Update: Marine 8 done, I thought I'd try a leather look for his robes, something akin to a leather coat, not sure if I pulled it off but it was worth a shot

@Rev. Reiko - Cheers, and noted about the barrel I will change that tonight when I get home, it looks totally odd having the whole thing the same color.

@Lenny - Oh wow, thanks! I wouldn't think it could get used so quickly (I assumed some one might try it in 5-6 months) Totally stoked to have it posted somewhere

@Tipios - cheers, I may try it again on another one in the future. Is there anything you would change about it? (is the highlight so light or not light enough?)

I think the rear of the leather coat looks the best, the sides are too light.

@Tipios - Cheers, Looking at it in natural light I'm slightly agreeing with you, I might give it a wash of devlan mud to see what that might do to it

@Gits - Thanks! I think that if you do a PA Libby you could pull off the robed look (or even a honor guard with robes) that way you could fit it in with your Mantis Warriors.

@Graven - Cheers mate, I'm not sure I get the sweeping dusters comment though (Is this an English saying?)

@CLS - Thank you, Sadly I've seen other painters out there (and on Dakka) and it might be more than a year before I could submit anything to a GD standard

Excellent work as ever. Love the Libby, the pack detail even more so now. All I meant by sweeping dusters was the sense of them wearing full-length dusters like cowboys sweeping past and catching in the wind. Adds great energy and style to the figs.

Update: PA Libby done. Here's the bad new, I don't like him.... He's far to busy, the angle I went with on the legs makes him look off balance. If I were to do it again, less crap on him. Still happy with the color and technique I used.

Looking great mr! I kind of agree with you about the libby; maybe swap the head for a helmed one, that way there's a central uniform colour? Also, lmk if you find yourself needing more bits.

Great group shots!!! did you do a mock up of the lbby before you glued him? He is very nicely painted, but because you mentioned it he does look like he has tripped over:(

@Graven - I would swap the head, however the sod is plastic glued in now and wont move unless I go at it with a blowtorch and jack hammer. I'm actually considering giving this guy away for bits so I can try make another one, reckon some one would like him? If I can get some bits, I'd do a bolt pistol with a force staff in a neutral pose with a helmet (with a scroll between his legs like this one - May need a Justicar leg set though)

@Tipios - Cheers mate, I did do a mock up, however plasticine gave him an awesome pose which I couldn't re-create once all the bits started to glue together that was my curse of trying to add more bits to him.

Update: Quick and dirty face tutorial, however looking through the pictures there is a lot of glare which hides the actual work. Feel free to comment on stages you change or how you would paint a face, I'm always open for suggestions/ideas

First Stage, base face with Tallarn Flesh and give the face a good bath of Ogryn Flesh wash

Second Stage: this is just a strait dwarf flesh layer (plenty of water) focusing on leaving recess with the Ogryn wash showing, areas such as around the eyes, around the veteran marks above the eye brow, bits beside the mouth and little bits on the nose.

Third Stage: this is a 50/50 mix of Dwarf Flesh and Elf Flesh, this stage is aimed at raising the lightness of areas where the sun would hit, so cheek bones, top of the head, bridge of the nose, eye brow region , lips, chin, the aim here is to have the first layer not totally covered up by the new mix.

Fourth Stage: This stage is just pure elf flesh, The aim here is to paint raised edges where the sun would hit it the most. This includes areas such as top of the head, bridge of the nose, eye brows and cheeks.

Fifth Stage: Eyes, teeth and scar were done at this point, using a 000 brush I did the teeth first then the eyes. Using a 00 brush added purple wash to the scar above the eye and a 000 brush for the pupil of the eye.

The next face I do i'll try take better pic's.

See I hate painting heads, and I actually really dislike the whole, "I am sergeant, I laugh in the face of danger, I have no need of helmet!" so I'm mixing a few into each unit. So, as I say, really appreciate this tutorial

@LDP - I think i'm going to enter the Paladin in single model, the bionic's squad for the squad choice and the ven dread as the vehicle one. I'm surprised I haven't bumped into you at the GW in silvia park to be honest.

@Tipios - feel free to post your results if you end up following it (on here is fine heh)

@Miss Dee - Fair call, before I learned how to paint faces I was doing all helmeted (which helped when all the old OOP metal GK's had helmets)

@Graven - You're going to love the next tac squad I'm making, none of them have helmets.. faces galore!

Nice job on the faces Knightley. One thing that you've left out though are the service studs on a few of the heads. They're the ones on the side temples that look like the marines have a bad case of acne. According to the fluff it's suppose to be given for years of service. I almost filed off the ones from my first few heads when I first started painting thinking that they were just flashing
