, I have to say, *building and painting* what I have was the most fun I got out of this hobby. If you can afford it, you should buy what you find cool... Ultimately you can have some fun going back and finishing them off years later (a process I'm sort of getting into as I no longer have space for new armies)

I can definitely relate. My desk, mere weeks after moving into my current place:

Not that bad, right? All of my tools and paints had been set up and I had done a little bit of scratchbuilding work, but things were still conveniently spaced out, and extra room could be cleared when necessary. By now, the density of crap has more than doubled (much more, looking at the picture again, then behind me...) - there are plenty of little spots of table peeking out here and there, but they're nigh impossible to access (nudge something in one spot and something falls off the opposite end of the table!). All that table and the only space clear for work is is the 8.5"x12" cutting mat in the center. A lot of the stuff gets used infrequently enough that I'd rather store it and have more elbow room, but all of my shelves and drawers are already full to brimming. Anyone want to donate to the "oadie needs wall to wall, floor to ceiling shelving" fund? Anybody? Save me enough space to shrink my workbench and I'll let you play on the table I'd finally have room to build.

Years ago, when I entered the hobby I worked nights. After having many a crappy game playing on my friends rectangular kitchen table, I finally decided that I would build my own 6'x4' table for us to game on. However, now I no longer work nights & have a regular gaming day @ my FLGS, but I still have the table. It's where I do all my painting/modelling, etc. I am also lucky enough to have my own room to do it in - however, it fills a good portion of the room & I don't have a good spot to put good shelves to hold my bitz boxes, unfinished projects, unstarted projects, paints, tools, etc. So, I have an entire 6'x4' gaming table that I eke out a couple of square feet to work.

I know exactly how you feel, lol.

I get tons of pine from work... built all my own shelves from scraps I probably have thousands of dollars worth of pine boards stashed away because we throw it away at work.... some is good, some is not but I built my book shelf, shelf over my desk, 4'X4' gaming table, a huge double shelf under our flat screen and currently building two 4'X6' tables.... I didn't buy any of the wood...
