Subject: Painted: Khorne Chaos Dreadnought Conversion from Helbrute
|
 |
Ancient Chaos Terminator
|
I began working on a Khorne Chaos Dreadnought conversion this week using the new Dark Vengeance Helbrute model. A few replacement parts, a little sculpting and some custom cutting were all involved in the process. Painting and a scenic base are planned soon. I'll be participating in presenting a clinic on ideas for converting the Helbrute this coming Saturday at the Bowie Battle Bunker if anyone would care to attend. And they still have Limited Edition Dark Vengeance sets for sale at that store for anyone who missed it.

Great looking conversion. The saws look really good as does the head.

Saws look a little plain, and I'm kind of bored of "Stick a juggernaut head on it" conversions.
on the other hand, anything that replaces the godawful Multimelta is good, and you did a nice job replacing the claw (I actually rather like the claw, tbh)
You have some gaps to fill, but overall a nice improvement over the base model

Disagree, I think it looks awesome. I was planning on passing my Hellbrute off to someone, but that conversion (and the change on the multi-melta for sure) have convinced me to keep it for my Khorne army. Now if only I could figure out something to do with the ugly feet and tentacles.

I like it.
Reminds me of the old Khorne vehicle upgrades, which basically consisted of several buzz saws attached to the front end.

this is a good conversion, but only serves to frustrate me even more and reminds me that the hellbrute is an annoying and worthless model to work with (I really don't like the fleshy look). I hope to seven hells that the actual model--when released--is not anything like this hellbrute, but more standardized, closer to dreadnought than a chassis comprised of slabs of metallic flesh.

See, the fleshy look is actually tempting me to paint it up like a dreadnought infected with the obliterator techno virus since I play Iron Warriors.

I'm glad most of you seem to be enjoying this. I also have some very positive comments on this in the Dakkadakka Gallery on the same photo shown above. I'm almost done painting this monster, so more pictures will be posted soon. While working on it at the GW Bowie Battle Bunker a number of customers have approached me about it. Comments included, "that is beyond menacing" to "best Dreadnought ever" so I'm pretty excited to have it finished soon. As for comments on the Helbrute model's "melding of machine and flesh" look, that is what GW's Realm Of Chaos was all about when I started with Warhammer models back in 1989 and it is what got me totally hooked on their Chaos range and imagery. I love it and think it's terrific that GW has returned to those roots with the latest range of Chaos models. Come to Chaos, Chaos is coming!

Very nice. Definitely more menacing compared to the stock model. I think I would have preferred just the melta/saw swap for variety but that is an aesthetic complaint.
Nice work, look forward to seeing it painted.

Well I painted this thing up quick so that Khorne would not be too impatient and take my skull. I might still touch up a few spots here and there, but overall it is done. Here's a link to the picture in my Dakkadakka Gallery. Skulls for the Skull Throne!

Looks great! A little blood on the saws would do it well, I think. I also think making one of the shoulder plates black (like the left knee plate) would break up the red a bit.

So tell me, what did you use the spare plate of horns for? there's an entire section you carved out that's missing: what did you use it for?

Yes, the cowling that goes on the front with the horns on it was mostly unused, though I did clip the side bits from it to complete the left and right front armor panels. The central part with the opening for the face that has the horns on it was saved for a potential later project. It's definitely staying in my bits box for some other cool conversion idea.

Thanks for the interest in this conversion. This model is currently on display at the Games Workshop Bowie Battle Bunker in Maryland. I've upped the highlights a bit and touched up a few missed spots since I took the somewhat rushed photos shown above.
Really looking forward to all the cool new Chaos Marine stuff coming out next month. I'm painting my Dark Vengeance Chosen now.
