Here's the first of my new 'nid army, loving the modelling aspect so far. Not really a massive gamer so I'm not too fussed about how viable they are in 6th, I'm a painter primarily but love building up legal armies just in case! Love the models, always have, so took the plunge and got a battle force and a few other bits to get me started. At games day this year I plan on buying some Forgeworld reinforcements so we'll see how that goes.

So here's my Hive Tyrant and Lictor, took me a long time to come up with a colour scheme, and even longer to modify it once I'd decided. Hope you like them, more to follow soon, next on the painting table are some hormagaunts and a zoanthrope. Comments welcome, always look to improve.

Cheers

I love the paint scheme ! They look like regular insects for once. The chitin art of the armour is especially well done !

it seems we have a similar taste in colours for our nids I like them a lot you have a smoother style than me (though I admit I tend toward speed as I like to play painting is a nessecary evil). I'll post mine and link to it.here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/462698.page#4532751

Hey there really like the look of yours, I think the only main difference is it looks like you've used a green wash on the skin where I used a Purple one! Overall really like the look of yours, that's an ambitious army project you've got yourself there, wish I painted as quick as you.

Thanks and I wish I had the patience to paint as neatly as you.

I like the look big time, You have clearly spent a time planning and redefining. You came up with a good realistic look. Mine are of the purple variety and i dont think anywhere as Good.,

I call them Hive Fleet Grapist, I have a few posted on my gallery page.

Fantastic stuff really like the scheme. How did you go about doing the skin? If it's too long and boring to explain then no worries!

Makes a change to see someone do models this way with the natural colours really love it!

No problem:

Basecoat of Ushabit Bone, wash with Agrax Earthshade. I then used Nuln Oil to darken the deepest recesses such as joints. Now depending on the model I either do a wetbrush (dont wipe as much off as drybrushing) or layering with Screaming Skull. If it's a bigger monster like the Tyrant I'll layer it on for a smoother finish. Gaunts get wetbrushed in batches. I then give a Druchii Violet wash to the recesses, and any other interesting fold, gill like bits etc as you can see in the picture, this gives a bit of warmth back to the skin too. Touch the purple up withj Screaming Skull again and you're good to go. Hope that helps!

Great job on these! With Tyranids there's always that temptation to rush through, wash and highlight and call it a day, but you've clearly spent time and effort here. Well done.

...also, the colour scheme on your Biel'Tayranids reminds me of something else. Can't think what...

That is the most unexpectedly terrifying tyranid paintjob I've ever seen. Well done!

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."
